What’s gone against us most is that the players have jacked it in the last couple of games. The least talented group in our history now can’t be arsed and it’s showing. Piergianni and Keillor-Dunn have already signed contracts elsewhere for next season and most of the rest are out of contract.

Any idea where Keillor-Dunn is off to?

No idea where they’re off to - I’m not ITK at all but but people who are have said they’ve both signed elsewhere. My guess would be Piergianni to Mansfield and Keillor-Dunn to Northampton but that’s guesswork

Bahamboula is the pick of the Latics based on what I saw yesterday.

I know we enquired about Keillor-Dunn in January.

We will actually have a big say in Oldham's fate. If we beat Stevenage on Saturday that will keep them alive for another week, but we could then relegate them at Prenton Park in the following game.

On his day, yes. His day has been very rare this season. To be fair to him, part of that is because we’ve been trying to play him up top which isn’t his position because we’ve failed to sign a striker all season.

It does look likely that we’ll be getting relegated at Prenton Park which will be fun

Saturday sees;-

Barrow v Sutton
Oldham vs Salford
Stevenage v Tranmere

could be all settled next weekend - but this is League 2 - so it won't be that straight forward...
Come on Barrow. Win on Saturday, followed by a 48 hour bender...

Really hoping Barrow still have something to play for on Tuesday, would love them to keep the pressure on Exeter

I’ve been following the League 2 relegation battle with some interest, mainly because it features an ex-Premier League side (they did some impressive things in the 1970s-90s, a bit like us between getting promoted to the second tier in 1979 and being relegated from it in 1996, but sadly never returned after going back down to the third tier and rarely looked like doing so). One recurring pattern I’ve noticed this season is a number of struggling clubs have pulled clear after sacking their managers mid-season after going on terrible runs (Carlisle, Walsall, Orient, Colchester). Oldham had a mini-revival and looked a good bet for safety (there was one weekend when they won and five results went in their favour, the feeling must have been like all their Christmases had come at once) and I was wondering why they couldn’t sustain it. Then I realised it was probably no more than the new manager effect, they’d appointed John Sheridan for what was it the fourth or fifth time, and an uptick in results wasn’t surprising. But other managers at the clubs mentioned managed to sustain good form, so maybe the bottom line is the players aren’t good enough no matter who is in charge? It’s also interesting (happened before in this division) that teams can go for weeks looking like they can’t beat an egg, dropping points in a ton of winnable games even at home, before they turn the corner and put together a sequence of results that looked way beyond them (Barrow may do the same after their thrashing of FGR).

Players not good enough, shez got a lift out of them but that would only go so far.
Reason we will be relegated is down to an owner who hides in Dubai whilst his brother plays football manager, using their player agency to bring players to England to then make money on them but that hasn't worked out.
Now we are were we are sadly.
Hopefully new owners will take over asap, but that wont be easy with ALs value too high and complications with the ground ownership.
But at least Carlise are safe, thats the main thing.

ideal results for us this weekend would be Barrow (W), Oldham (D), Stevenage (L) - that would leave Oldham 6 behind us with 6 available - but unable to catch us on GD. So we'd be safe - but it would also mean they are only 3 behind Stevenage - and Stevenage looked really poor against Scunthorpe - If Stevenage's bubble has burst they could lose all 4 remaining games. 4 points could save Oldham.

Glad to see Barrow stay up but very sad to see Oldham go. One of the few clubs who’ve always always had quality away support at Prenton. Sorry we couldn’t help you out today.

Commiserations to Oldham.

I just hope both clubs going down are sold asap to give them every chance of coming back.

The sales will likely take a few months, but the sooner its done both clubs can come back.

The scenes at Oldham today so similar to ours 5 years ago when we was already down and the fans had nothing more to lose.

Well it’s a good bye from me gotta say well done to barrow and Stevenage put your runs together at the right time . My first game watching my team was in 1969 I’ve been a season ticket holder since 1975 and I’ve seen them grace every division today was my last game watching them at boundary park until the current owners leave the club away game only for me now

cheers Attila;- you're not the 1st team to go down due to bad owners - but once the ownership has changed others have come back - and you will too.

In 2000 shortly after I got into football, I heard that Oldham used to play in the Premiership - hard to believe it at the time because then they were just a mediocre second division (1992-2004 term) club. Actually that year I saw a behind-the-scenes football documentary which showed the away dressing room at Boundary Park, where Cardiff needed to win to avoid relegation to Div. 3. Again, I found it hard to believe this was the same club that hosted Prem football - the pitch was in a terrible state despite it being late in the season, and the ground seemed nearly empty. On researching their history I noticed just five years after dropping out of the top flight, they nearly went all the way down to Div. 3 - I thought that was the lowest they would have sunk and they’d eventually find their way back to Div. 1, if not the Prem (fan favourite Andy Ritchie was their manager). It never remotely entered my head that they’d fall another two divisions.

