Loving the thread on Saintsweb. Full of Southampton fans calling Liverpool a shithole and pretending they don't care.

Southampton fans have turned into a real strange, bitter bunch, going by 1FF anyway.

To give a smidgen of fairness to them, it must be annoying to lose their best players so regularly, and particularly given that an inordinate amount of them appear to end up at Anfield.

My view has always been to get rid of players that don't want to be at the club, especially if good money is involved. Players like Suarez and Alonso moving to Spain didn't overly bother me, good money for both at the time and both wanted out. My view on Coutinho is no different. Even Torres to Chelsea didn't bother me that much, we got far more than he was worth and he turned out to be a shit buy for the money they paid (unfortunately, buying Carroll for us with the money received turned out even worse).

As for Van Dijk. He doesn't want to be there and £75m is more than he is worth. Providing the money is used for the team (which is a big if to be fair) then they have gotten rid of a player who wanted out, and who wasn't playing particularly well, for a world record fee given his position. No big cause for bitterness in my view. They just need to hope he turns out more Lovren than Mane whilst we hope for the opposite.

75mill is more than he's worth when you think what you could have from overseas. But if that fee doesnt stop them spending more on defenders and mids, then who cares?
I'd be throwing the cash at Serie A for Manolas, Koulibaly among others. Even have a dabble for Donnarumma while I'm in Italy!

100% of that better go into the team in January.

A chunk of it goes to Celtic first I gather? Even so it'll leave Saints with plenty of money, if they can just spend it wisely. The problem of everyone knowing they have cash won't help.

I agree with everything in that post but this did bother me a lot. I don't know what it was with Torres, aside from it being to a rival. It just fucking sucked.

Hopefully it'll turn into a good deal for all parties but I'm glancing more and more towards the American set up with wage caps. It can't continue like this forever because given the rules of the game, each league will be dominated by one team. I pray they come up with another solution than a European super league, as it would merely postpone the problem. But it could also be the only way to actually implement a wage cap -- the thirty biggest clubs in Europe, closed league, that's it.

I don't know. Each and every huge against the selling club's will transfer kind of gets me down.

Klopp? He signed 9 players in his third season with Dortmund to build the skeleton of the side that he wanted and had success with it. He's doing the same here. There are players he can work with already here and he's done that, but sometimes you just need to go out and buy and when there's a weakness in a fundamental position like CB then he's had fork out a lot of money to get whom he wants.

He said that about United after they bought Pogba. For a mere £14m more than we have just spent. Yes, sometimes you need to spend but clearly he's changed his mind. And let's be honest, has been a bit of a hypocrite.

I'm cautious about VvD as I was with Salah.
Salah proved me wrong, I hope VvD will do the same.

VVD officially becomes a Liverpool player today. Strictly speaking, I suppose he could play against Burnley but I reckon Everton during the week in the cup will be his first outing.

I thought it was that you have to be registered 24 hours in advance.

Same thing really, but yeah, that would certainly stop him playing today. Although there is no way Klopp would have played him anyway this close to the signing and without seeing his fitness levels and at least a couple of training sessions.

Officially unveiled this morning. He's got a lot to live up to, I just hope he's good enough to do it. He will get a little time to settle in but he needs to hit the ground running for that price.

Klopp will work on his fitness and getting him back sharp first. After that he'll need to work with him on what he wants him to do in the side. I expect him to do ok the remainder of this season and then start seeing the best out of him for next term once he's fully settled.

Our main striker target has just scored for Leicester...

Probably won't be leaving then!

Capoue linked with West Ham - cannot see him being a Moyes type player!

I think he'll want him to defend.

It's not just about that though otherwise we'd have seen Ward in goal sometime this season too. He'll want VVD to bring the ball out and pass it directly to the forwards more as well.

Is there a rule saying a player can't play the same day of registration? Not heard it but wouldn't surprise me.
Well we've been told all season that Silva wont be available til Jan 2nd cos you can't play the same day as you register.
Yet he's come off our bench with 5 minutes to go!?
