Deserved win really. Although the thought of NZ beating AUS in the final at the MCG was a great one, there was only going to be one winner. AUS have been the best side at the tournament.

Starc wins player of the tournament, can't argue with that really. My personal choice would have been Sangakkara but Sri Lanka didn't go far enough.

The Aussies have announced their test squad to tour England for the Ashes this summer.

Clarke (C), Warner, Smith, Watson, Rogers, S Marsh, M Marsh, Haddin, Nevill, Voges, Siddle, Johnson, Starc, Hazelwood, Lyon, Ahmed, Harris.

Am I missing a few? That squad feels like it should have more names?

I think we usually only have 15/16 - tends to be more coaches and support staff!

I'm pretty sure they will include Pattinson there. They would have if not for the injury in the Shield final. But I'm pretty fucking sure he will be in the squad by the real matches begin.

I think now is the correct time to say....BRING ON TEST CRICKET. 2 weeks today exactly until the first test starts at 2pm. Should be a reasonable amount of play too with the Windies being at home. Thunderstorms aside, they don't get that much rain at this time of the year.

Secured a comp ticket for the Friday of the Edgbaston Ashes test last week too.

So, 4 day Test Cricket?

I say, fuck off.

Why? There's no harm in experimenting with it, I don't buy the its 'traditional' argument. Cricket has come on leaps and bounds since we've broke away from the traditional with T20 cricket, you've only got to look at the World Cup so see the impact its had on the other formats. It might work, it might not, but I'm up for giving anything ago could help the game grow.

The proposal is 15 overs extra each day, with every Test ground having floodlights meaning there will never be play stopped for bad light. Every match playing on a Thursday-Sunday, its at least worth a try.

And it's not like test matches have always been 5 days anyway, that's a relatively recent thing. There is undoubtedly too many days of international cricket, so this could be a good start.

What do you mean by 'international' cricket? There's too many ODI's and not enough test cricket in my opinion, nowhere near. I'd bin the 50 over game tommorrow. Test cricketers get about 6 months of the year off. The only good suggestion is giving all test grounds proper lighting systems so that we NEVER go off for bad light and only rain ends play.

Just found out Chris Gayle has signed for Somerset in the T20, can't wait to see him play as Taunton is only 25 miles from me.Watching Gayle smash bowlers all over the ground while drinking Thatchers Gold is perfect especially if i get tickets for a sunday game.

The convicts have already selected five pace bowlers plus Mitchell Marsh, so I doubt they will add more in that department unless there are injuries to those initially selected.

Our spinning options are very limited at the moment. The ecb could do worse than trying to poach George dockrell from Ireland though.

I'm disappointed with the selection of Tredwell who has never really done enough in four day cricket to indicate he is ready to be a test match bowler.

In terms of future options I would have liked to have seen Adam Riley, or possibly Ravi Patel, selected ahead of Tredwell for this tour. I feel England have missed a trick here.

This comes from a friend of mine, who is working for the NSW team. CA didn't include him for World Cup just for the Ashes.

What are peoples thoughts on Jonathan Trott returning to the England test line-up? Opened with Cook in a practice game today and did alright (the target was only 59!). Should he return to his preferred No. 3 role or becomes Cooks' new opening partner?

I believe he would make a good partner with Cook as I feel he benefits batting with a player of experience. I also think dropping Ballance would be harsh given his successful summer.

Ah, a new test series and already there's a lot of shit thrown towards Cook! I swear simple minded people that don't understand the difference between ODI and tests dominate opinions, Cook is by far our best test batsman, closely followed by Root. I think everyone on here knows I'm not Cooks biggest fan but ffs it's within reason, just because he shouldn't have been in the ODI side it doesn't mean anything about the test side.

Keep Ballance in. I'm happy for Trott but still pissed there's no Taylor.

Putting Trott to open seems like a solution that solves a number of potential issues. We've been struggling for a while to find a partner for Cook, and I think Trott is more than capable of doing the job [assuming he's gotten over his demons]. This way, we're also able to accommodate Trott and Ballance, both of whom I think add something to the side.

I certainly can't think of a better top order than Cook, Trott and Balance at 3 given the options available.

Oh and James Taylor has been shafted. What does that boy have to do to get in the test side?

Great that cricket season is just about to return, England need to bounce back in a big way and good to see Trott back in fold. Cook will hopefully be back on form after a lengthy break which he needed after a tough year or so !

Not a lot of tempo there . I think we need a bit more balance within the top three although all 3 are fine players. Perhaps move root to open or give Lyth an extended crack at opening .
