Watched a couple of films in the last week.

Space Jam

A fun family film if you're not looking to watch anything serious. Very cartoony. I'm a big fan of the NBA and I love Michael Jordan.

6/10

Skiptrace

I can definitely see why its got some negative reviews. At times the acting was very cheesy but I loved Jackie Chan's role in the movie and he did a good job at it. Fight scenes were good too.

7.5/10

Toy Story

A classic. Not much to say. 1 point docked for outdated CGI but it was a new attempt at the time so it barely affects the movie.

A fine post, but you accidentally put a 6 and a 9 where those 10's should be. No biggie, just thought I'd point it out.

I watched Sausage Party last night. Unfortunately one of those films where most of what is great about it is given away in the trailer, but still a fun enough film regardless.

Fantastic 4 (2015). Bloody awful. Really boring, lacking any sort of humour. The actual action and fight scenes were terrible. Not a patch on the 2005 version. I thought it was too soon to be doing a remake but gave it a chance. I wish I didn't..

Hearing people say that sort of thing in particular is the reason that I've not even come close to being interested in seeing that film. "Not a patch on the 2005 version" is a pretty scary prospect.

Why did you quote my post?

Because I'm in love with you and just wanted to see your face.

(Actually, it's because I was going to respond to that in the relevant thread but then other people answered it and I forgot to remove it from the quotes thing  But whatever)

Actually, on that topic, I've had the odd thing saying I've been quoted in random threads which I've never even been in recently, when it's actually quoting somebody else. I know that this is hardly the time nor thread to bring this up, but I demand that the admin team fix this IMMEDIATELY. Thanks.

In between the two, depending on what you mean by "mature"
A horror film or something that deals with adult themes, or has strong graphic violence or of a sexual nature. I'd already seen films like The Exorcist, The Thing, Hellraiser, Mad Max and Nightmare on Elm Street when I was a bairn and just wondered if you have seem similar films or stick to the more family friendly stuff. Just wondering.

Star Wars The Phantom Menace

8/10

I know the phantom menace is considered the worst of the Star Wars film but from a star wars point of view I can't comment on it as I haven't seen the others in a very long time.

MI5 Rogue Nation (2015)

Storming fun with good action set pieces from start to finish, with a lot of Hitchcock references throughout. It gets marked down a point due to Tom Cruise wrecking a BMW M3 and the plot is pretty bog standard, but other than that it was near perfect for what it is.

Fucking yes, bang on. Episode 1 is nowhere near as bad as people say it's it's good to see somebody besides myself actually saying this.

On this topic, I was discussing how I'd rank the SW films the other day with somebody, now that Episode 7 has had proper time to digest. And I think my list would piss off most fan boys, as I go, in order:

The awesome 10/10 ones:
New Hope
Force Awakens
Empire

The brilliant 9/10 ones:
Revenge of the Sith
Return of the Jedi
Phantom Menace

The ok Messi 6/10 one:
Attack of the Clones

Attack Of The Clones is by far the worst, and 6/10 Messi, is being far too kind to it. its more like a 2.

Red Dragon (2002)
Hadn't seen this before but after10 minutes i realised it was the same as Manhunter (1986) which was far superior in every way. Red Dragon wasn't bad but like i said for me it doesn't compare to a classic. 6.5/10.

There's a lot of shit in there (Sand. Nuff said.) and the last hour is a brain numbing hour of CGI action that just feels like shit, but last time I watched it I didn't actually think it was quite as bad as I remembered it being. But yeah, it's a heck of a lot worse than every single one of the rest of them.

Aye it's not bad, but you are right it's no Manhunter which is imo the best film about chasing serial killers ever made even if it does look a lot like a Miami Vice episode (both were made by the same person in fairness).

I saw X-men: Apocalypse yesterday.

It was ok, I thought. Not First Class/X-2 quality, but I think I probably actually enjoyed it about as much as DoFP if anything.

The whole Magneto thing felt forced as hell though. Shit shoehorned in subplot just to try to give him reason to want to be a prick. As soon as his daughter showed up on screen, you knew she was a goner to fuel Magnetos reasoning for siding with Apocalypse (seeing as the trailers already did a great job of giving that away). I don't know if that's how it happened in the comics or whatever as I've not read any Apocalypse stuff, but even if it was, it was shit in the film universe.

Matthew McConaughey plays Confederate deserter Newton Knight who leads a band of fellow deserters and runaway slaves in an armed uprising against the Confederate army in Mississippi during the civil war. It's an interesting story and quite an entertaining film but 2 and a half hours was never going to do the source material justice. Would have worked a lot better as a mini series. 6/10
