Sadio Mane being linked to Real Madrid.

Liverpool pulled our pants down in that £34m deal. :(

I remember at the time you lot saying he was too inconsistent and were more than happy to get 34 mill for him.

Add consistency to Mane, which will probably come as he gets older and he'll be one of the best attacking midfielders in the league. He certainly is on his day.

I'd be disappointed if he left us for a club outside of the Champions League, as that's his level. While in today's market many Saints fans are saying they'd hope for at least £30m for him, and I'd agree. Other than Schneiderlin we haven't sold a better player since we came back up here.

That’s what I said.

And you got your money's worth for him. Before the market went mad last season, £34 mill for a forward was a significant outlay, especially for us whose record signing at that time was still Carroll at £35 mill. And I remember a lot of our fans being quite miffed about paying all that for him, and that he looked to be our star signing that window.

He has went up a level though in the two years he's been here, that may not have happened at Saints, so we both did good business out of that deal Harv.

Still funny that we replaced Mane with a Championship standard player in Nathan Redmond.

Well done Les Reed, you fat bald c***.

I wouldn't mind losing him if we get a bucketload, like Coutinho-money. He's by some distance the easiest to replace of the three and he's better on the right than on the left. I think Klopp with say £130m could do much better than just Mané.

But they'll probably offer £55m and we'll say no and that'll be that, if anyth ... Wait, will he kick up a fuss? I don't remember which former Saints did and which ones didn't aside from Lovren who was the worst apparently.

You should sign Justin Kluivert & Ritsu Doan to replace Mane. Pass that onto Klopp mate.

Other than turning up late a few times, which forced Koeman to start him from the bench in the famous Southampton 3-2 Liverpool match, which I don’t think was linked to angling for a transfer I believe Mane’s transfer was okay. Other than him going to Liverpool of course.

It’s Lallana (who won’t ever get a bigger move than Liverpool), Lovren (same as Lallana) and Van Dijk who are the bad bunch. The latter took the crown for being the worst offender, as he completely gave up playing for half of last season.

It really does look like Wolves are instantly selling Afobe onto Stoke after about 3 days :surr:

I guess if it's happening, it's presumably above board and legal? Perhaps Wolves haven't actually registered him with either PL or FL and thus it doesn't count as his registration moving twice in one window? No idea.

From what we're hearing, it turns out Wovles were in fact obligated to buy Afobe if they went up, a clause stuck into his loan. Except their manager Nuno Santo doesn't actually want him for the PL (and I can understand that), so he's turned around and asked his recruitment people to move Afobe on again.

Bottom line for us is we got a decent price for a player who didn't really want to be here. I just hope for his sake that Afobe was aware of this possibility, otherwise that's pretty scummy, seeing as he was desperate to specifically return to them in the first place.

I was more excited about the Lallana transfer before he was a shit to Southampton. I lost a lot of love for him after that.

Much the same with VVD though I'll admit time (but mainly his performances) have healed those wounds.

I'm a fickle, fickle man.

Agree if it's all true it's really shit on Afobe and it hasn't gone down well with the fans. The decision to sign Afobe for the PL was split 50/50 (I personally didn't want him in this league). Still to sign someone and then sell him a few days later back to the Championship seems quite distasteful.

It makes sense what you said about the buyout clause. I can't understand why Fosun would run the risk of signing a player only to 'chose' to sell him on a few days later to make a small profit.

We really have an absurd amount of history regarding this you have to say. Let’s hope Mané keeps his head down then if Real don’t meet our valuation.

The first of Wolves big money targets seems to have turned us down in Cancelo. First of many no doubt.

Shiquiri to Liverpool I've heard from a mate who heard it from someone who knew someone else who said it down the pub.

That rumour seems to be making the rounds, I think Shaqiri still has plenty to offer. With better players around him I think he'd be handy for anyone in the league. Especially at the £12 touted.

Also seen Liverpool linked with the world's fastest dwarf in Moses Simon. Whoever he is.

Whenever I've seen Stoke this season Shiquiri had always impressed. Too good for the Championship. Good backup I reckon, as long as he doesn't expect to be an automatic starter.

If Klopp can improve Shaqiri as much as he has improved every other attacking player then he'll be a fine choice off the bench, especially leaving money for us to strengthen elsewhere. It screams moneyball but I suppose it got us here so have at it.

Doesn't make sense to me. One of the laziest, most selfish players I've seen. Doesn't fit with the high tempo pressing style of Liverpool at all. Maybe worth the gamble at that price if Klopp thinks he can completely change the blokes attitude.

This is definitely the big but. He's very much a MOTD player, turns it on when he feels like it then is a passanger most of the time.

However, what we need is someone to cover for Mané and Salah. And when you're buying someone who's going to get limited game time, it's a good thing to buy from the same league as they won't need the time on the pitch to adapt. At the price and for the quality he undoubtedly has, it's a good enough transfer (if not especially exciting). You do have to wonder what kind of wages he'll be at, though.

For £12m (if we can get him for that) a 26 year old with his ability is an absolute snip these days. Even taking account his current shortcomings. And that's ignoring the possibility Klopp could eradicate or vastly improve them.

With the amount of games the likes of Liverpool play it would be a great move. Would certainly have been a better attacking option off the bench than Lallana.

Nice one Liverpool, I was underwhelmed when we were being reported as the club moving for Shaqiri, but then he'd have undoubtedly been brought in to be a first team regular for us, rather than a backup option for Liverpool, so different expectations. (We're also in desperate need of pace in our attack, rather than an identical Tadic player.)

I don't know anything about this Moses Simon apart from his middle name is 'Daddy'. However they do say he is similar to a Mane though with a few more rough edges - I'll take that!

Shaqiri is an interesting one. When he was linked with us years back under Rodgers I was all for it, as he looked like he really could become one of the best players around. I think he's made some iffy career decisions since then and flattered to deceive a bit. However as a bench option and for £12 mill, its worth the gamble as if Klopp could get an extra few percent out of him, he could still be a very dangerous player.

It may be a good acquisition at the price for Leicester, but it's a terrible turn for Jonny Evans. Last summer, he was considered a model professional, captain, and a reliable, calm head in defence. He was being touted to fill a gap for Man City or Arsenal.

His head was turned, and then it only took a few months of Pardew to turn this model pro on the cusp of getting to the top level into a taxi thief who didn't even manage to be on a winning team in the whole Premier League season.
