We've got ex Hereford FC and West Brom academy midfielder Aaron Birch on trial, played against Cirencester in a friendly last night.

Was highly rated at Hereford, linked with moves to Swindon and Bristol City last season. Skillful but a bit lightweight apparently.

Eastleigh looking at 2 new players - they rang up Paul Cox today asking his opinion on them - (that from Paul Cox's post match interview) one of the players was at Mansfield with him - striker Matt Green
Alongside Miller, probably the best striker I've seen in this league since Vardy, but got injuries when he moved to Birmingham didn't he? Above Akinde, Holman and Taylor IMO (although Matty has improved since his Conference days).

Weve already got a more skilful lightweight midfielder in Chemlal who can't get near the starting team at present.

Matty is like a decent claret -- Improves with age ( and going up the divisions )

No way you'll be signing Green until January, wouldn't be surprised to see him leave when Evans makes a few signings. Especially after his best mate Murray has left.

He's a fantastic striker, best I've seen us have since Greenacre, but only if you build your team around him.

So Cox has recommended you sign what would probably be the best striker in this league despite you both challenging at that end of the table?

The only way Green will be leaving here is if Evans decides he does not want him, Which I doubt. Green is an ambitious player and he knows staying here under Evans will be his best shot at playing higher than L2 again.

Or he might be happy to settle for L1 wages and a comfortable life at Eastleigh?
They may be our direct rivals in competition, but in transfer terms, they're a different league. Cox is hardly gonna say that he's shit just to spite them - they'll just go out and spend on someone else.

The same Paul Cox who just signed the best players from everyone in the the Summer of 12/13.

I know you're quite well off but I'd be surprised if you were willing to offer much more than what he's on here for what will be a 30 year old striker in January.

it's Eastleigh that are interested in him not Barrow - we already have 5 strikers including 3 at 6'3" so don't need him...
we beat Eastleigh up 4-0 a few weeks ago...
Eastleigh just wanted Cox's opinion of him

Green is already on more than most L1 players I imagine.

Plus we are under contract negotiations with him still I think.

Nah, that's what I'm saying - Eastleigh can, but we can't come close. It's all down to whether Green is still ambitious and capable, or greedy and in decline (see all of Eastleigh's signings from the League in the past 18 months).

I hear we have signed Russ Penn.

Not until the window opens in January though.
Might be a sign that Ngtwalala has agreed a move.

First I've heard but doesn't definitely Elton is off. I have heard we were signing an ex fan favourite striker and my 2 thoughts were Anthony Malbon or Darryl Knights who is apparently unhappy at Solihull.

He'll no doubt be happy to join up with his mate Keith Lowe. A bit of a shame to see him dropping down the leagues but he was clearly a player in decline while with us.

Then again the way things are going he could be playing a level above us next season if he stays at Kidderminster.

Rumours are we're signing James Wallace from Sheffield Utd. Not sure how I feel about that... fantastic player, far too good for this level when fit, but injuries seem to have dominated the last few seasons of his. Hopefully he'll have something to prove if it turns out to be true

I really hope not. Some of his remarks when he left were ill advised and he's played little football in the last year or so. Dawson already fills the unfit spot in the squad and recent past re-signing of old players like Koumas and Hume not worked out.

If hes available and fit not signing James Wallace would be absolutely mental, i trust Mellon in making the right choice.

Lots of ifs and buts with Wallace. Worth a punt if he's coming on the cheap.

We've started talks to extend Harry Anderson's loan for the full season, which currently ends January 1st.

Needs to be done! Been terrific for us, bar a 3 or 4 game spell where he was benched just to give him a breather.

Yep, him on one side and Arnold on the other, you won't find many better wingers in this league than those two.

Nicky Clee doesn't even need to be in this league to piss all over them both, together.

Yes it is a concern that we sign these older players (wrong side of 30) especially in the striker roles.
Jamie Cureton at 41 was the most bizarre. He's been on the bench a couple of times and started in a mickey mouse cup game where he scored 4, but other than that, is third sub behind Constable & Ryan Bird.
I'm not hearing we are in for Green, but i understand we are in for a 34 yr old L1 striker who has been there and done it at the higher levels & is still banging them in at that level.
