Don’t forget our League Cup trophy as well from 2011 when we beat you along the way, the only trophy in Birmingham now that is not encased in a thick layer of dust and cobwebs from when you won all of yours back when Queen Victoria was on the throne.
being a villa fan I'm a great historian, so let me put you right sir... Since the wars we won 1 fa cup, 5 league cups, 1 league title and yep I'm bored of saying it too, the European cup. Not man united by any chance, but not as dusty as some of our other cups.

Odds have sharply dropped on Dyche. No way in hell, and the bloke would be fucking bonkers to make the move. Not that I'd complain...

Steve Bruce it is - will want a good start or the Birmingham connections might be brought up!

That'll do me, we couldn't have realistically expected anyone better.

Guess we can't sing 'sit down potato head' any more. Perhaps 'we've got potato head'?

Brucie, this is a proper football club, not some tin pot club like your used to managing. Welcome aboard.

McClaren on the way back to Derby, it would seem.

With Chris Powell as no. 2, Macca wants a DoF side to his role too.

I don't think he'll have anywhere near the same effect as last time, he was just what we needed. He's got a job on though, in a lot worse shape than we were when he left. Am I happy? Not overly but will back him to the hilt if he's appointed. He should get the best out of our current squad unlike the last few in his absence.

It all went wrong last time when he started bringing in a series of loans.

Maybe stay away from the loan market this time Stevie...

Not quite sure you could blame his loan signings... Bent, 12 in 20, Ince 11 in 18. Not to mention Thorne, Wisdom, Dawkins, Butland, Mascarell and Bamford who were all brilliant loan signings previous. I'd blame the flirting with joining another club without fully committing to the task at hand. Coupled with losing Chris Martin, George Thorne and believe it or not.. Jake Buxton to serious injuries. And Lee Grant throwing them in the net definitely didn't help.

Hopefully he'll have learnt his lesson in loyalty, as soon as the Newcastle talk began we dropped off massively. He probably won't have learnt how to defend but at least it'll be exciting again with some high scoring games. Rather that that 3 fucking goals in 9 games.

I stuck a quid on him at 33/1 as he was on that original short list that got released and thought why not.

Absolutely, he'd have been fucking stupid to take it though.

Well Graham Taylor got us promoted in 98 and 99 after coming back but that was 10 years after leaving and he was a god already.

 Actually tempting to stick money on Derby to go down now. He'll destroy this side even more, like he did a Newcastle team which shouldn't have really gone down last season.

Derby fans are quite happy with the appointment on their forum. Stinks of desperation to me.

I'd say it's 60/40 in favour.

Desperation or maybe just a good fit for the club?
Bit of both, we need someone who's going to work with what we've got and not try and undo everything good that we have to offer.

It all went wrong after he started flirting with Newcastle, but that doesn't erase the fact it all went very right the first 18 months. Certainly better than making Powell permanent

I don't think bringing McLaren back is as mad as some people make out.

A bad collapse at the end but the majority of his spell there saw good football and results.

The appointment just seems a little lazy.

It seems Derby are playing it safe with his appointment. That in itself is not a bad thing because who else was out there for them to seriously have a chance of appointing?

Never saw this comeing. Newcastle were appalling under MacLaren and must have had one of the most expensive squads to get relegated but in his defence the regime who signed players MacLaren did not want never helped. Structures changed for benetez thank God otherwise team could have sank further with more white comeing n from the continent
