The way we've been playing recently, we could be in the bottom 4 come Tuesday evening.

Having lost 3 senior players for the season, we're now attempting to blag our way through the rest of the season with a load of inexperienced kids and we rarely look like scoring.

Wouldn't be suprised if in a months time Jackett is sacked and we're looking over our shoulders too.

This is bordering one of the worst sets of displays we've been putting in since we came back up, not quite as bad as the Carl Fletcher/Ross Embleton period of October 2019-January 2020, but its getting close.

Bottom two are done and dusted
Got to disagree with this. I can see both Scunthorpe and Oldham going on a run. Obviously not watching them all the time but a couple of results go their way and suddenly the gloom lifts.

That's probably Carlisle's big fear.

Carlisle lost 3 players to injury on Tuesday, but will have 4 new signings available for Saturday - but if they lose to Rochdale and Colchester get a win at out of sorts Leyton Orient then they could end up the day only 5 points ahead of the winner in the Scunthorpe Oldham game and 3 points behind 4th bottom (if Walsall and Barrow don't lose). The only good result for Carlisle (other than winning at Rochdale) is if there is a draw at Scunthorpe.

We've won 5 of our last 47 matches, this idea that we might suddenly turn it on is a thing of fantasy

someone usually does around this time though - last season it was us... a win on Saturday could start either you or Oldham on a good run.

Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
Sometimes one of the sides down there finally gets to a stage where playing for draws isn’t enough and trying to keep it tight isn’t worth it.

Bottom sides usually approach games right now with the style of defending, hoping for 0-0 with a chance of Nicking it.

Soon it gets to the point that needs ditched and you ‘have a go’

Works for some sides, doesn’t for others but it can lead to a late run

But you’ve made a load of new signings that on paper look quite good for a relegation battle. Add that mix with a manager who knows this league inside out, it’s very possibly that you’ll put a run of results together.

Reminds me a bit of Hartlepool 5 or 6 years ago. Looked dead and buried, then Ronnie Moore came in, got a few new faces through the door in Jan, they put a run together and somehow escaped. Can see you doing the same.

Let’s just be clear here, there’s no “if Carlisle lose to Rochdale”, there’s absolutely no chance this shower of shit gets anything there. The one decent part of our team of late (the defence) is now ravaged with injuries. It’s all looking like a big disjointed inexperienced patched together mess. Not to mention our defensive midfielder Callum Guy is now out long term.
Our only hope is that the new signings improve the attacking side, but that’s a big ask for the first game when a lot of them have played little to no football of late.

In what way do they look quite good?

We lost our four top goalscorers in January and replaced them with three strikers with 17 career goals combined. We got a player not wanted by Tranmere, a team in our division.

Anthony Grant is the only signing I think is a good player, the rest we're just stuck with because of our financial situation.

This club is buried and it has been for years, we're stuck in a decline that we will not be able to get out of.

Delaney is good and Hill knows him.
Feeney is a decent player, obviously past his best but experienced which is what you need in a relegation battle.
Anthony Grant is pretty much the perfect signing for a team in your position.
And I think Nuttall will be decent enough for the bottom end of this league.

The positive for you and Oldham is that we are getting worse by the week and have just lost the core of our defensive line and defensive midfield, plus both our right backs. I’d be shocked if we win 3 more games this season. Which ever one of you and Oldham comes out on top on Saturday will have a great chance of closing the gap over the next couple of weeks. You won’t even have to become that good, just pick up slightly and you’ll over take us.

If you'd have signed any of the players we had you would say they were shite and you're doomed.

If Carlisle were to win 3 more games, that would mean we need to win 6 of our last 21 games. We've won 5 of our last 47.

Like I said, I’d be shocked if we win 3 more games.

It’s all well and good saying you’ve won 5 in 47 so won’t win many of your next 21, but it’s now almost a completely different team, it’s Hill’s team now. He’s a proven league 2 manager who I’d swap for ours in a second. Now that it’s his players there’s every chance he’ll get you set up to star picking up results. I would say the same about Sheridan as well, although his job is harder as he hasn’t really brought in many new players.

Apparently we got a signing in tomorrow before the Scunthorpe game if our forum is to be believed it’s a player recently been playing in the championship I Will believe it when I see it

HG is too pessimistic isn't he. Makes it difficult for other United fans. Wonder if that's why I'm the only other one left posting regularly here, there used to be a good collection of us.

I'm worried about relegation, we're close enough that we could get dragged into it, the last few performances haven't been great, we have injuries now and the way the club has been run over the past decade or so makes decline feel inevitable. But next to HG those sort of views make me look like a head in the sand happy-clapper ignoring the obvious and harbouring unrealistically positive expectations for what we can pull off.

I'll probably not be posting much on this thread, unless we actually do get to the point where a result could mathematically relegate us.

Not sure the bit about not being wanted by us is a good argument considering how strong our attacking midfield options are.

Expect him to do a solid job for you.

So I’ve driven other United fans off the forum? I highly doubt I’m that powerful.

It’s more likely that they like many fans have got fed up of watching the same dismal shit year in year out and have simply given up caring and found something else to do with their time and money. The likes of you and I are the diehards that still foolishly hand over our money to the club killers.

Man he's fucking deluded. By that logic Scunthorpe and Oldham aren’t in a relegation battle either.

The first step in recovery is admitting you have a problem.

His job is to motivate the players. If you were manager and I was a player I'd probably have thrown in the towel weeks ago given how futile it all sounded

Haven't listened to the interview so not sure of the context but it seems to me like he's trying to take the pressure off the squad. Whether it works or not I don't know but it's not the first time a manager in this situation would say something similar.

If I was manager, only a few of these players would still be playing for the club post January, so whether they’d have thrown in the towel by now wouldn’t really matter. Most of them would have been shipped out or be sat in the stands.

Four points from nine from a run against Newport (A), Northampton (A) and Tranmere (H). Would've snapped your hand off for that 7 days ago.

By end of play Tuesday night, Oldham could have closed the gap with us to 2 points with a game in hand.

At that point I’m fairly sure a large portion of our fanbase will get a sudden dose of reality.

On current form and with our recent level of performance, that scenario is extremely unlikely. But yeah if the unimaginable did happen, it would put a good gap between us and Oldham, but we wouldn’t be safe.

No one is safe in the bottom 8 or 9 only needs a bad run and a good few results for the bottom two the gap will quickly close. We only had to win one game out of the last 8 when we got relegated from league one
