Radio Slave played some smashing tunes last week. That 2unlimited remix is get a lot of play time this year. Main reason for coming here was to share this though:
Fucking brutal track Have a good weekend all. We're going to a local night this weekend should be good.
I honestly hate the thought of Glastonbury far to big for me. Are you doing any festivals this year? I'm going to boom this year which is fairly big but nothing compared to Gastonbury. Limited to 33k this year and it's quite big site. 7 days in South Portugal and non stop Psy and techno. They do loads of other stuff too and ticket was £100 then the flights on top were £150 so doesn't work out to bad really.
I really like the look of Midnight sun festival for next year but not sure we can afford it. It's in Norway while it's daylight 24/7 and then on the last day I think the sun finally sets. Psy trance again and a lot smaller but Norway's obviously chronically expensive. We'll see.
Seen the line ups for ADE are coming out already but really can't afford it this year.
I'm going Glasto for the first time this year, then the Sunday Creamfields for Prydz. I'm definitely due a trip back to Amsterdam for ADE always have an unreal few days there. Norway is ridiculous isn't it, went to Oslo a few months back and was paying £9 a pint.
Been a long time since I've been to a rave, I wonder if all the tablets are still stopping everyone going to sleep for 3 days.
Enjoy Glastonbury. Are you into bands as well? Make sure to report back. I've not been to Norway for that exact reason how did you find it? I'd love to do the Fjords. This festival is above the arctic circle on an island so it's a massive trek to but I'm hoping because it's a Psytrance festival it will be cheaper once your there. Generally find the food is nice tasting, healthy and cheap.
It's a beautiful setting:
Incredibly tiny to hardly seen a busy dancefloor in any of the festivals so nice bit of room to spread out.
Deepbass has an album out today. Not had chance to listen to it but I expect it's pretty good
Listening to an old album from synth lege's Tangerine Dream and this is fantastic, ambient and modern. You wouldn't believe its from 1974.
Second piece from the same album, there is a lot of Jarre's Oxygene in this one - did he use this as inspiration for his own legendary album a few years later?
Survived the muddiest Glastonbury on record and also never lost my sanity in the horrendous traffic jams on the way down there (7 hours to do 2 and a half miles). In terms of bands, I'm ashamed to admit that I went to see Coldplay... and actually thought they were good! ELO were also a class act.
Thought most DJs were pretty average but caught Carl Cox doing a 3 hour set. He was quality as ever and was a joy to watch. Lots of "Goldbars" floating about, would recommend.
Would deffo recommend the festival for anyone thinking of going who hasn't been before.
Not had the internet for a few weeks and not had a chance to sit down and listen to much lately. Having a nice session today though love this from Alix Perez and Skeptical. Rest of the EP isn't to my taste though.
Flying out for Boom festival tomorrow. Six days and nights of psy trance, Techno and everything in between. Been waiting two years for this. 38c there today though.....
Got back from Boom last Friday. Had a great time as always but I always go back a bit more prepared which makes it slightly more comfortable. We were camping for 8 days in the end and god knows what the temperature topped out at some days but it was easily over 35c and even the nights were warm for the first few days.
The level of effort that they go to is always amazing especially with the price that they charge (€110). They completely rebuild the various stages every year (Mostly from recycled stuff) and again they all looked pretty impressive. The main stage looked a bit understated initially to me compared to last year but when I was looking at a photo one night I noticed that it was a snakes mouth from the outside and inside but also the way the material was laid out on the inside it also made a 3d like image of snakes body looking like it was going to pounce. A bit like those old books you'd buy as a kid where you have stare and then it pops out at you. I probably big it up a bit to much but when I saw it all of a sudden and realised myself and many others could have gone all week without seeing that it made me really start to love what they were trying to do. The festival is full of little details like this from the massive wooden shaman they built and Video Mapped to little touches all around the festival. Full credit to the design teams cause it is a celebration of psychedelic art they must love being able to do things on this scale.
As for the music.... They work each time with funktion one directly to build the soundsystems and they were so loud but so clear. They turned it up one night and that felt a bit to intense at times but it was back down the following the day so obviously they thought they'd try to push it up. The music ran between 10pm one night until 6pm the following day with a 4-5 hour gap. They had two full 24 hours of music on the first and last days. One of the problems festivals here face is noise restraints and it's clearly not a problem for them.
When we went to the last Boom in 2014 I was still indifferent about Psy trance as a whole and we seemed to split our time between the psy tent and the Techno/alternative tent. Coming into this one I'd been listening to a lot more normal Psy Trance although I couldn't say that I loved it like my GF does. I'd also been listening to dark/forest psy a lot more which I'd not really heard before or found a bit extreme previously. I can say after this Boom that I love Forest psy Trance. It's so much more dark and brooding than the "straight" stuff and much more stripped back. It doesn't mess about, the beat is consistent, it's very similar to techno in my opinion just faster and different synths. We got into a cycle of getting up around 1-2am as this stuff was mainly played at night into the early hours and some of the moments that I had during those periods will stay with me for a long time especially as I was basically experiencing and hearing completely new sounds to me. I loved the crowd during this period too as there was a lot more room and they were generally a bit crustier. As the days went on the music went a bit wishy washy including a day of goa which nearly bored me compared to what I'd heard earlier. The final morning was probably my favorite as we'd got to know a few people by then although I hadn't spoken to them they'd been out at the same times in the same area and they also seemed to stretch the dark stuff out until mid-day as it it was the final chance for those that liked that style. After nearly dying in the sun trying to sleep in the chillout gardens that afternoon we decided not to bother with the closing of the music at Midnight and watched the Sunset over the lake for one last time.
Other than Via Axis and Scorb I didn't know a single DJ/Act that I actually caught throughout the week. If you want to check out some Dark/Forest psy and some that bridged the gap then I really recommend listening to these guys most of whom did a live set:
Dust
Drip Drop
Magik
Nargun
Derango
Archaic (My personal highlight from the festival)
Hutti Heita
Evocatone
Janux
Govinda
Earthling
Lucas
This is from last time but he was brilliant this time too.
:tldr I know. Off to Blueprint in Stuido Spaces this weekend to get some techno Lekker, Ruskin, DVS1, Silent Servant, Regis, Klock and Jeff Mills. Should be a pretty good bump back to earth.
