Absolute Power (1997)
A cast of Clint Eastwood,Gene Hackman and Ed Harris in a political thriller sounds good doesn't it but it was poorly done and predictable, can't believe i stayed with it until the end :ffs: 4/10.
Yeah that was a poor film despite the leads and Gene Hackman always being an excellent bastard.

The Omen (1976)
I saw the remake of 2006 before so no big surprises. A nice anti-Christ theme based film (the best probably), I just think they could’ve focused more on the child so the public could develop a "stronger" pity or repulsion relation with the character or even it mixed to create a mysterious vibe of him really being or not the son of the devil. 8.9/10.

Sleepy Hollow (1999)
Good movie but Johnny Depp was the icing in the cake. Genial guy. An unimaginable and unique interpretation to a character like Ichabod Crane, such a hanging performance is one of the main reasons to keep the viewers, in a whole everything else was also well done. 8/10.

The Sixth Sense (1999)
Incredibly, it was the first time I watched this movie. Someone spoiled me the end before though and of course I would prefer to have the surprise of this plot twist while watching but still could enjoy it a lot. 8.8/10.

I've heard about the ending so many times I haven't even bothered watching The Sixth Sense.

Never knew about the ending when I watched it, but you saw it coming a mile off. Terrible terrible director.

The original Omen is a brilliant film and would've been terrifying to watch (like The Exorcist) when it first came out.

Totally agree. How anyone was surprised by the Sixth Sense ending is beyond me. I'd have it up there as one of the most overrated films of all time (sounds like a thread idea).

Spotlight: Boston Globe journalists investigate a cover-up of sexual abuse within the Roman Catholic Church.

Good film. Felt a bit like an extended episode of Cold Case, but not shit and that. 8/10

Overrated and dull except for one battle scene that lasted 5 minutes. 5/10.

I can't say if I'd realize or not The Sixth Sense's end while watching if I didn't know it before but yeah, the big hints all over the movie make it very clear. Anyway even without the surprising thing I still think it's quite appreciable for the theme it covers. Not really able to scare or maybe surprise but as much as is a very light movie I do think it was well developed.

I watched The Sixth Sense in school and then spent lesson after lesson going over the whole film. I liked it, but school has made me hate it.

Last film I saw

Star Wars:
I loved the film. Right amount of touching on the originals, whilst also having its own storyline. Fight scenes, graphics etc were really good. I would recommend the film to anyone, even if you have never seen it before. I watched it in the iMax, it was worth the money and the wait. Plus, Rey is fit.

I have a groupon voucher, so I can see 3 films for £12. I am thinking The Revenant has to be one of them. Then probably Joy and Creed. Only lasts until end of Feb, but not sure what is due out that I would want to see.

Good movie and the directing is superb. Tom Hardy stole the show for me.

Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
Watched last night.

The Mouse that Roared.

I don't know whether I really liked it or not, tough to say. The concept, the idea is quality and made me want to really like the film, it follows the smallest Country in the world deciding to declare war on the United States because it knows when you lose a war against the US they suddenly invest money and infrastructure into that country which is much needed.

so they send an invasion force Army of 20 men, who stop the local bus and head over by boat to invade (in some ridiculous medevil gear) the idea being when the boat pulls up at New York they surrender at passport control.

of course the first person to receive the declaration of war ignores it so the US doesn't know they are at war and the invasion force lands at New York during a Nuclear Bomb trial so the city is deserted.........numerous things happen to lead them to suddenly win the war.....at which point all good plans go to pot.

it sort've has my admiration for the plot, the idea is great, it works in some places very very well, but then also think it could easily have been an out and out classic, but misses the boat.

The Revenant.

It was long and boring (mainly because there's about 5 minutes of dialogue) but I wasn't bored if that makes sense. Hardy was superb, LDC was good too albeit nothing extraordinary. I doubt I'll ever watch it again though and the plot seems a bit meh given the original story, which was much more gripping when I read it on Wikipedia than watching Leo fight the odds on the big screen.

I guarantee Carel will fucking hate it.

All Or Nothing (2002)

Mike Leigh film about three families living on a council estate in south london. The themes are familar underemployment & unemployment, alcoholism, isolation, teen pregnancy and the inevitable loss of self-esteem and despair. It stars Timothy Spall, Lesley Manville & a young James Corden all giving outstanding performances especially Spall.

I can relate to all the characters and have experienced people like this first hand. its definitely not a happy film but I enjoy these type of films If you have seen Nil By Mouth I reccomend this highly.

Quote by Timothy Spall sums the feeling of this film up totally

"We're all born alone. We die alone. There's nothing we can do about it"

Yeah it is an interesting and funny idea but they don't quite pull it off even with Sellers being brilliant as always.

I felt the same way. Hardy is the one who needs to get an Oscar from that movie, he was excellent.

Maniac Cop 3: Badge of Silence (1993)

The least maniacal entry in the series but it does feature two classic horror sequel staples - voodoo and the search for a bride.

Selma (2014)
Absolutely fantastic. Focuses on Martin Luther King's activities in Selma, Alabama in 1965 which leads to the Selma to Montgomery march. With goings on in DC and elsewhere during the civil rights movement in the background. David Oyelowo is superb as King, as are the rest of the cast in their respective roles, by far one of the best civil rights films I've ever seen. 10/10

Diablo (2015)
Clint's boy Scott makes his western debut in this story of civil war veteran on the trail of a band of Mexicans who've kidnapped his missus.
At least that's what they want you to think. Really it's Fight Club western style, Eastwood is actually the schizophrenic antagonist in this tale trying to reclaim his prize.
It's not great, but it's different and you can certainly see why Eastwood Jnr chose this one to finally appear in his father's shadow. 7/10

"Room"
A film about a woman who has been kept in a garden shed for 7 years. She had a son during this time and he is 5 by the time the film starts. It's a pretty good film, first hour is really tense and the young boys acting is really good. I had a few problems along the way -

Almost Famous

One of my favourites. A young journalist follows a 70's rock band on tour. The movie was actually written based on director Crowe's experiences writing for the Rolling Stone magazine, following the likes of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Led Zep and the Allman Brothers, and so the movie is kind of a coming-of-age biopic. The soundtrack is, as you'd expect, brilliant, the cast is good and the main character is relatable. Bonus marks for Kate Hudson. 9/10.

The Prestige - 10/10

Have always said that this and Gladiator are my two favourite films. But I hadn't watched it in five years and forgot just how great it is.

Nolan's best work, imo.
