It's not a true story, the Coen brothers just put that in for dramatic license. As for the German influence that wouldn't surprise me tbh as the German immigrants built houses and communities all over rural America.

i thought that the ya and aboot thing was a Canadian influence?

Good absorbing film based on a true story about The Boston Globe investigation into a child molestation cover-up by The Catholic Church. Not usually my kind of film but i'm glad i decided to watch it. 8/10.

Watched Darkest Hour yesterday and really enjoyed it, didn't know too much about Churchy and if it's accurate as to what actually happened then fair play.

7/10.

The Finest Hours (2016)
Based on a true story,in 1951 a US Coastguard rescue boat tries to rescue the crew of a tanker that was broken up during an Atlantic storm. Starring Chris Pine and Casey Affleck this was a film well worth watching. 7.5/10.

Forbidden Ground (2013)
After charging the German trench in WWI 3 surviving British soldiers are trapped in no mans land after the failure of the attack. This started off brilliantly then lost it's way with the story about one of the men's wife at home which did nothing for the film but perked up again towards the end. The opening charge was brutal as you'd expect with the enemy machine gunners seeing they couldn't miss as so many men were tightly packed together running towards the German trench. 7/10.

What other David Lynch films have you seen? I thought Mulholland Drive was a masterpiece :eyes: Inland Empire was pretty much close to perfection, my second favourite work of his (Twin Peaks being #1)

I've seen Eraserhead and the Elephant Man - both of which I liked and need to rewatch, and, like you, I'm a massive fan of Twin Peaks (the originals, anyway - I've not seen the newer ones yet).

Watch them ASAP so we can discuss. Lynch is a genius.
Dune is bonkers as it's all over the place in comparison with the masterpiece of the novel, but I believe the studio cut it like mad as his original draft was 8 hours!

I like the film he did with the old guy on the tractor going across America to say goodbye to his dying brother. Also like The Elephant Man as well though it is a hard watch with the cruelty. Mulholland Drive is one of his weird ones and there are a few utterly terrifying scenes in it. Blue Velvet is excellent though.

He's an oddball of a director and some of his stuff sometimes doesn't quite work, but give me him over bloody Tarantino any day.

I always think of camp whenever I see Randolph Scott, and having watched a film the other month with him wearing nothing but swimming trunks, this view hasn't improved!

Now Cary and him lived together for years and there was always hints of them being lovers as Scott was gay; but even in other pics with him in his westerns, I can't get past his camp demeanour. Grant on the other hand is still in my top 10 actors of all time though.

Could never stand Wayne, his arrogance, lack of acting ability and the way he was off-screen makes me detest him. In fact I've only seen one Wayne film right through, and that's The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance as I was going through Jimmy Stewart films and Lee Marvin was in it also, so watched it beside that useless prick's presence. I want to see The Searchers, but can't bring myself to watch it with him the lead actor.

Aye the 'hero' who didn't bother serving in WWII, then told the McCarthyites about who he suspected of being 'commies' and who were all subsequently blacklisted because of it. Despicable twat and coward he was.
