wearing a poppy or a help for heroes wristband is something that any decent human being regardless of race religion creed or colour should be recognized as a sign of thanks and gratitude to those who gave life and limb so that people could have that choise to do so if they wished to. Lest we forget!!

Channel 4 Newsreader John Snow refuses to wear one every year but i don't think the less of him for it, it's his choice and i respect that but what i despise is people slagging me off for wearing a poppy. I have a few very good reasons for wearing one that is my own business which i won't bore you with on here.

Who is slagging you off?

Poppies remind me of the poor adults and children forced to work in the poppy fields of Afghanistan, procuring the ingredients necessary to make HEROIN. They make me think of the haunted individuals addicted to this awful, awful drug - and the horrible acts they often end up performing just to get another fix.

Every time I see someone stroll down the street with a poppy on his breast and a smug smile on his face I see a supporter of child labour, slave labour, drug use, drug abuse, needle sharing, and, overall, complete and utter degradation in all forms.

You poppy-wearing sickos make me sick to my stomach and you should all be ashamed.

Why did you put your post through Google Translate from English into Norweigan and back again?

Err no. The guys that HFP are helping didn't do fuck all for our right to wear a poppy, what utter twaddle.

You can feel as sick as you choose to Stevencc but this is why I choose to wear a poppy twice a year and it has fuck all to do with child labour.
From its association with poppies flowering in the spring of 1915 on the battlefields of Belgium, France and Gallipoli this vivid red flower has become synonymous with great loss of life in war.

The poppy has gone a bit too commercial for my liking.

I can't tell you how touched I was when I heard that the Boston Red Sox baseball team had mowed a large version of our sacred symbol of martial sacrifice into the outfield at Fenway Park. What an amazing demonstration of the enduring power of the 'Special Relationship', I thought.

Turns out I had misunderstood completely though.

That'll be the same James McLean that turns his back when the National Anthem is being played. Sensitive soul wee Jamsie....
He's a republican so why should he respect the national anthem? I don't. He's well within his rights to not wear a poppy or sing the national anthem. It would be strange if he did.

I didn't say he should wear a poppy ( I'm not the sort of person who would tell any person that they should) & I wouldn't expect an Irish Republican to sing the British National Anthem but surely he could have stood as his team mates did whilst it was being played without turning his back to show his dislike. Funnily enough he obviously doesn't mind taking the British pound for his footballing labours.

We didn't feel the need to wear them years ago, why is the constant clamour there to wear them now, and the accusations of shame from those that choose not to?
What is the problem with them being worn. People don't want to, fine....but there seems to be an outrage with people actually wearing them.

I think it would be a good thing if everyone who was upset about James McClean not wearing a poppy was drafted into a war and was killed.

A family on my street put up their Christmas decorations two days ago. I wouldn't go as far as to say I hate them for it but I was surprised and a little sickened when I saw them.

I wouldn't say I'm a curmudgeon (although I am) but that is fucking ridiculous. I hope you went around and had some harsh words.

Our deccies & tree will be put up on the Sunday before Christmas. I may hum some carols as the wife and I unwind the fairy lights and extract baubles & tinsel from the bauble and tinsel box.

If it was up to me the tree and decs would go up mid December. But the wife (and by association, the kids) insist on doing it the first weekend of December. I let them get on with it and watch TV with a beer.
