Still remember when Mousinho played at centre half in a JPT game at Deepdale. Think it was against Oldham. Made 2 mistakes in the first five minutes which cost us 2 goals. Awful for us.

Mousinho was fine for us. Wasn't awful, but at the same time never looked like he could be a defensive lynchpin in this league

Michael Nelson was the lynchpin of Norwich's defence when they went up. Dennis Lawrence and Neil Austin were mainstays of Swansea's defence. You can play that game all day.

This has to be the worst third tier in English football history.
Quite. Which is why many teams (ourselves included) will be kicking themselves come the end of the season that they've not gone up or even challenged in a league with so many average/poor sides.

I'm not going to take anything away from Burton/Gills/Walsall if any/all of them do go up though, would be a brilliant effort for them to be promoted to the Championship.

As for us, if we beat Crewe on Saturday then I'll still see us as having a slim chance of making the top 6. Anything else and we can effectively say goodbye to what, in fairness, was unthinkable only a couple of months back with us bottom of the table.

Not in agreement about it being that poor a standard, last season in the championship half the teams were not any better. The big gap in money just inflates poor players wages in the division above.

Both extremely poor for us but different set-ups/ different systems... sometimes it just works, fair play.
I understand that they were poor for you, they probably wouldn't have signed for us otherwise ! but yes you are right, different system and standard

Fair enough. My opinion is based on the teams I've seen us play this season. Only Wigan, Walsall and Coventry have been better than average and lots have been downright awful. Which says all you need to know about how bad we were earlier in the season.

If you look at the top few sides last year as a squad and compare to this seasons top few sides squads the difference is immense, go back a further year to Wolves and Brentford and it's even bigger to say the league isn't that poor this season would be crazy (bear in mind Millwall were not in it) one of the sides promoted last season had a midfielder who is up for Premier League goal of the season, surely to be a key figure in England's Euro 2016 squad and potentially to be a key player in his sides Premier League triumph. Damien McCrory is hardly the equivalent.

It's been relatively disappointing, when we came up from five years in the basement the main view was the improvement in the quality of football on display but I'd say this year has been like watching league two level football again. (Possibly why two promoted sides are enjoying decent success so far)

Delle Alli bucks the trend though, he certainly wasn't reflective of the MK Dons squad as a whole. I remember the last time we were down here Baines was 17 and in our first team and has gone on to be the best left back in the Premier League and nearly 50 England caps, you will get good youngsters breaking through every now and again from this division.

The Championship is not as strong as people would have you believe and there's very little between the top half of League One and bottom half of The Championship no matter what some people would have you believe. Good management and the right set up is crucial. We were favourites to get promoted to the Premier League last season having had arguably the strongest squad in the league, but awful management which included signing one of the top scorers from La Liga, and playing him in just 4 games and bad attitude from a number of players and we went down. Had Caldwell taken over after the disaster that was Rosler and not Mackay, I think things would have been very different last season. Burnley the season before were one of the relegation favourites and had one of the worst squads in The Championship and went up due to fantastic management. In a way similar to Burton/Walsall/Gillingham competing this season in this league. Birmingham are a fine example, dreadful squad, certainly wouldn't look out of place in the relegation zone in The Championship but have a superb manager in Rowett and are challenging for the play offs.

As for MK Dons/Bristol City/Preston squads from last season and Wolves/Brentford from the season before I certainly wouldn't swap their squads for ours. We've got a squad filled with mainly youngsters with massive potential and had it not been for the fact we had 20 new signings to bed in, which meant we got off to a slow start in the opening 10 games, we would probably have been quite a way ahead. Those teams all started off the season with fairly settled squads which helped them hugely.

You have Craig Morgan, Craig Davies and David Perkins... I think you're pretty biased.

I'll give you Davies as an overrated show-pony, but Perkins was and is class (based on his performance for Wigan at Spotland this season.)

Wouldn't get a sniff at any of the teams mentioned above.

To be fair we've fucked up a little bit, but so have the FA and the Football League. Seems a bit weird that Spurs didn't have Paddy's registration, considering we signed him from their development programme but hey ho. Points deduction would be way out of line.

They got lucky considering Rotherham lost 3 points over a similar offence last season (not renewing a loan in time)

Baxter played against us in the same game because he claimed his drink was ahem spiked with drugs. So we will call it even.

I think the decision is about right, FA cocked up and although there was an error from Gills there was no doubting it was a sincere mistake.

It's not that similar really other than they were both ineligible. Rotherham just got the paperwork in late.

Osadebe was registered by the FL in July, but for some reason it took the FA until after the season had started to process the registration. No idea when the error in documentation was discovered but it seems a bit weird that it has only come to light now.

It's fairly clear to see why we assumed we were signing him from Spurs though.

When Burton win tomorrow, they effectively rule us entirely out of the promotion race. It will be a case of gaining enough points between now and May to sneak or hold on to the 6th place by the skin of our teeth.

Why wouldn't the player have known who he was registered to, afterall he must have signed something.

Still say its a lucky escape, Enfield Town got done over spelling mistake by the FA and his previous club over Aryan Tajbakhsh's number of bookings.

http://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/may/06/enfield-town-fa-ryman-league

In its judgment the Ryman League said Tajbakhsh played when he should not have done, end of story. Enfield, managed by the former Tottenham apprentice Bradley Quinton, were found guilty of breaching Ryman League rule 6.9 which states that “any club found to have played an ineligible player shall have any points gained from that match or matches deducted from its record … and have levied upon it a fine.”

Done and dusted now, but in the past they hit clubs no matter whose fault it was.

I've just looked at who Burton play in defence every week, Mousinho and Cansdell-Sherriff. Fuck me.

This has to be the worst third tier in English football history.

McLaughlin in goal for them got released from us being deemed not good enough. He was no worse than anyone we've had since but not a world beater. They're clearly a greater than the sum of their parts team.

That's spot on, they play as a team to their strengths.

Absolutely. Phil Edwards and Shane Sherrif were both competent and reliable for Dale. Good pros, who never let anyone down, but no worldbeaters. And Lucas Akins has done very well since not being taken on after a trial spell in summer 2010. Three good lads who I wish every success to.

Brewers v Sheep would be a hell of a Derby match - come on Burton!!
