Bought myself the Subspecies trilogy boxset when I was in town the other day. They're those so bad they're good type films.

Finishing up Frontiers .
Good film, nice and gory too. I've only seen a handful of French horror flicks and this is up there with the best. (Switchblade Romance reigns supreme.) 7.5/10.

Martyrs is next on the agenda, cracking film too.

Good choice Cas.

Also enjoyed the films Gilly? mentioned, albeit uncomfortable to watch.

This is true, we need a quiz!

Anyway, just finished with Switchblade Romance. Absolutely love this film, it's brutal, has loads of suspense and the score is ace. The ending is a let down, but it doesn't bother me anymore. Great piece of work by Aja. 9/10.

Without a doubt, it's ace. In my top three I reckon, it's all in French but there isn't a lot of dialogue. Everything about it is right, the tension that Aja builds is superb. I thought when it came out he'd be the next big thing in horror but it's not really panned out that way, he's directed some tripe since.

The best thing about it is that it drifts away from the general slasher formula, there's nothing amusing or campy about it. Just brutal. Watch it now please. :)

Doing a shoutbox horror quiz on Sunday. Get revising. Gonna be a 70s and 80s themed one. No modern shite.

Sinister 2 is getting an absolute pasting in the reviews. IGN gave it 1/10. It currently has 6% on Rotten Tomatoes.

A real shame that as I love the original. I've only just realised by reading the reviews that the main character is the bumbling "Deputy So and So" from the first movie. I mean.........how did they think that would possibly work?!!!

Currently watching Reanimator, it's utterly daft but it's ace, completely forgot how good it was. It's dated quite poorly, I'm surprised it hasn't been remade yet.

Gradually working my way through 'The Strain', 13 part series directed by Guillermo del Torro. Rather good for something that is usually executed quite poorly, characters are actually half decent as well.

Finished season 1 over the past three nights. Enjoyed it quite a bit, gonna start season 2 now. Reading a third season has been given the go ahead too.

Watched Hypothermia (2010) last night too, cheap lake monster film with Michael Rooker, terrible. Got about half a dozen others of the same ilk on my planner all recorded on THC, doubt any of them will be any better.

Sinister 2 is absolutely awful. I can't believe how poor it is. The first was a decent modern horror full of tension and dread. This is almost a parody.

Basically, without spoiling anything, the Deputy so and so is the lead character but he can't lead a film to save his life. He has a look of permanent confusion on his face throughout the film, delivers every line awkwardly and there are some terrible drunk scenes where the whole cinema laughed out of embarassment. He actually thinking about it, doesn't even get given a name during the film.

There are no scares in this film. The jump scares are so obvious a mile off. They make the big mistake of showing Baghul too often. Basically, it's rubbish. As a plot, it fills in a few holes from the first film and I suppose it shows you the story from another angle but the execution is appalling.

The one enjoyable thing about the movie was that the two boys are excellent. Both of them do their absolute best with the carnage they're given and they're the only two believable characters in the entire thing.

2/10 - a point for the acting performance of each kid.

Was it worse than Annabelle?

I'd say they're both as bad as each other. Honestly, I never really laugh at horror films but the acting of James Ransone in this was so so bad. I can honestly say that I didn't jump once. Even the jump scares were poorly done and completely obvious. The only purpose the film served was to give more details on the mythology. Nothing else advanced at all. Annabelle at least had a couple of tense scenes, especially the one in the basement where the elevator won't go up.

I've still not seen Switchblade Romance, Gilly.

I get my first wage this Friday. Might just buy lots of horror stuff.

Oh dear, I'll probably give it a go just because I've seen the first one. I'd imagine all the best scares were in the trailer?

Pretty much. The best scare is when he shines the flashlight and the children's shadows appear then disappear, but I think everyone in the cinema remembered that from the trailer.

It's worth watching just to see what happens to be honest. It's watchable because of the familiarity and some laughs. But yeah, don't expect a 'horror' film.

I was going to watch The Midnight Meat Train again, I remember enjoying it a fair bit last time. Vinny Jones is a cracking villain. Netflix was being a bellend so I opted for an Auschwitz documentary.
