McCabe and Mrs. Muller (1971)

A strange western about a card-dealer/"gunslinger" and a prostitute/madame who work together as business partners in a remote mining town. It's snowing all the time, you can hear snippets of conversations going on in the background and Leonard Cohen tracks appear every fifteen minutes.

8/10

tbh I don't remember this one very well. It had Warren Beatty in it, that's normally enough for me to not watch it. But I did watch the film I am very sure about it because Julie Christie was in it too. And Julie Christie was a cracker. Damn Julie Christie...yeah.
hmmm, maybe I should watch this one again....Julie Christie, Julie Christie

They even have the full movie on yt:

but not in German dubbed version (tbh I prefer to watch it in German, although I nearly understand all in English it's sometimes too hard to follow when there are some special expressions etc.)

edit: Quality of the above yt movie is shite, I see.

btw:

That's the Julie I like the most:

long straight hair. One of the most beautiful women in film in the 60's for me. Always had a soft spot for her (and our Senta Berger ) . I even watched Doctor Zhivago :D

A canadia soldier is sent to fight in the third battle for Ypres in WWI. This film started off well then became more like a soap back in Canada before a brutal battle at the end. 6/10.

That's one of those revisionist westerns they did in the 70's, moving away from the traditional westerns previously filmed (excluding John Ford) and looking again at them in a different way, and moving towards the more thought-provoking westerns we have now. Have only seen the last 20 mins of this, but will need to check out the whole thing one of these days.

And yep, Julie Christie was stunning back then (Don't Look Now anyone? ;) ).

Which version?

Kidnap (2017)
Halle Berry stars as a mother who sees heryoung son being kidnapped in a car at a fair and gives chase. This isn't usually my kind of film but the missus wanted to watch it but i enjoyed it,fast paced with some great stunts and Berry was brilliant as the distraught mother. 7.8/10.

Which version?

New one mate, it was quite good, well made and had a bit of a punch to it.

Seen the old one too with Dicky Attenborough et al, that's excellent as well.

Good choice again, steven. Although I am no fan of Joan Crawford (she must have been a real hollywood bitch from what I heard) this role is made for her (the German title is btw "Johnny Guitar - Wenn Frauen hassen (if (when?) women hate...).

btw: Some of my all time favourite supporting Western actors are in it. Ward Bond and Royal Dano. I have a soft spot for those supporting Western actors and always look out for them (like the beforementioned or in other films Walter Brennan, Jack Elam etc....)

btw: Thanks for raising my mood. After today's HSV home match "I'm so depressed I can't even blink"

Ah great choice. Haven't yet seen this, though I do like Crawford a lot (prefer her to her nemesis Bette Davis) and watched a bio about her the other month with this featuring highly. Was going through old films I want to watch last night by adding some Spencer Tracy and Kirk Douglas films I've yet to see. Will be adding this now too. :)

There is a Faye Dunaway (what a beauty she was before her multiple facelifts she's carrying now) film where she portrayed Crawford, and apparently she was a real bitch to her kids as well, disinheriting two of her four children. Always meant to look that out too.

vice versa for me. I like Bette way more than this Crawford bitch. Bette was no typical Hollywood (Blonde) Beauty with no brain but sometimes she could look like an angel (no wonder she had "Bette Davis Eyes" (one of my fav 80's songs from Kim Carnes)

Big fan of Spencer Tracy (not so of "hole in the chin" Douglas). He and Katherine Hepburn in a movie, big time entertainment. I love nearly all of his films. For steven a "western" recommendation here with him: Northwest Passage from 1940. I like these "independence war" era western the most (that's why JF Cooper's Leatherstocking novels are still one of my favs)

Faye Dunaway, Absolutely, yes. What a beauty in the end 60s and early 70's. The thomas crown movie with Steve McQueen, brilliant. I even watched Bonny&Clyde (although I already mentioned my absolute dislike of Warren Beatty). Yes these damned "facelifts". Destroyed some real beauty faces (Melanie Griffiths is another example where these endless "liftings" are not the best....ok, Mickey Rourke too

Try a Heineken Dirk. ;)

I wrote "depressed" not "mad", Salty :D

edit: Uih, the Bette Davis pic is a bit large.

Think I’ll get back to my old B&W Humphrey Bogart collection - Treasure of the Sierra Madre is my fav
