We've got Tyler Harvey on trial. Was at Wrexham for a bit but looks like not for long.

Any opinions?

Audel is very decent. Quick, strong, mobile, can play out from the back, threat at set pieces.

Excellent signing IMO.

saw him in a handful of games but really can't comment as he barely seemed to be involved at all as matches would just pass him by. It wasn't very clear where he was supposed to be playing.
Cannot really tell you any strengths or weaknesses as he was very rarely on the ball.. I don't think anyone was surprised when he was one of the first to be moved on by Keates.

Huge disappointment. Light weight and couldn't exert any influence on the game. Then again he was apparently home sick. Seemed to do ok at Bath.

Ben Tomlinson is training with Halifax and played in the friendly last night, would be a cracking signing for us

We had Tomlinson for a bit not too long back and he was okay, but not great. Didn't look like a goalscorer, more a grafter. Average at best.

Yeah, definitely a grafter - that's what he bases his game on, which is never great when you think about it. Managed 15 yellows and 3 reds in his first season, I think.

He played on the left of a 3 here, so not up front as such and a lot of his goals seemed to come from second balls from set pieces.

Tyrone Marsh could score a few but is another who's attitude lets him down.

Wasn't Meppen-Walter only a bit-part player in Conference North last season? Some very average triallists there.

I've heard we're looking at signing Ben Nugent and maybe bringing back Jobi McAnuff.

Koby Arthur and the keeper in the first half were excellent against Derby's first team players, and 3 or 4 of the defenders who trialled played well. Then there were a number of the usual useless trialists, which included Meppen-Walter, who looked several stone overweight and Storer who appeared to want a fight with every player on the pitch.
We're only going to sign a maximum of 3 or 4 of these people anyway - John Askey loves looking at ridiculous numbers of players every pre-season, with only a few actually signing every year.

He might have been shite when playing for all these other teams, but it's a myth that he was shite for us on loan last season. He started one game in the short spell, away at Tranmere, and was arguably our best performer on the day. He picked up a daft yellow card though, which was his 10th of the season and a two game suspension, and Askey terminated his loan afterward I think.

Yeah, I know how it is when half the team are triallists - we've had pre-seasons where all but a couple of players are on trial. Am I right in thinking it was your first game this summer? We've had three now and the triallists seemed to have mostly been culled now - you might have one or two of them next week!

Yeah, it was our first game of pre-season. We were really good first half when it was signed players plus Gogic, Kerr and Arthur, everyone looked good and we gave Derby's first team a really good game. Then, as the team essentially became solely trialists, we became disjointed and Derby could have had 3 or 4.

I think you're right, we will slowly cull more and more trialists as the pre-season wears on. I'm quite positive about next season though, I think we are building a better team than last season. It's just a shame the league has got a lot harder at the same time.

Same here. Even though we've lost three of our best players, I feel we've probably strengthened overall. But last season we finished in what would now be a play-off position - this year I think we might come up short.

This league is looking extremely competitive this time around. I can see it being very tight from 6th place downwards most of the season. I can't see anyone being cut adrift early doors.

yeah - he picked up some kind of injury that put him out for a bit... interestingly today's paper said trialists who have played in France and Holland played on Tuesday....
Think one was Aussie, Blake Thompson, he played centre back second half also featured late in the game at Boston by all accounts. Played in Holland at Dordrecht.

Can't see you signing Ben Nugent, was very critical of Davis to our rags after he left, Davis froze him out the team for months in his second season with us and it was only Artell who brought him back into the fold...
