We had two 15 year olds on the bench yesterday, one of thems entire family are season ticket holders. Memorable night for those lads. #themagicoftheefltrophy
Any chance them 15 will play Saturday we might then get a draw !

I'm 21 years older than that kid - that's bloody frightening.
Yeah, but you were banging them in the top corner at pro level at 15 weren't you?!

Also, we're the same age.

I scored twice for my u14s team, and was sent off once for swearing at the ref after he refused to give me a free-kick when a keeper hacked me down in a 1-on-1 situation.

That's as good as I got.

I'm now coaching my son's u10s team. We lost 7-1 last week. Bloody top notch at football I am...

My peak was also at U14s, socring a sudden death penalty winner in a Lincs Cup (?) quarter final replay.

Whilst we haven’t lost in 90 mins yet it’s frustrating to lose two penalty shootouts in a row.

We’ve got some brilliant players in our squad and once our attacking players start clicking and working well together, I think we’ll be a solid team this season. Still think we’ll bring in one or two more as well.

Port Vale will be at the top end of the league this season there’s no doubt about that. Really couldn’t care less about progressing in this competition however and the sooner we have this distraction out the way the better!

Centre of the park could be a problem for us this season I think!

Beating an almost full strength Tranmere side with a team full of kids and newbies, 9 changes from Saturday, has to be a positive.

RLC who impressed you?

Considering his papier mache hamstrings I thought Oyeleke had a fantastic game given the 30 odd minutes of football he's played this millenium due to injury. Visser, Conlon and Montano also played really well.

Alex Hurst and Daniel Trickett-Smith haven't played a single minute of league football before and did ok.

Lots of positives. Lots to work on, but for basically an all change reserve team to more than hold their own against a first 11 bar Vaughn, can't complain.
I thought Kieron Morris was the best player on the pitch by far but I was impressed by Oyeleke for Vale. I always liked him when he was at Aldershot.

Although your stiffs gave us a decent game, you have to bear in mind we had played two games in four days with players that are not match fit yet, whereas your eleven will have been much fresher.

Manny hadnt kicked a ball in 12 months! Did very well and a great option to have if he can stay fit, with Whitehead, Joyce, Manny, Conlon and Burgess we have options we could of only dreamt about having when we had Tonge, Kay and Pugh plodding round our midfield.

Good to see the credibility of this competition being shat on time and time again. Even some of the u21 sides are playing weakened teams.

Too late to scrap it for this season?

1-0 down and GC took off our two best players in the 60th minute, tells you how important we view it.

The highly talented Liverpool U21’s for us tonight. Would expect us to be playing as many fringe players as possible. Can we pick up our first win of the season?

Liverpool play Arsenal on thurday in the League Cup. They will use most of their under 21s in that so its likely going to be an under 18s team. Whoever it is i am not interested. Boycott.

Still be nice to pick up our first win of the season and take some of the pressure off Saturdays game.

Under 18s. No idea why Liverpool even bothered entering. Under 21s play in the League Cup.

Complete myth. They've played a sprinkling of young lads in the domestic cup competitions over the years and a few are involved with the first team now.

Everyone's looking at that Aston Villa tie and acting like it's the norm. It was a freak occurrence due to their participation in the Club World Cup.

Wayhey Jacko has got the monkey off his back with the first win under his belt as Tranmere manager, albeit against a very young and lightweight but technically gifted Liverpool U21 side.
Liverpool were the better team at 1-0 with a peach of a free kick. Three quality finishes from Vaughan 2 and Payne saw Rovers over the line. Vaughan’s 2nd was yards offside.
