Incorrect. Trick or treating (or the premise of it, of not the actual phrase) has been around in the UK far longer than America.

Don't mind it myself. Don't take mine to do it, though.

I don't want them to get high on E hidden in sweet wrappers...

This whole fall out about wearing a poppy. If somebody wants to wear it, fine, if somebody doesn't then that is their prerogative.

Personally, I don't wear one. Not because I have no respect for those who have died for this country but because it's a symbol for the armed forces and the illegal wars that have been waged over the last 10-15 years.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
It's turned into a bit of a religion, hasn't it? Every year there's furious anguish from some old duffer looking sad in the paper because the local supermarket has BANNED him from collecting. Despite it being September and him having attacked the guys collecting for the local orphanage with his walking stick.

There was some lad in the paper who was SACKED for wearing a poppy (in August).

It's a good cause, clearly, but there are other good causes and that one doesn't deserve special treatment.

I wear a poppy every year without fail and attent a rememberence service in town. I don't think of those who fought in recent wars as much as they chose to join the army. I do remember those from WW1 and WW2 as the majority had no choice after being called up,without those brave men we'd all be talking German right now. I also remember both of my grandads, one was a mechanic at Biggin Hill and was killed during an air raid, the other survived after fighting in North Africa and Italy, he started out as a private and by the end of the war was a Captain. He never spoke of the war and it wasn't until he died in 1995 i saw his array of medals.

I certainly understand why people wear them and it doesn't bother me but if somebody doesn't want to then let them be. James McLean has a very good reason not to wear one and fair play to him for not bowing to public pressure.

That is so wrong, the poppy is not, and has never been, a symbol of the armed forces. It is a symbol of remembrance for those that died
serving their country. People who gave their lives so you have the choice to honour them or not.

The bit about illegal wars and all that bollocks you need to take up with the politicians, not the soldiers.

Does the poppy recognise Isis? Like the British ones.

It's a symbol for soldiers who have died, therefore, it is a symbol for the British Army.

No one has to wear a poppy, it's entirely up to them. They don't need to give a reason. But to not wear one then to say it's because you view a poppy as a symbol of approval for some crap war politicians decided we should take part in is fucked up logic.

No it's not. What about all the Commonwealth soldiers that that died, the Australians, South Africans, Canadians, Indians (Sikhs and Muslims) that during WW1 all wore their countries uniforms but fought for our country. Next thing you'll be telling me you won't wear it because it's a symbol of Imperialist oppression.

Look, I have no problem with you not wearing a poppy. That, as said, is your choice. Just make sure the reason you have for not wearing it is right, and not the shite you've posted above.

By your logic I should wear one because my reason not to isn't good enough. You're basically saying my opinion is wrong.

i have no problem with somebody wearing one I just don't want it thrust in my face every time somebody chooses not to. I also don't want to wear something that has become a badge of honour for racist idiots.

Woah there. I never said your reason isn't good enough. I never said you are wrong. I said your reason was wrong. You said you thought a poppy is a symbol of the British Army and a symbol of illegal wars. It's not, that's the bit that's wrong.

I'll say again, it's your choice not to wear a poppy. A choice given to you by men and women who fought and died so you can have it.

The poppy is a political symbol and has evolved from its original purpose. I'll raise a toast to the old boys but all these tools that are in the army currently can get fucked.

I'm an award winning war poet, so wind your fucking neck in, ok pal? Or do you want me to turn up at your house with a punnet full of knuckle sandwiches? I'm up for it if you are son, so let me know. Big time Charlie, small shoe size, know what I mean.

If it was only a symbol for WW1 & WW2 then I'd wear one.

Pretty much how I feel. You can't choose to do something in life, get paid decent money for it and then moan that pro-footballers get paid more than you whilst you're out 'protecting the country'.

Slaphead = anti-semite? Because the subtext of his comment seems quite clear to me.