The younger fans probably don’t realise what a good side Oldham had back in the 80s/90s - League Cup finalists and FA Cup semi-finalists twice (one of them the season they were relegated from the Prem, and they almost got to the final - their last gasp of glory), scoring goals for fun especially at fortress Boundary Park when they won the old Division 2 and survived comfortably in their first season in the top flight for 68 years, achieving one of the greatest escapes in Premier League history in the season they were founder members. A very sad decline for sure - though crowds don’t show it, historically at least they’ll be the biggest club after Luton (who had 30 points deducted) and Notts County to play in the fifth tier.

Yes I started supporting Vauxhalls when Mad Terry took us out of the league in 2000. I returned when Steven Vaughan bought him out. We won the Conference in 2004, but it was never going to end well.

Commiserations to Oldham, I hope for the sake of the many decent fans I've come across including those on here, that you turf the owners out and come back stronger. Good luck.

Nice words from all which are appreciated.
I've been an Oldham fan since 1976 and like Attila I have seen all divisions, and our fantastic Fa cup semi finals and league cup final.
I come from a long generation of fans and those that have long gone will be turning in their graves today.
So a sad sad day for me, I shed a tear when we dropped out of the prem and I have tears in my eyes writing this.

But anyway well done to Barra and Stevenage, you deserve to stay up, you earnt it. Being based in Workington I know many Barra and Carlise fans so I will be looking out for your results next season.
Well done to FGR too on your promotion, proves that having a decent owner is better than having a few thousand more fans and richer history, that all counts for nothing. And good luck to all the other teams with things still to play for.

I don't know when or if we will return, that will be down to AL selling up and letting others who know what they are doing take over.
But for now ( hopefully not long ) good bye and good luck to all league 2 fans on here.

Disappointing to lose Oldham. Another proper EFL club gone.

But fair play to Phil brown and barrow. Looking at those fixtures a week ago, coupled with your form I did think you looked doomed. To get 2 wins and a draw from these 3 games is some going. Assume he’ll be in pole position to be manager next season now?

Stevenage I always thought would stay up with their favourable run of games.

One nice thing this season has been the supportive comments from fans of other clubs. Doesn’t make it any easier to stomach but is appreciated so thank you.

Can’t quite believe I’ll be supporting a team in non league next season but the writing has been on the wall for a while now. Like other posters, I won’t be back at Boundary Park now until the current clowns in charge have gone as hard as that will be.

Well done to Barrow and Stevenage - found the right form at the right time. Hopefully we’ll be back soon but sadly think things get worse before they get better.

Commiserations to any Oldham fans reading, I was dreading the prospect of being relegated so I know it won't feel good right now. The conference isn't too bad, it may take a few seasons but I have no doubt you'll be back in the Football League at some point, a decent club like yourselves won't stay down for long.

He'll get the job. We've been warned about his transfer windows though. I'd much rather approach someone up and coming from the National League like Pete Wild, natural step up from a tinpot outfit like FC Halifax Supermarine. However, we really need a summer where a manager has seen the end of one season into the next, and that's about the only positive I can see from Brown at the moment.

Sad to see Oldham go, we’ve had some good battles down the years, Adrian Littlejohn is probably my first memory! He got some stick! Freezing to death on a Tuesday night in August! A fortnight ago you looked like you’d stay up and were far from the worst side we’ve played, caused us more problems at VP than Mansfield, Exeter and Sutton had in the weeks before and looked a half decent outfit.

Fans easily the best to visit us this season by a mile and deserve better. Could easily have been us recently bar 2 very tight escapes but better times under new ownership can happen and hopefully a positive outcome on that front soon to allow you to focus on returning to the EFL.

Best of luck, keep supporting and don’t lose faith, owners come and go but fans last a lifetime and don’t stop the fight. As long as you fans keep fighting you still have a club.

Hopefully we lock horns in the EFL again sooner rather than later.

Stockport County.
Sad for Oldham to drop down to the NL. Their plight reminds me a lot of ours when we came down here. I have faith you can turn things around quicker than we did and at the very least, not end up in the NLN. A proper club I hope brighter times are around the corner very soon.

I wanted to play Oldham next season, ideally in the FL as it's been a while. We still might, albeit in the NL as we are wobbling and getting key players sent off all the time and have a tough final 5 games.
