You'll go for the holy trinity of Mahrez, Vardy and Drinkwater. 150mill ought to do it.

Worked out well enough last time they played with Kante

We should probably give you an extra thirty million for him considering how cheap he cost compared to what he'd be if we got him this season.

I think that would be the honourable thing to do.

I'm surprised others aren't going in for Mahrez. I kind of hoped we would've tried to get him with a bigger offer by now.

Carvalho not going to West Ham so they're looking at signing N'Dong from Sunderland instead

Barca have pretty much signed Dembele so unlikely they'll also go for Coutinho now?

Dembele to Barca confirmed for £110m plus addons. Surely the end of their Coutinho interest.

You'd probably have to upset your wage structure, you tight gits.

I think they need some more creativity from midfield regardless of the Neymar replacement they've got in Dembele but the financial aspect of it might cause them to cool their interest in Coutinho. On the other hand, they must've known the deal for Dembele was wrapped up when they put in the latest Coutinho bid so I think in an ideal world for them they'd get both.

I don't think they can afford to go for both. Poor Coutinho, told Barca to try again the other day and they ignored him; oh well, he'll just have to settle for CL with Liverpool, what a shame.

Yup. And to be fair the reported £130m+ Coutinho bid, even with the addons, would still mean only circa £50m net spend after the Neymar sale.

It'll all be forgotten about by club, fans, player and manager in about two weeks time before starting up again next season.

You'll have done well to keep him and also done the right thing for your chances of success, I think.

I think they are in a poor state financially though, so I can't see them coming back with another big bid of, what, £150 mill now?

They won't give a fuck. No one would have blinked an eye if they'd have bought a player for £50m without selling Neymar and that is in effect what they would be doing.

Barca get Dembele, I think Liverpool fans can collectively utter a sigh of relief. FWIW, I think Liverpool have made the right move keeping Coutinho and not taking the crazy transfer fee. He is not worth £100 million, but to Liverpool's success this season and future seasons attempting to qualify for the Champions league, he's essential. He is worth the investment to Liverpool right now.

Pogba is looking more and more like a bargain with every passing ridiculous transfer fee.

No, he's just looking less overpriced. To call it a bargain in the context of how much £80m was last summer is stretching it to say the least.

Poor Coutinho is 'very low' just now. I feel for the lad sitting there on his 150k a week refusing to play and his team struggling as they are. Shame. :shifty:

Buying your own player back who you let go for nought will never be considered a bargain.

Yes it will. £90m already looks cheap for a player of Pogba's quality. Juve would want something closer to £150m were they selling him this summer.

But they aren't. They sold him last summer when £90 million was still classed as fucking extortionate.

Lucky we signed him last season then.

I've pointed this out numerous times. Don't waste your breath.
Letting Pogba go was one of our biggest mistakes in recent history. Resigning him was one of our best pieces of business in recent history.

Except the two are intrinsically linked, and the said link renders your claimed "best pieces of business" a complete fallacy. It wasn't necessarily wrong to re-sign him, but claiming it was a bargain is frankly complete bullshit.

Not they aren't, both statements can be true. It was a mistake for the previous manager and CEO to let him go, but it was absolutely right for the new manager and CEO to rectify that monumental mistake and get him back.

So a club gives away a player and that same club buys him back for £90m four years later and there is no link? Righto.

Ofcourse there's a link. Doesn't mean that "Letting him go was a mistake" but "Realizing we made a huge mistake and resigning him is a great bit of business" can't both be true.

Then we disagree. United can certainly realise that they made a mistake and buying him back to rectify that mistake could end up being a sensible choice. But given what they paid to get him back combined with the fact they effectively gave him away in the first place for fuck all, it can't also be "a great bit of business".

Round in circles though mate.

Agree to disagree then. I certainly see it as a great bit of business that we managed to get him back, from a footballing pov and a commercial one.

He hasn't even achieved anything at United yet so struggling to see how the 2nd/3rd most expensive player EVER can be consider a bargain/great bit of business on that basis alone.

Indeed, hence my comment that it could end up being the sensible choice. But he hasn't done much to justify his cost yet.
