The Shallows (2016)

A mere 200 yards from shore, surfer Nancy is attacked by a great white shark, with her short journey to safety becoming the ultimate contest of wills.

Much better than i was expecting.

Predestination [2014]

Mind fuck-up film about a time traveller trying to stop a mad bomber who seems to flirt in and out of different times themselves; but all is not what it seems.

Interesting ideas if a bit far fetched, and it always had me wondering throughout about the characters and how plausible some of it was. Not perfect, but not too bad.

8/10

Guardians Of The Galaxy [2014]

I wouldn't normally watch this, but it got recommended to me by a friend [yep even I have friends ;) ]. Good set pieces, some decent one-liners and the wee raccoon thing was quite funny. Bog standard Marvel shite for the rest however, and when will that Stan fucking Lee piss off.

7/10

The Awful Truth [1937]

This is more like it for me, a bit of Cary Grant. He stars with Irene Dunne about a married couple who want a divorce, but who go out of their way to muck things up for each other when they start seeing other people.

Sharp, funny, superb timing and Grant at his best, whats not to like.

9/10

Jaws [1975]

Seen it a hundred times, but caught the last hour while flicking through last night. As perfect a blockbuster as it gets, and even with a rubber shark that didn't work, is still far more entertaining than those endless superhero crap films Hollywood churns out these days.

Average film starring Mark Wahlberg and Danny Glover. This could have been a part of The Bourne series of films as the plot was the same. 5/10.

I really liked that and how it didn't take itself too seriously. Enjoyable.
I liked it, I just think they could have done more with it. I'm not sure they really expanded on his mental deterioration over time for example.

You've just done a movie night in my third year at uni. Did you manage to get anywhere with Jo Lacey afterwards?

Little Children

Patrick Wilson and Kate Winslet start an affair after they meet each other over the park with their children. All this happens with the backdrop of a sex offender, recently released from prison, returning to the neighbourhood.

It's a bit of a strange film in all honesty but I loved it. 8/10

Bad Neighbours 2 - Funny in small parts, but pretty dire overall. Maybe you need to be drunk to see it, but felt like they done it as they had to due to the first one making so much money. 4/10.

Didn't think I'd seen this before, turns out I have. Amusing inner monologues aside it's a solid film.

The Girl With All The Gifts
Low budget British film based on the novel by MR Carey.

The UK has been ravaged by a mysterious fungal disease. The afflicted are robbed of all free will and turned into flesh-eating 'hungries'. The only hope is a small group of hybrid children who crave living flesh but retain the ability to think and feel. One girl in particular is especially intelligent and in control of her 'disease'. The children are detained at an army base in the Home Counties, where they are given an education and subjected to experiments.

What could possibly go wrong?

An interesting take on the Zombie 'genre', does one or two things a little different to the same old same old. My misses who normally won't see such 'silly' films enjoyed it a lot, so it must be decent.

a wife and now 2 cats
Law Abiding Citizen. Gerard Butler as a husband and father whose wife & daughter are murdered by an individual (who actually does the murders) & accomplice. As it turns out a deal is done by the DA which results in the 'actual' murderer being given a short sentence for testifying against his accomplice who is given the death sentence. Butler is furious with the justice system and goes out to right wrongs....A good thriller with a few twists along the way.

When I was at uni, I was speaking to a woman about the film Titanic and I said something along the lines of it's not my cup of tea because you basically know what's going to happen from the start. She said, "what, you knew the boat was going to sink?". She had no idea it was a real event.

She was also someone who asked if you could get pregnant from bum sex so perhaps not the brightest.

Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
Watched 'Vrchni, Prchni!' last night which is a czech film and the title would be Waiter, Scarper! in English.

Very very enjoyable film, its about a man who owns a book shop who has next to no money because he likes bedding women and has numerous kids with ex's he has to pay alimoney towards.

He goes to a class reunion one evening and only suit he has makes him look like a waiter and while popping in somewhere on way to buy a bottle of booze a customer gives him their bill money mistaking him for the Waiter.

this leads to some ridiculous OTT scheme where he ends up travelling round Prague and the Czech republic as a fake waiter to steal money off numerous customers to fuel a better lifestyle, all while trying to hide this second life from his wife and neighbour, while also trying to not sleep with anymore women other than his wife.

quite a funny film, it all ends up ridiculous but that sort've makes the film enjoyable. throughout.

Classic John Wayne film even though it's historically incorrect in so many places it's a good old rip roaring action film, one of Wayne's better acting performances as well. 8/10.

I watched Louis Theroux's My Scientology Movie. It's pretty excellent. Funny and interesting in equal measure. Possibly asks more questions than it answers, but it's an interesting approach to a subject which might otherwise have been something a bit well trodden.

Bridge of Spies (2015)
A spy based thriller set at the height of the Cold War. For an old student of the subject it had everything; Gary Powers, the erection of the Berlin Wall et all. Tom Hanks at his best.
