Yes it is a concern that we sign these older players (wrong side of 30) especially in the striker roles.
Jamie Cureton at 41 was the most bizarre. He's been on the bench a couple of times and started in a mickey mouse cup game where he scored 4, but other than that, is third sub behind Constable & Ryan Bird.
I'm not hearing we are in for Green, but i understand we are in for a 34 yr old L1 striker who has been there and done it at the higher levels & is still banging them in at that level.

You don't think Constable could be on his way here on loan do you? We're apparently after a striker.

It wouldn't surprise me at all given he has played for you before. Please take him...
Do you need a no.9 who spends most of his time on the floor grappling with defenders trying to win fouls, who does little else other that argue with the Ref for 90 mins?
Up until the last 3 games, he had been starting most of our games, but still hasn't scored a league goal (actually he may have 1 that went in off his ass?).

According to Coops we're in talks with a striker.

James Wallace - former Everton player linked heavily with us. Played for us when we were top of league one but has been blighted by injuries since.

Far better than anyone else in this league but hasn't played much football for 3 years. Would assume we are offering an incentivised contract.

Our manager is currently scrabbling around for a keeper, desperately ringing his contacts to see what they've got.
Joel Dixon out for the season and no proper back-up. Ideally someone not cup-tied either.
It will likely be a Championship or L1 academy keeper, I reckon.

I quite like how we're going for young hungry players rather than the 32 year old money grabbers Eastleigh are signing!!

Rumours are we're getting Brett Williams back on loan......

Really wish we were, he is exactly what we are missing. Someone to wait in the box for the ball to come in and stick it in the net. That said I can't see it happening.

Have you finally figured out that Andy Coughlin isn't good enough even as a back-up? We've just released our back-up keeper Ryan Crump if you're desperate!

He's not played, apart from (I think) in the Lancashire Cup, but it's come to the point where our first choice is injured, and turns out Coughlin has been injured for a few weeks too.

Hughesy will do a job - he's Bobby Knox reincarnated.

Failing that, you/we could do worse than offer to help Morecambe out with a contribution to their wage bill.

So you didn't sign:-
32 yr old Matt Tubbs
34 yr old Sam Russell

Yep, and both show the risks/rewards of paying that bit more for experience. Russell's been brilliant, great shot stopper and having his experience in goal really helps our CB's have confidence in playing it out from the back.

Tubbs hasn't done enough, big money but looks a bit past it tbh.

Basically you got to get it right if you sign experience, they wont have any resale value and they're not likely to improve too much. Get hungry youngsters in cheaper and there's more room for error, they can always improve if coached well plus they'll always be clubs wiling to take them if it doesn't work out.

Isn't Russell a 'keeper? In which case 34 is nothing - he could still play for another 5 or 6 years yet.

As for our 'massive' signing, it's looking likely it's James Wallace. A talent who, if fit, walks into most L1 midfields but whose injury record is awful. Last chance saloon for him methinks.

This was posted on one of our forums via a National League FB group I think.

By the way he plays i imagine he's been injured for the last five years.

Shamir Mullings. Chelmsford have supposedly accepted a £30,000 bid from Forest Green for him.
Interesting, had a poke around their forum and they really rate him, assists as well as goals but as far as I can see the only confirmation is a bid accepted from "an unnamed club" not necessarily us. Had you heard for definite? Know one way or the other soon enough anyhow I suppose.

A local ITK journalist tweeted this yesterday. Interestingly Chelmsford supporters on Nomads said the unnamed club would have transfer restrictions until January so that wouldn't suggest Forest Green.

Gillingham, Luton and Peterborough are reportedly interested in him too.

Mind if I read them right couple of their supporters were under the impression the restriction applied to us too, so might just be mistaken on that score.

No the National Leagues transfer window has gone. So you can sign anyone from any club from the National League and below anytime.

You can sign any player from anywhere, anytime, not just National League and below.
The FL clubs can sell to teams National league and below, but they cannot buy, until the Jan window.
Non league football no longer has a transfer window.
