I reckon Tranmere will win the playoffs. I don't want them to for the selfish reason that it's one of my favourite away days, and I couldn't make it this season, and the last time before they were relegated it was a Tuesday night so I haven't been there since we were both stumbling toward relegation from League One.

Disappointing to end our season with a goalless draw against the league's bottom club, our first in over two years. Regardless of what other teams do, and even though a win wouldn't have made any differnce; you always want to do your part and while it sounded like we weren't short of chances we just missed that killer instinct. How the fuck have we ended up 6th highest goalscorers when the whole season has just felt like a long montage of missed sitters?

Ultimately it was defeat at Grimsby that did for us. Based on our performance that day it would be wrong to say we 'should' have won, but right to say that we should have put in a better performance against a team playing in flip-flops using the match to blood a few youngers. If we'd done that then we likely would have won, and we'd be in the playoffs right now.

If Tranmere can get through Forest Green then they'll win promotion. I don't think Mansfield have the bottle personally.
I can see a Newport - Tranmere final. Mansfield probably feel a bit shellshocked and the last thing they'll want right now is a trip to Dave Parade. They'll likely rally in the second leg but I can see Newport doing the damage in the first.

Now I haven’t always seen eye to eye with Devon Lad but I’m sure there will be an ok guy there behind all the bullshit he spouts, so I just want to wish his team all the very best in the play offs.
There's more to us than Devon Lad. When is your promotion party??

Didn’t you say Tranmere had no chance of catching you? Curious.

We’re due one over on FGR, two relatively even teams.

Well kick on again next season regardless, be it for a better top 3 challenge in league two or top half of league one.

Next May. :bg:

At least we get to play “sides like Grimsby” next season  (and the predictable home win after calling the first one off due to a water logged pitch when injured) lol

Ajose didn’t bang in the goals to lead Mansfield to promotion then?

Did he even play much?

A bit premature but I did say to you back in early season after you took the piss for losing at Yeovil or somewhere that we would still be in the same division next season!

Though despite your recent form I still think you are favourites for going up, if you don't beat Newport over two legs considering where both sides have been all season, Flitcroft is a worse manager than I thought.

Mate obviously it’s all tongue in cheek anyway.

We won’t go up anyway, we’re a busted flush

Forest Green v Newport final for me. Whilst Mansfield are the best team, it’s going to be really tough for them to pick themselves up off the floor after just missing out on the last day. Tranmere have a great chance if Perkins has fully recovered from his injury, really missed him since he’s been out.

I’m surprised Mansfield bottled promotion as I was really impressed with them at Blundell Park, proper did a job on us that day and limited us to scraps apart from an early 1 on 1 we had, and that was when we were the form team in the league too.
FGR demolished us here on opening day and despite 2 of their goals being gifts from us the 4-1 result was a fair score, even while we were somehow 1-0 up they were by far the better team.
Wasn’t at the Newport or Tranmere home games but we beat both of them by 3 goals bizarrely including the hand of cod goal against Tranmere.
My prediction is FGR to win them, based purely on how good they were here.

I got it pretty spot on then. Such a shame that he can’t be bothered to get his career back on track.

Good luck with Ajose.

One of the most lazy, disinterested footballers I’ve had the misfortune to watch.

If you can some how motivate him you might get a few goals out of him but I doubt it. Seems to only score goals for Swindon.
Absolutely woeful with serious question marks over attitude.

Been loaned out to various clubs by various managers since being here so make of that what you will.

After that game I really felt we would go up and I am super negative. Was all downhill after that which will teach me to get my hopes up!
For absolutely no reason whatsoever I have a sneaky feeling we will beat Newport.

Apparently Rugby is being played at Newport the night before lol? It’s such a ridiculous advantage that shithole.

I actually find it near impossible to think that we could win the play-offs, I mean if we manage not to get battered on that ridiculous pitch on Thursday we might get to the final but Wembley alone is too much pressure for our lot of expensively assembled players.

Love to be proved wrong!!!

If I was a betting man, I would lump it on Newport. They have plenty of momentum, and an ability to compete in knockout/cup ties, which is what the play-offs are essentially.
I get what you’re saying about momentum but from our previous play off attempts (W2 L4) this was our form going into the 2 that we won in 2016 and 1998:

And there was one in the National League in 12/13 where in our last 7 games we W5 D2 before playing abysmal in losing both play off legs 1-0 to Newport and barely having a shot in either game.
