What does Gotze have to do with it tho? Dortmund aren't part of the new PL TV deal and nor are Bayern. This is the new normal in England.

Gotze probably would prefer to go to Dortmund but I feel if we bid the same amount or even a bit more then Munich would prefer to sell to a non-rival and maybe get more money. Gotze would probably be on a better wage too.

It is the English market vs everyone else nowadays, but moreso English clubs buying from other English clubs. I don't think Juve would reject an £86 mil bid from United for Pogba then accept the same amount from Madrid just because English teams get more money.

Oh, I didn't even get that you were on about that. No way would he have gone to Liverpool, surely? (No offence like).

It is at least 10 million less than what we would earn from selling Ibe and Joe Allen.

Eh? This makes no sense. We sold Ibe and Allen for a combined £26m. We are spending that (give or take a mill or two) on Wijnaldum.

What impact did Ibe and Allen have in the team last season? Although I agree Allen improved, he still isn't good enough to be starting CM for us. Also, he only has 1 year left in his contract.

He has one year left on his contract because Liverpool have made no attempt to extend it. As for Ibe I'm still not convinced he's a lost cause and believe some extra faith needed to be shown before giving up on him. And Bournemouth clearly agree that his potential can be tapped with the right work. The bottom line for me is that I'm entirely unconvinced the loss of both Ibe and Allen is worth the acquisition of Wijnaldum. And in effect that is what has happened.

just because he's black

Nope.

Tall (around the same height I believe), strong, powerful in his stride, the positions from which he drives forward etc etc etc.

The only 2 reasons he'd choose us would be Klopp and for the money.

He's made the right choice if ever there was one, I just find it frustrating that we show lack of ambition in trying to get signings like Gotze when he goes for £18MIL especially when we sign a championship player the same day for £25MIL.

We've been raped so many times over the last 5-6 years.

They're nowhere near worth what we paid for recent signings, I just hope klopp can make them play well enough to justify the amount spent (Lallana, Mane etc)

Absolutely right. The only obstacle that he didn't chose Liverpool is that the Reds aren't playing in Europe next season. And Götze needs to play Champions League and must prove that he is still a valuable player for our National Team. He hasn't convinced at the Euro so he must play in Europe.too.
If Liverpool would have played at least in the Europa League then I am sure he would have signed for the Reds (if they made a bid). Both, Kloppo and Mario, like each other . He knows Kloppos Style and he was an ideal player for this style during the days when both won the German Title and the Cup. His transfer to Bayern was a big mistake and now he sees it, too (if you read his latest statement).

Although I am happy that he is now at Dortmund and hopefully will regain his form from before this trade to Bayern I would have liked to see him re-united with Kloppo. And, on a side-note, that would have meant that the Reds had 3 Germans in their squad (besides Can and Karius). But...it shouldn't be.

Yes, the 26 Mio Euro (or 18 Mio Pound as you say) are a cheap buy for him, he's only 24, has already 56 caps and if he can regain his form is a good choice for any team

Suppose so, forgot about Klopp. I guess we don't know about whether players have been sounded out by other clubs. He could have been asked if he was interested, said no, and Liverpool accepted that. (Or, as you say, Liverpool might not have shown any ambition to sign him in the first place). I think you're in a tricky position outside the CL, and Firmino-type signings are your best bet going forward, rather than wasting your time going for Gotze-types (if he wouldn't have considered it). As for the fee, I'm still not sure you're massively overpaying tbh. Not that I know much about Wijnaldum (increasingly clear I don't know much about anything).

I think Klopp liked him at the beginning and gave him plenty of chances. But clearly Klopp and his coaching staff don't think he is good enough for us. If we want to seriously challenge for top 4 we need better players than Ibe. He can't cross or beat a man.

With regards to Allen, where would Allen play? Klopp didn't even fancy him when Henderson was out for majority of the games last season. We have hendo, can, grujic, milner who all want to play CM but can also play in other positions well enough. And all 4 would start ahead of Allen. Again, another player who isn't good enough to start for us but will be a starter/good addition for teams like Stoke. We also have good young players in the academy who need to get some first team opportunity.

The cult of personality around Klopp is at full strength. Typical timing for 'Pool fans.

Jose still in the honeymoon period with you guys. Wait till he starts his moaning and your fan base will split into factions soon enough once again.

Who else scored 2 goals against us last season? (Mane and Gigi did, must have a great scouting team)

Lukaku linked for a return to Chelsea, maybe to prove something he never had time to do before?

Liverpool are confident of sealing a deal for Aston Villa left-back Jordan Amavi, reports Le Parisien.

The France U21 international only moved to Villa Park last summer and is contracted to the Championship club until the end of June 2020.

I think Firmino will turn out to be a good signing. He was pretty good in the 2ND half of last season and he's looked good in pre-season.

I hear you about those types of signings. I think we should go for players who are in a similar position to us as a club with the odd gem in their ranks, Draxler at Wolfsburg as an example. I'm sure if we threw £50MIL at one big signing it'd be better than buying 2-3 big money mediocre signings. It may even attract other top players to join.

As it is, I fully expect us to finish 6th at highest.

Ibe + Allen = Wijnaldum.

It's these types of purchases that put pressure on the manager and player to succeed right away.

I wanna know about Arsene transforming Gooners into a passing team and preventing injuries. You still not got back, I ain't mad, I just think it's fucked up you don't answer fans.

Let's just ignore they sold Gundogan, Hummels and Mkhitaryan that have financed the majority of these purchases though of course.

In his haste to post about Manchester United, G-Dragon forgot a vital part of the posting process...actually having a valid and relevant point to accompany his barbs.

This was on Twitter - anyone know much about him?

"Mario Lemina is close to joining the #BPL, which would be to #Watford or #LCFC"

If United want to toss money at other clubs like CEOs in a strip club then that's up to them.
