KP saying he'd seriously consider playing international cricket for SA pretty much when eligible in 2018, what a dick.

Its never going to happen but he only wants to play cricket at the highest possible level, absolutely nothing wrong with that. Would love to watch him score a hundred against England.

Very sad news about James Taylor, just when he had broke in to the England team as well. Probably one of the finest one day batsman this country has produced, his domestic record is outstanding.

Horrid stuff about Titch. Obviously a superb player and this one stings even more with him being a Notts player but over all that he is a lovely bloke, as nice as any pro sportsman you'll ever meet.

Devastated for Titch :(

Seems a really good bloke. You can tell on Twitter the type of man he is based on how he's reacted to this news. I am thankful that this is how he found out.

Shocking story about James Taylor, at least it was found out before disaster happened. Hope he excels in whatever career path he chooses next, involved in cricket or not.

Feel really awful for Taylor, the one positive though is that he will always have a career in cricket and we didn't end up in the Muamba situation.

Things could have been a lot worse.. will he go for some sort of training role with Notts now?

Think he'll want to have a long period of recovery but yeah he might do something like that

How are we thinking the test side will line up now with Taylor out of the reckoning?

Presuming Hales is going to be given another go (which he should, given he hasn't had a home series yet), then my team for the first test against SL would be...

Cook
Hales
Compton
Root
Bell
Bairstow
Stokes
Ali
Anderson
Broad
Finn

I was thinking Jos Buttler instead of Bell, as it might be viewed as a 'backwards step' but he's got off to a good start in county cricket and he's still got some left to give.

I'd be changing bairstow for buttler and bell for Hildreth personally but I think your team is probably correct.

Bairstow's done well since he's came back into the side, I think he'll keep his place be it with the gloves or not. Buttler's in fantastic form with the bat, he hit another cameo knock today in the IPL. I hope it's not long before he's in the test side again.

We're really going to miss Taylor, such an exciting young player.

Can only really echo what's already been said about Taylor. Terrible loss for English cricket and a huge shame for him personally after being so patient and working hard to get another chance.

As for the test team for this summer I think it'd be highly unfair to drop Bairstow given his form last time out and Buttler's struggles with the red ball.

It might be worth giving Buttler a go in place of Taylor, but form in limited overs doesn't necessarily mean he'll perform in tests. He's never really looked as comfortable playing the more patient innings required at test level, and I can't help but wonder if England's decision to send him to the IPL rather than back to Lancashire for 4 day cricket tells you how Bayliss and Strauss see his role for England, ie a one day specialist.

Would it be too attacking to drop Compton and play Bell at 3, keep both Buttler and Bairstow in the side? You would only need 1 or 2 of them to come off and we would be scoring 500 a day!

I would like to see both Bairstow and Buttler in the side so that could work. If we were looking for something more left field and with a eye on life post Bell, how about this?
Cook
Lees
Hales
Root
Bairstow
Buttler
Stokes

And let's face it, Bairstow's keeping has an awful lot of room for improvement...

Bairstow has passed the double ton mark, he's just cementing his place. On Buttler are England willing to move past their standards that they held with Morgan in regards to the IPL, Buttler is playing T20 cricket rather than getting 4 championship games under his belt. Bell I feel should come back in for this summer ONLY, it will give England a chance to properly evaluate potential candidates for the winter tours of Bangladesh, India and West Indies. If someone has a great start then maybe bring them in for the second summer series but the first one is looming and Bell is a known quality.

1) Cook
2) Hales (Give him a chance in England before writing him off)
3) Compton (Same as Hales)
4) Root
5) Bell
6) Bairstow
7) Stokes
8) Rashid/Ali (If Rashid has a good start I'd rather see him play, more of a wicket taking threat than Ali, and not much worse with the bat)
9) Finn (Just seen Wood has had another setback)
10) Broad
11) Anderson

Other interesting topic, every player being forced to wear the new style helmets, Cook didn't in his first innings, did in his second after being warned and was out after 5 balls, some players are saying the new helmets cause players to lose sight of the ball for a split second. Should players be allowed the choice of which helmet they wear and is the fact the players lose sight of the ball for a split second potentially just as dangerous as they can't track it the entire way?

Rob Key retires.

Great career skip, won't be the same at Kent.

How do you pick this test side?!

Lyth, Robson, Bairstow, Bell, Vince all scoring big runs. Vince scoring a hundred against the best attack in England in front of the national selector won't do him any harm!!

Was going to say Vince putting his hand up for selection, Bairstow's got his place in the test side already.

I'd love Vince to get a go

Same, could easily be a fixture in all 3 formats too, lad has a lot of potential.

Reminds me a bit of the James Taylor situation, taking ages to pick him

I bloody wouldn't, he's the only player we've got that can play 4 day cricket. Take him out of our side for the summer and relegation will be certain instead of merely probable.
