Most shocking news for us is that Barrow away is NOT on a Tuesday night. :ohm:

It’s on a Friday night instead.

You set off on a Saturday in September for your game at Barrow, but when you get there it's a Tuesday night in November.

It's always a Tuesday night in November in Barrow. Grey and drizzling.

Yeah, but why is it a concern that they are reporting a day earlier?

Casey

Comments seem to suggest it’s a cheeky way to extend your filing deadline because you get a grace period of 3 months when the reporting date changes. Either because of imminent administration or trying to prevent some information being revealed just yet.

Or just because they aren’t ready yet and it’s better than getting a companies house fine

Sorry, everybody else has already discussed this, and don't know how to delete my reply.

I think we are quietly 'Going For It', just need a top class Goalkeeper and we'll be set for a push for promotion.

Not sure why we're still third favourites for promotion. McGoldrick looks a good signing but does Aiden Stone, Dan Crowley and Will Randall scream going for it? I'd genuinely never heard of any of them after four years in non league and although I'm hopeful we'll do better than a relegation scrap there looks to be plenty of teams better placed for a promotion push at longer odds.

What’s your realistic aim this season? try and get top half?
I think the Play-Offs or 3rd is our aim, we finished in the top half last season (11th) on our return, most of the team that got us back have now left and we seem to be recruiting pretty well. Pace and movement in our forward line is what we missed last season, that seems to have been rectified.

Not seeing the massive improvement in Grimsby so far - Vernam looks like the only stand-out signing, and is he better than McAtee? The others just look like the same old one-year contract fodder that does the rounds in this division.

Agree regarding Grimsby.

With our current squad I’d like to think we’d just about scrape play-offs.

They’ll be plenty of comings and goings for both clubs, but our squad is significantly better than Grimsby’s (on paper) right now.

We're still 3 players short I think;- a small but nippy forward, a centre half and a left back. Very happy with our transfer business so far though. I'd expect a couple of loans to come in 1 from sheff utd (we always seam to get players from them) and another from Chelsea/Newcastle/Manchester United/City... one of our last friendlies in against Newcastle U21's so possibly from them.

I’d say the same for us - the playoffs are a minimum this time round. The main area we needed to strengthen was defence which had been done.

Given we were top scorers in the division last season and have one of the top midfields in the league there’s certainly some expectation out there.

Of course it isn’t so simple, nor will it be.

We got top half last season with about half a week's worth of pre-season and a ridiculous FA Cup run disrupting the flow of the season so kicking on from there and getting a playoff spot is the aim.

We don't need to improve massively to be in with a shout of a playoff push though.

Rodgers and Mullarkey look like great signings. Vernam is a different type of player to McAtee too. I absolutely fucking love McAtee but he's quite a complex player that you really need to build your team around. Shoehorning him in last season hamstrung us to a certain degree. If you want to directly compare them though, there's no doubting McAtee is the more talented player of the two but Vernam should slot in easier and cause less selection headaches for Hurst. I'm happy for Danny Rose to keep on doing his usual same old round with us too, as it means we'll end up in the top 7. Plenty of people shitting on that signing but he's a nuisance at this level.

We've only handed out one one year deal by the way.

Of course your squad is better on paper than ours, it's probably about three times more expensive.

We've had a better window than you so far though, so that gap has currently closed at least temporarily. The pluses in our column are that we've got a better manager at this level than you and from what I've seen you're more of a collection of individuals than us, there seems to be a bit more cohesion to our recruitment and a stronger togetherness from top to bottom.
Got to admire your optimism.
Let's face it, the standard last season was pish. Even with every other club Going For It™ this coming season the general narrative is still going to be that most clubs are going to try and not lose most matches. Enough of the sides chucking money at it will bomb, ensuring that the sides that have a bit of continuity and are steadily improving will be in with a chance. If we keep Hurst I'm very confident we'll be going up in the next 3 seasons and I don't really see any reason why we can't challenge the top 7 this season.

As always with this league over 3/4s are going to want atleast play offa, which is going to leave alot disappointed clubs. As with last season with Carilsle and Syevenage going up, it shows budgets and fan bases only get you so far in this league, its a real lottery, team spirit, momentum and abit of luck is what you need.

Unless you're relegation fodder like Crawley or Colchester, I'd say fans of any League Two club would consider the play-offs a reasonable shout. Bear in mind nearly a third of the league ends up either going up or in the play-offs - a lot of teams have a lot of dreams.

The only thing we know for sure is that Mansfield will manage to knacker it up yet again.

Don't know clubs at this level well enough. I'm going to need comparisons with Conference tinpotters.

Who are the Bromley and Borehamwoods of the league?

In the sense that they're always towards the top but never good enough to go the final yards?

It's got to be Mansfield.

Don’t know the non league tinpotters enough to know what Bromley and Borehamwood are.
You'll be 1-0 up against Bromley for 85 minutes of them kicking the living shit out of your midfield and then they'll equalise on 88 minutes before Michael Cheek scores a penalty in injury time and their entire squad including backroom staff and women working in the ticket office will run onto the pitch and celebrate in front of you.

Borehamwood will simply get into the playoff spots by beating everyone 0-0 but then will drop out of them by losing to everyone 0-0.

Richard O'Donnell off to Blackpool. What a move. Good wages and he'll never play.

It depends in context.

If you’re talking about having no fans and wondering how they’re there it would be salford (though you do know why they’re there!)

In fairness Bromley actually get decent gates these days, nowhere near the one man and his dog that go to watch B Wood or Maidenhead.

Tbh they’re conference clubs in some southern location that i wouldn’t of heard of anyway, so utterly clueless.

Bromley could be in narnia for all i know.

Yep saw this too. Wonder if we were linked to the wrong ex-Dale keeper as it seems like Jale Eastwood is being touted as nailed on now. Him and Harvey Cartwright spotted at the training ground so if that's true, I'd expect them both to be signing this week.
