Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
Wakefield. Sadly not a documentary about how the anti-vaxxer in chief was fucked to death by elephants..

Bryan Cranston comes home from work late and for not much of a very good reason, ends up in the attic over their garage (which is across the drive from the house) and basically ends up living there in secret for a year watching his wife and two daughters cope with his disappearance.

It's all a bit odd. Tries to be a treatise on life, happiness and relationships, but it's just not quite there.

Also - John Wick 2.

Not as good as the first one. Reminded me of The Assassination Bureau, an old Ollie Reed film I saw once in about 1985.

I enjoyed both John Wick films but like you say the 2nd wasn't quite as good as the 1st,they're both films i could happily watch again in the future.

Winchester '73 (1950)

Follows the story of two men with a shared past as well as the journey of a highly sought-after prized rifle, with some injun-fighting thrown in for good measure.

oh I love this movie. Jimmy Stewart. Another one of my favourite US Actors (besides Randolph Scott and Gary Cooper). Ah yes and he served for his country in WWII and this has my respect too.

Very good choice so far, steven. I am excited which one comes next. Do you only watch the classic western from the 40's or 50's or do you also watch newer ones? One of my all time favourite western is "Last of the Mohicans" from 1992 with DD Lewis and Madeleine Stowe. Not only because I am, since my childhood, a fan of the Leatherstocking tales from James Fenimore Cooper but also because this one made the most of one of his novels together with an epic soundtrack (and Wes Studi as Magua is simply great).

I'm sticking with the older ones for now mate, just to get a feel for the genre before I dip into some of the more recent ones.

Nothing wrong with that. For me the 40's and 50's marks the golden era of the US Western.

edit. My 2000th post. Yippee ki-yay ;)

You forgot Audie Murphy i love his films and he was another who fought in WWII.
Not only fought in WWII but was the most decorated US soldier. You wouldn't think it to look at him as you'd think a gust of wind would blow him over! Watched an old movie with him the other day and I remember my dad going on about watching all his films when he was a kid.

Some cracking films there with Winchester 73 and Last Of The Mohicans (before Day-Lewis started his overacting bollocks ). Jimmy Stewart is probably in my top three screen actors of them all, I love pretty much all his stuff (though not fond of Vertigo due to his character being a manipulative dick). Also he wasn't a coward during the war unlike his buddy Wayne. He rose to become a Brigadier General in the Air Force!

Nah, mowgli. I didn't forget Audie Murphy above. Although I like some of his films he's not in the same category like Scott, Stewart and Cooper for me. as my favourite US Western Actors. I am fully aware of his merits during WWII (this started then his film career) and it's quite impressive.

btw: Did Murphy and Wayne act together in a film? Don't know that tbh. If yes, this must have been a bit embarassing for "the Duke" :pmsl:. to act besides a true war hero.

I don't think that they would have appeared in a film together due to the height difference, Murphy was 5' 5" whilst Wayne was 6' 4"

Checked earlier, it doesn't look like he did. He died in a plane crash aged only 45 as well. A short, but full life he had.

Supremacy (2014)
Brilliant film based on a true story,in 1992 a white supremacist is released from prison and on his first day out breaks into a black family's home and holds them hostage, the end scenes were so powerful showing the stupidity and pointless reasons for racism and the acting was superb especially Danny Glover as the father of the family. 9/10.

Missus and me went to see The Darkest Hour the other day....so so. At least we weren't interrupted by arseholes running in and giving it the 'holier than thou' shit.

Bright - The Netflix one with Will Smith as a cooper in an alternate reality where mythical creatures are real. It got a lot of stick when it came out and it’s not great. It’s got an interesting premise that they don’t explore enough (As well as humans, Orcs and Elves there are also quick nods to a Centaur, which was one of the funnier moments as he was a mounted police officer, and Fairies) There are a few funny lines and a pretty by the numbers buddy cop storyline. Not as good an examination of racism and bigotry as Zootopia was.

The Gunfighter (1950)

The best gunfighter in the west (Gregory Peck) rolls into town looking for an old flame, but trouble finds him instead

It's an "okayish" Western for me. Normally I like Gregory Peck but I have to admit he's not one of my fav. Western actors. Peck is Horatio Hornblower but no gunfighter ;)

Heh. I thought he pulled off the "quiet, menacing but not looking-for-trouble, gunslinger with a reputation" role off well in this one.

McCabe & Mrs. Miller tonight!

Peck always did good stuff, Moby Dick, The Omen, The Boys From Brazil, Hornblower, Spellbound, Guns of Navarone, Cape Fear, To Kill A Mockingbird, MacArthur etc. Plenty of great films there for those that haven't seen them.

That's right. Great as Ahab in Moby Dick. Cape Fear was brilliant (better than the remake from the 90's) but Peck was here outplayed by (a diabolical good) Robert Mitchum.
Ah yes, Boys from Brazil. The only Peck Film where I hated the character he played (for obvious reasons)

Yeah he was a nasty bugger in the Brazil, though it was a good change up for him seeing as he was a goodie for so long (though in The Omen he had to contemplate killing a child too). Moby Dick was brilliant fun, and Orson Welles being infamously drunk filming his monologue on the pulpit! And I agree about Cape Fear, the nineties one is good, but the original with Peck and Mitchum was even better. Very racy for its day too, Mitchum is evil incarnate in it. Brilliant film.

Indeed mate, though I prefer the former to the latter, even though I do love a courtroom drama. Saw Moby Dick for about the fourth time just the other week. Great stuff. :)

Have you ever read or seen 'The Onion Field' by Joesph Wambaugh ? The book goes into faaaaaaaaar more detail regards the trial(s) which went on for years due to appeals by the 2 convicted crims. It's very deep but I really enjoyed it.
