Think we deserve relegation from Kitchen Sink level for failing to land Alfie May

You are in that tier due to business in january and the absolutely massive wages you paid to entice the players to sign.

Top tip is to not say stuff like that, it can really unexpectedly come back to haunt you down the line.

Well that's why I said hopefully.

But still, I'm not having Grimsby fans of all people casting shade about being in the National League.

What’s the view on LW at Swindon? I wasn’t exactly enthused by his appointment with his record at your place but a lot of time has passed since then and he’s done an astonishing job all told. Hopefully be here for a while but wouldn’t be surprised to see him go on and manage at a much higher level than this in the future.
Swindon is where managerial reputations go to die so I wouldn't bother about it too much

You do realise yourselves and Wrexham aren't playing Dover and Maidstone at home every week now, don't you?
Indeed. Very witty SoC

But have you seen the players Wrexham have on their books and the level at which they were playing before they signed them?

It's a league one level team

I do think they'll be right up there. Didn't see a better striker at this level than Mullin all last season.

Only thing I can offer up is that last season they were used to just buying players outside transfer windows and that obviously has to change (Up until last year Wrexham were always constrained by it tbf but it will have helped last season for sure- they did right to get that overturned it wasn't fair at all and gave us an advantage in 21/22 in my opinion).

Was merely reporting the facts. 3.5 seasons per promotion puts us right up in second place behind Bristol Rovers in terms of BELT promotions from the NL vs time spent down there.

Yep, I'm pretty well versed in Wrexham and I'm sticking to my much repeated stance (until they do some business) that they'll be up there but there won't be a steamrollering of the division. I think there'll be some Wrexham/Notts fans unpleasantly surprised by how much of a turgid slog this division is. Far less football is played up here on account of the 55 minutes per match of players going down with fake head injuries. You can kiss goodbye to 35 shots and being on the ball for anything like 30 minutes per match, those are monthly stats in this division.

Having said that a few more fourth tier galactico signings for the new sensibly ran Notts and it'll be you lot that we're having this debate about as well.

I don't think anyone sensible would expect us to dominate the division. We have to be aiming for top three but it won't be easy- it wasn't easy last year- we have massive targets on our back given all the media hype. However, if we finish outside the play offs you'd have to say the season would go down as a failure.

I feel like our brand of football is more likely to work in L2 than Notts (we are happy scrapping out a turgid slog) , if they maintain their high line approach- unless they massively improve their defence. The game at our place showed the difficulties it caused them, in fact it could have been a lot worse for them in the first half if the officials hadn't got every offside call wrong. How the two of us do is one of the interesting question marks over this seasons L2.

It's easy to forget after a few years in NL but L2 is a slog, physically demanding and at the top end some pretty decent teams and players. I'm not expecting to breeze through, without a strengthening in defence we'll concede too many and not out score enough teams to get the points.

Well, at the moment its easy to detect a mainly friendly undercurrent of rivalry.

I can see open warfare breaking out once the season starts.

Luvverly!

It was only 5 years ago Notts got relegated with a team that was ‘too good to go down’. There’s good reasons why that team went down and reasons to believe the one we’ve got now is much better, but any fan thinking we’re guaranteed success are obviously wildly delusional or recklessly optimistic.

For starters we spent all of last season playing teams whose sole tactic was ‘let them have the ball, stick 10 men on the edge of the 6 yard box and pray something good happens’. I presume the majority of teams will have a go at us this season, which will either play right into our hands orrrr expose our frailties.

Obviously, defences are better drilled. Opposing managers generally know how to set up. Any mistakes are more likely to be punished.. Let’s not kid ourselves, it’s still pretty shite but not as shite as the NL. Even the teams that turn out to be shit have a player or 2 that can hurt teams.

And six years since we made the play-offs with a team that was absolute dogshit apart from a couple of Forest loanees. Football is weird.

Quite rare that that happens in this league, although we did exactly that against Stockport away last season when we were desperate for points.

Think teams having a go might surprise Wrexham more than yourselves though, bit of a wobbly defence when put under pressure from what I saw last season (although they most definitely will improve in the area before the new season).

Welcome back Raven btw

Notts County getting pushed, shoved and bullied around by Oxford United for that Rodrigues guy. A free transfer aswell.

Do they still belong in here?

Heard that McGoldrick stipulated two things in his deal. An office with a massive desk and Rodrigues out the club.

Never deserved a place in the kitchen sink anyway

Surprised he's gone to Oxford as I would have thought he'd have better options e.g. Derby

I think it makes sense, they play a similar style to us and he’ll probably go straight in as a regular which wouldn’t necessarily be the case at some of the other clubs linked. Probably not a huge pay rise from what we were offering him but suspect he figures he’s at the age where he needs to test himself at a higher level, which is fair enough really.

The kitchen sink is like quicksand. The harder you fight the deeper you get.

The reaction by some Notts County and Gillingham fans makes it obvious they are deserving to be in the kitchen sink category. It’s time to embrace it guys.

He'd duped them all season by talk of returning to Portugal yet he winds up at Oxford.

Shocker not getting a fee from him, but it’s all part of the benefits working at the dream factory.

I mean deciding not to get a fee for him last summer turned out okay in the end.

Yep very surprising that we're faced with the prospect of Wrexham and Bradford being the first ones to be downgraded. Say what you will about them but they know what they are.

After his diabolical performances in the play off games i’m surprised it’s not Oxford City.
