I remember telling your fans last year he was a form player. He had a fair few injury lay offs with us and it took him ages to get back to full speed even when he was fully fit.

He was excellent first half of last season, I'm gutted it's not worked out for him but I was also genuinely surprised you gave him a 3 year deal with his injury record.

I can't see him going to the Conference though at this stage of his career, he knows Lowe from his Crewe days so the Plymouth interest I can believe. He'd be better off going there because if he goes Wrexham and gets injured or shows poor form then he'll end up rotting in the non leagues.

That failed Preston medical cost us up to £650,000 apparently.
He's not been injured here, which is even more frustrating, just hasn't recovered from Covid and then the form of other midfielders kept him out from that point forward.

As you say, I'm not sure he'll drop to the NL. Mainly because he's one of those players who I think will drop down and not reappear due to not being able to pin him as a certain type of player. He's pretty well rounded as a midfielder but not outstanding at anything.

Den Bosch is where we found Rodrigues. Unfortunately, unless Jizz has a British passport, he’s got no chance of getting a work permit. :(
Oh is this a post-Brexit issue, or something? We're not actually seriously linked, I don't think. Was just someone on The Fishy doing some internet scouting.

Yeah, it messed us up a bit as one of the things our owners wanted to do was bring in a decent number of signings from abroad. We got a couple in before the rules changed, but it’s basically impossible now if you’re below the Championship.

I think it will come down to whether whatever we offer meets your boards valuation, I can imagine Duff values him a lot higher at this point before the window closes.

I think he'd be a great signing for us, but I dont expect we will pay over the odds for a 31 year old with a year left on his contract. I hope not anyway.

As an aside I hadn't realised Mike Duff was your manager, CM01/02 legend!
Paying over the odds for a player that could give another 5-6 seasons, Could be very good Business.
Weve got one still going strong.

How do you know clubs are tinpot? because their fans seem to think that playing in League 1 "against clubs like Sheffield Wednesdays and Bolton!" are the pinnacle for players. Cambridge fans put that argument forward for Mullin and some Cheltenham fans are saying the same.

Its their job, most of the want to earn as much as they can before they have to retire in their mid 30s.

Although I'm sure playing in front of 3000 fans in the 'Jonny Rocks Stadium' holds a certain type of appeal.
You can have more money but you'll miss out on playing at Ipswich and Sunderland once a season.

I'll have the money thanks.

There is no way the Tozer deal won’t happen now he has had his head turned.

I’m sure he’s a good guy and everything, but he’s getting on for 32 and has had a 300k MINIMUM carrot dangled in front of him by the Wrexham Red Dragons, which could set him up for the rest of his days. He’ll force a move for sure.

Plus he gets to play alongside Harry Lennon.

Is that poster ITK? They've only just signed up but I can't tell if they actually know anything.

Same person gave us the James Jones name.

Someone just mentioned James Jones on a 3 year deal on there.

What sort of midfielder is he? We need someone deep lying really but him being a number 8 at Lincoln suggests he'll be fighting it out with Young for a spot, and will probably start ahead of him.

Surely Young should be a guaranteed starter for you guys given his skill set? Been an outstanding player down here since his Torquay days.

Don't blame Wrexham for going big now. They're at a massive disadvantage with that transfer window. How that is still in place is beyond me, doesn't make sense to me. Strikes me as the Welsh FA wanting to stay relevant.

Wrexham putting together an even smaller midfield than ours is unexpected with Parkinson in charge.

Usually yes, but James Jones is a League One level midfielder who was rated very highly at Crewe given he very nearly got a big move to Preston. If he's fighting it out with Young for a starting place, I think he'll probably win.

Luke Young was recently named our captain but if we sign Ben Tozer, he'll probably be the leader on the pitch anyway.

A chunk of our fans dont rate Young. I like him, and I like Davies, but they don't really work as the midfield pair in the system we seem to want to use, just don't inpose themselves as a pair. Its got to be one or the other.

Haven't signed James Jones, but despite playing 36 times in League One last season one fan has decided he's too small for us.

Guess that's the end of that then.

Same guy would be ecstatic if we had kept Paul Rutherford. Says it all.

Jagerred? he has had a pretty good success rate with transfers over this pre-season and named trialists before it was common knowledge

How’s Will Goodwin doing with you lads??
Goodwin looks like he,s enjoying every minute, Getting roughed up but giving it back.
Can only bring him on playing at this level.
And he would not a look in if DC didn't think he was up to it.
Think he may be rested V Carlisle away(cup).

Surely a 25 year old playing loads in League One last season should be able to stand out a bit at National League level?

Depends what kind of player he is. I think there’s a decent amount of players who are fine and do their job well but wouldn’t necessarily stand out any more if you dropped them down a couple of leagues.

We don't need someone to stand out, we just need a player who can facilitate the standout players like Davies and Mullin through winning the ball in midfield and creating space. We don't really have anyone who does this at the moment. If Jones can do this at League One level, he'll be more than capable of doing it at Conference level.

I’ve only seen Jones a couple of times back when we were a league team and he was at Crewe, pretty sure he scored against a couple of times, but I think he’s far more like a Davies-type player than a ball winner.

On the flip side the Welsh FA can remove suspensions like they did for David Artell just before we faced then in the 2013 play off semi final.... No I'm not still bitter :lac:

He seems to know when the transfers are complete and due to be announced....If he says there is a signing due to be announced to day then I would believe him

He seems to be throwing doubt on it being Jones though, the Guy rumour seemed to have legs and has gone quiet so that might be a goer, think it's too fast to be Tozer after Cheltenham's recent comments, I think he will be later in the week.

Artell ended up gifting Newport a goal in the final if it helps sooth the pain.
