I like to pile beans on top of the pie with a mountain of mash placed sloppily beside.
Oooh that sound spectacular! Never been one for pies or pasties, but right now after a few drams, I could just about do with one of these right now!

When he says questionable meat Pagnell means mutton and when he says vile he means delicious.

There probably is lard in it.
Lard is the best when it comes to frying real chips....

Aberlour is decent stuff mate, very sherried. Is it the 12 or the 10 yo? The smell of it is lovely, caramel toffee, raisins, dark chocolate and cherries amongst others. A bit spicy and oaky on the taste and sweet so maybe a dash of water in it to soften it up depending on your palate. I got the Aberlour A'bunadh there and opened it up over Christmas as it's basically a liquid Christmas cake, and really enjoy it though it's an occasional whisky and too rich to be drunk regularly imo.

The bottle itself is also quite nice if you are into that sort of thing. He'll enjoy it I'm sure. :)

Nice computer snortingfrogs, I got mine last year and can't believe the difference from my old one. Its great.

Want to try some world whiskies so got myself a bourbon, and a Japanese whisky. First up the bourbon - Four Roses Small Batch.

brbon_fou7.jpg

Wasn't planning on buying a Japanese whisky in specific, and I'm always put off with the size of the Japanese bottles (500ml instead of 700ml), but I got a smell of the nose of it when at the vintners, and my it smells bloody delicious!! :D

The "recently purchased" thread (AKA I just bought this)" Thread popped up at the main page with a new Saltire post. Although I already knew what he just bought without looking :D I clicked it nonetheless and was totally surprised that Salty bought a new whisky :D. Sorry....wanted to write "bought a japanese whisky". I thought you were a traditionalist and buy only scottish whisky? Or do you already bought all sorts? :D

(maybe I should do similar and buy a dutch beer? ;) )

First time for everything, including yourself trying Heineken eh mate? :P

I'm not a whisky snob, and want to experience whiskies from all over the world (well apart from the English Whisky, that I won't ever ever touch you understand! ;) ). There's a couple of Indian, Taiwanese and Tasmanian whiskies that are meant to be absolute beauties, so will eventually get round to testing them out. The girl who served me at the vintners said that though she loves whisky, her two faves came from Japan and freckin' Wales! If that Jap whisky she recommended is half as good on the taste as it is on the nose, I'll let her off!

Down the line I want to try more bourbons, tequila's, mezcal's, rum's, brandies, port's, madeira and a few specific wines; which will all help me hone my craft and pleasure in enjoying the whiskies. I really enjoy it, and there is always something new to learn - though I am finding out it is an expensive hobby; I probably have about £1500 worth of whisky sitting on my shelves now! Was tempted by a Bunnahabhain tonight when out shopping at Morrison's, but manage to stop myself - it was the last one on the shelf, and it was crying out to me - I held my ground though! :P

Ok mate, I'll look it out, I heard good stuff about Four Roses (hence why I bought it, and it was actually going cheap at Marks & Spencer's of all places!), Woodford Reserve, Eagle Rare and Elijah Craig; but that's another one I'll try one of these days. It is very different to some whiskies though, sharper, very sweet, and very spicy, with a punchy vanilla cream and cinnamon finish; a wee tad of water tones it down well though.

Of course, I understand ;)

btw:

My favourite Rock version of this traditional. Was a very young boy (10 ) when Thin Lizzy performed this version live at popular German TV Music show "Musikladen" in 1973
Rest in peace, Phil Lynott.

I know it's irish "Whiskey" but ....."in Whisk(e)y we trust", eh?

edit: yt video was deleted. Changed it with another version of the Musikladen.

Wasn't sure where to put this, but anyone have any opinions on TV Beds? I've never really even thought about them before.

Reason being, in my bedroom at the new place it's got a window right ahead of where I'd look to put the TV so that's not feasible and I don't want to put it on a cabinet thing at the end of the bed because it'd look naff.

Another option I was thinking of was putting it flat against the wall in the corner but have it on some sort of swing arm, tilting, pull out TV bracket similar to the below. But then you've got to deal with cables and potentially a little bit of wall conduit and I'm not sure on that.

It's not the be all and end all about a TV in the bedroom really, but I was just going through different options.

Why don't you make a huge hole in the wall and stick the TV in there? Like they have at the Hilton. Or the Marriott.

Test run wouldn't do any harm. Is it a beamer you have at the moment ?

Aye a 330. Really like it but have been thinking I was going to get a new car within a year or two anyway once I'd moved. With this happening now though I may look to getting a new car sooner. It's between another Beemer or a Merc.
