Newport and Colchester for us in our final two, so we're still going to have a say in the PO race.

Dammit man... what a wasted opportunity yesterday was. Sounded like we had every chance second half to win it. I mean I wasn't there but all through the game our commentators sounded like they were expecting us to find another gear. We seemed to have plenty of the ball in dangerous areas without creating anything and Grimsby sounded there for the taking. Bit of a blow losing Big Kel during the game and Devitt over the weekend, we've got some hugely influential players out right when we need that sort of character and determination.

Huge relief at Exeter's disallowed winner, which went in just before Grimsby scored and the commentators didn't update us that it had been disallowed until after they'd finished talking about that. Shows how fine the margins are; for most of the match I was just waiting for us to nick a goal against a Grismby side who didn't sound up for it. I was hoping and anticipating that we'd be here now, a point clear in the playoffs (Exeter have 66 dude) meaning a win at home to Crawley would secure it. Then it looked like we were going to be four points behind and all but out. Now relief to only be two points behind.

Can't take any more of this. Expected we'd have been put out of our misery long ago but the shitness of the teams around us just continues to drag this out.

Someone please just put Exeter out of their misery. They clearly don't want to lose a third successive playoff final, it would be a mercy killing, let someone else have a go.

Can they stay and somehow get in a position to play us?

We will gladly oblige on sat, it would put us right back in the mix

What's Exeter's points split between first half and second half of the season (which is roughly Stockley and no Stockley?)? Feels like quite a contrast.

We had 41 points at the half way mark - if we had repeated that, 82 would at the very least have us going down to goal difference for the top three. It has been truly dire since Christmas. Even mediocre form since Christmas would have had us comfortably in the play-offs.

41 points from 23 games, followed by 23 points from 21, ridiculous.

Thing is, everyone else in the promotion shake up will be wanting you to win on Saturday, because as close are you are to us all, nobody is getting in those playoffs unless Exeter are knocked out of them. May have to hope for a draw when you play Newport though.

Yep, Oldham to beat Exeter and draw with Newport would be perfect if we could beat MK!

We had 33 points, so we are actually on course to double it. However, we picked up a lot of points in January and tailed off after.

I look at our run-in and wish we had six pointers instead of these games against the likes of Grimsby, Crawley and Yeovil. Since the start of March, we've only played two of the teams in the playoff shake up, Newport and Stevenage, so we're constantly checking other scores and half the time when one of our rivals loses, it puts a new team into the mix. Life would be simpler if we could just play Exeter next.

When Stockley played his last game for us we had played 25 games and had 40 points and were in 7th place.
So not much difference with him or without him.

Whichever league we're in the other imponderable is how we'd manage without Norwood. Mellon has done well recruiting defenders and midfielders, but the forwards he's brought in haven't made much impact or quickly fallen out of favour.

Surely with Ishmael Miller, Cole Stockton, Chris Dagnall and Paul Mullin you have the dream team ready and waiting to fill Norwood's boots.

Recently I’d have agreed but we were the better team yesterday. Think you had one decent chance in the second half but that was about it. A draw was probably fair but 3 points to Carlisle definitely wouldn’t have been. You’ve got decent players but they weren’t in tune with each other. Really liked the look of O’Hare but there was no cohesion with the rest of the team.

I wasn't there, but from our commentary, it just sounded like we were playing at something like 50% capacity as if there was something extra that was going to kick in at some point in the second half... but it never did.

O'Hare's inexperience sometimes lets him down a bit. It's pretty much to be expected of a player who has been carefully encased in Villa's academy for the past few years. He can look threatening but also like any young player, he sometimes tries to do it all himself because he hasn't yet got the footballing brain to make use of the players around him.

Have a feeling that you might not get away with that this season if it happens again :shifty:

Should be a great game and atmosphere. 10,000+ easily.
might push 11k depending on buuuury s numbers we got nearly 9.5 k against the seat smashers and they came in a taxi ! swa swa

Think there’ll be a slight dip in home support as our top 3 challenge is all but over.

10,500 with 1,600 of that away.

The atmosphere is going to be electric at Prenton Park.. as good as you’ll ever find for a L2 match.

Big crowd, two good teams, one who are on top form and the other has off the field issues but carry on limping towards the finish line. Promotion at stake.... add in the backstory of the 2015 promotion game and the somewhat local rivalry between the clubs and it’s very much a perfect storm.

It is not that long since we were averaging 9,000, so it is more a case of the returning disaffected than glory hunters with us.
