We've had Liam Nolan and Ben Wyatt on trial again tonight as well as Regan Booty and an unknown trialist. Aldershot fans - Am I right in saying Booty isn't very highly rated?

Oh dear - was wondering where he was going to end up. You don’t really realise he’s there until he gets the ball and gives a 5 yard pass straight to the opposition. Doesn’t tackle, doesn’t win headers, poor range of passing. We moved him to left back towards the end of the season and he was a bit better but glad we haven’t taken him back here.

Just what I wanted to hear. He was on trial with Bradford before us bizarrely. We only really have room for one more centre mid in my opinion and Liam Nolan seems well-liked wherever he has been so hoping we go for him...

David Fox is back for us on trial again tonight. Presumably he played for someone else on Saturday, but if we could sign him up I'm sure he'll be more than decent in this league.
I'm pretty sure he played the last 30 mins for us on Saturday?

Ah okay - I wasn't there just read that someone else played on trial in midfield. Still, you'd imagine there's league clubs having a look too.

you're probably right - but at 35 many league clubs won't sign him - he was at Blackpool when Ian Evatt was there so that could hopefully swing things our way.

Manchester-based too, so that has to work in our favour.

Alex Nichols formerly of Exeter and Crewe played in our friendly with Swansea last night. Don't think he touched the ball.

He offered little during his time here, aside from when he was played up top. He contributes little overall, but his finishing is lethal and he's an effective goal poacher. The problem is that he continues to be deployed out wide by managers based on his pre-injury days at Walsall when he had pace, but he hasn't been an effective winger for some time. If you put him upfront with someone who can make space for him he'll score a few.

Darren Sarll confirmed last night that contract offers have been made to 5 players. We need extra numbers in midfield in particular.

We had several trialists playing last night including Alex Nicholls, David Moyo and Kyel Reid. Sarll said none of them impressed him. mind you he said none o four players did apart from Stuart Nelson.

Nah its Simon Mensah who was at Wealdstone last season.

I'd have thought Maidstone would have looked at better tbh. Competent enough midfielder at Conny Sarf level but very limited in his game. Godfrey Poku and Christian Smith were far more important in our midfield last season imo.

I'm starting to think our budget was cut a lot more than we expected, so staying full time with a smaller budget is looking like a poor decision right about now. I think we would of been better going back part time and having the pick of better part time players instead of struggling to sign full time ones.

To be honest other than a couple of players I've found our recruitment this summer proper underwhelming.....Still has taken to many risks on unproven and bang average players at this level. Also we currently only have 2 centre midfielders signed & we're proper lacking for options upfront. Yet again we haven't signed any half decent forwards to sort our goal scoring problem. Something we have struggled with since we got promoted out the Ryman League.

So unless we suddenly pull off 3-4 good signings there is no way we will be challenging Havant for the title. I hope I'm wrong but I could honestly see us missing out on the play offs.

Heck our fanbase are already going into full on meltdown mode over not winning any of our pre season games so far and predicting another relegation

This is pretty much a description of where we were 12 months ago. It didn't get better until he was gone. Can't see Still taking you up.

Three more join our merry band of trialists today:

Damien McCrory - Ex-Burton left back
Liam O’Brien - Ex-Dagenham and Coventry goalkeeper
Jim O’Brien - Midfielder we had last season

Kyel Reid has gone but the other trialists are still here. Ardley seems to basically be preparing with the idea of signing them as soon as we can.

I mean just on the basis that he’s a left back and we don’t have one at all, yeah.

Seems to have been a decent servant to Burton over the years as well.

Lee Shaw’s agent has confirmed he’s not in Sheridan’s plans and is likely to be moving out on loan to a National league north club this week.

Think that suits all parties all round, in my opinion he’s not National League standard and it shows in his inability to beat a man or score goals.

Sheridan spoke on Saturday after the game and said he’s hoping to get two attacking players in through the door this week

With Pemberton here I wonder if we'll be in for him.

He was very good for Burton, that is indeed a decent signing.

We played him at centre back and he looked terrible. Isn’t entirely his fault as we have one centre back currently and someone has to draw the short straw and fill in there. Hope he gets a chance in his actual position.

Wes Thomas is apparently going to Billericay. If that's true that is bonkers. He will rip that division to shreds if he can be arsed.

Tamplin has confirmed it, though he is known for misinformation.

I got the heads up it was Matt Rhead at the beginning of the week.

What a player for us, though. In 3 seasons - National League Champion, FA Trophy Semi-Final, FA Cup Quarter Final, L2 PO's, Checkatrade Winner, L2 Winner and Top Scorer. Legendary status around these parts. Even when he was only coming on as a sub, getting him on the pitch if we were struggling just cranked the volume up at SB. Just one of those players whose presence lifts everyone.

Makes sense for all parties, mind. He'll get more football having spent most of last season on the bench (and getting a decent wedge as well as you'd expect, which you can understand hm taking having only turned pro at 27 - 8 years or so ago), we get a fee and free up wages and they get a player who's playing two divisions below where he should be, even at 35. Under-rated by many, and even those outside of the clubs he played who perhaps didn't underrate him will never quite know what a good footballer he is.

But our transfer business so far pointed towards a further tweak of our style of play and on that basis, we've probably naturally come to the end of the road and we've had our use to one another, although I'd have 100% kept him if we were able to i.e. not having to free wages up to pursue other players.
