Just putting two and two together here… I mean it might make 5 but I’m just speculating…

Jack Clarke, left footed attacking midfielder gets injured and out for the season…. Cal Roberts, no longer guaranteed starter at Notts and not been at his best all year… left footed, attacking midfielder…

Maybe more in this than just a random bid out of nowhere…

I’m sure when Roberts tore us to bits a couple of seasons ago when you scored 2 goals in last minute to win at our place he played as an attacking midfielder didn’t he? We play with two of them in our current system

I'd be immediately leaking a bid for Tshimanga if I ran Notts, which is one of many reasons I would be shit at running a football club.

I don't see how the owners could square selling Cal to a rival with their continued comments about getting out of this league as soon as possible, even if it's silly money. If it were a L2 team then I wouldn't be shocked to see him leave, for the reasons others have already mentioned.

He played right wing, was under Ardley so will have been 4-4-2.

No doubt it’s right about the bid and you being interested, but suspect our interest in selling to you is basically zero. Notts Post article on it reckons we’ve told you he’s “not for sale at any price to any other National League club”, which I suspect is the case for all of our big players. Move to the league is entirely possible this month though, I would guess.

God knows what else can happen to make Notts vs Chesterfield more awkward and charged up before we eventually play each other, mind.

Can I just bring this back to the more pressing matter of us being a LCB light at the moment.

Ryan Johnson. Soup Ladle Chief Rocka Is he any good? Being linked with us, Challinor obviously liked him like season and doesn't seem to be getting in that much at Port Vale. Word is it could be done quite quick that one.

I suspect we might be going for wrong player in all seriousness. Notts may be anticipating losing Wootton and Rodrigues this month already and absolutely can't lose Roberts too or there'd be riots. Maybe if we go again later in the window if the 2 big guns are still in black and white, we might be able to tempt the slight outcast

I liked him, left sided CB, looks good in a back three but very suspect bordering scary in a back two, chips in with a decent chunk of goals too, would be a good signing for NL.

On the other hand.. they've just signed Zak brunt. Could it be that signing was made knowing of the interest in Roberts?

He will be in a three, Challinor's carried that system on here. Mark Kitching has been playing there for us, he's done pretty well for my money but he's probably more of a LWB and if Rydel who has been playing LWB or Kitching himself got injured we'd need some more lefties in there after letting Fryers go who was barely available anyway. I think it's close to being a done deal, not sure whether loan or permanant. I vaguely remember him from the play off game and he looked sound enough tbh without standing out. DC obviously knows him and I back the guy's judgement.

I definitely think Brunt was signed knowing that we’re going to have huge interest in Ruben and Cal this month, and he works as a replacement in early or if we end up with all three then great. There’s a distinction, I think, between them getting sold and sold to another NL club. It wouldn’t surprise me to see any of the three leave this month, I’d be astonished if it was to a club in this league. It’s no coincidence that’s what we’ve leaked to Leigh Curtis - not that they’re not for sale at any price anywhere, just to another NL club.

I'd be surprised if it happened, but I was amazed we got kabby.

Notts getting raided here. Proper Ian Burchnall caught mid wank watching tactics documentaries about inverted goalkeepers, fly undone, belt half off, hands in the air. James Rowe in a balaclava to disguise himself, gives himself away right away with that camp little voice of his.

Kitching is a LWB all day, has ropey moments in defence but really good attacking wise and you've already got the best RWB in the league in MSH, wonder if Stockport would be re interested in Gav Holohan like you were in the summer, especially since DC's arrival.

Yep I would be very surprised if you sold him to us. But I’m going to assume conversations have taken place between his agent and us to indicate that he might be willing to move otherwise bidding blindly would just be a waste of time surely?

Assuming it depends how much he wants to move, he might kick up a fuss and cite lack of playing time as a reason to leave. Then it’s a case of do you want to be lumbered with an unhappy player that is probably one of your highest earners? Not saying for one minute that’s what he’d do, but there is always that risk isn’t there!

It’s all speculation at this stage anyway, I would not be surprised in the slightest to see him stay with you guys, but it does always make me think there must have been some indication from the player/his agent that they want to move to make us put a bid in.

On the other hand, even if we don’t get Roberts, it shows we’re not messing about this window in going out to replace Clarke and it seems we’re willing to spend some money in doing so! Good to see, because we do need to replace Clarke’s skillset for the remainder of this season

No doubt there’s going to be some mad signings in this league in the next month.

The fact that one of Stockport, Wrexham or Chesterfield won’t be getting promoted is fucking hilarious already. So far I’m putting Chesterfield at the top of my ‘funny if they don’t go up’ list, Wrexham close second.

Challinor doesn't half push these RCB's and LCB's on though. Both side centre backs end up in decent attacking areas and are probably the main case points as to why his 3-5-2 is so much more adventurous that Rusk's where we just had three lads in a line passing it to each other all game. But yeah I agree Kitching is better going forward than defending. But we do need another left sided option there and Johnson is the man in the frame. It probably will push Kitching to LWB and Rydel who's still only 20 but has really come on may see a bit of a reduction in game time.

Getting our name put in with those two big spending animals because we're trying to rescue a defender from a League 2 bench for 6 months.

I think that’s probably all correct tbh, the sticking point would be selling him to you. Would we rather be lumbered with an unhappy player than sell him to the league? Almost certainly not. Would we rather be lumbered with an unhappy player than sell him to you (or Wrexham etc)? Almost certainly yes.

Rydel is at lwb at the moment and he’s been our best player since Challinor arrived and has notched up 9 assists in 11 games.

As Stocky says adding Johnson means we’ll have competition and cover. Has Johnson got some pace?

Apart from scoring goals from midfield what is Holohan good at?

Danny Rowe and Jack Clarke both out til end of the season. Both need replacing. Cal Roberts would be a great place to start spending the Chelsea money.

You're speaking as a fan though. Club owners won't be thinking like that. If we offer more than other clubs... he comes to us. I mean, we signed clucas from Mansfield..

There’s a difference between selling to a local rival and a direct rival for the title halfway through the season. Obviously we’re talking within reason, if you offered us all of your Chelsea money or something we’d presumably take it, but I can’t see us accepting any kind of realistic offer for any of our key players from another NL club at this point.

Thought you’d deactivated your account fella? Grimsby pick up a point for the first time in forever alongside the messiah Mcatee returning from suspension and he’s back look!!

Our owners are quietly loaded. We don't have to sell anybody and Burchnall as head coach would be consulted but really it will be down to the owners and Jason Turner.I
All players at this level are for sale but I just don't see any of our main assets being sold to our rivals in this window.
We have signed Zak Brunt though and he looks most similar to Roberts and Rodriguess from what I've read so wouldn't be surprised to see someone leave to a Div 2 club.

We know you're loaded. How you manage to get your name out of the big spending teams lists time and time again is voodoo stuff in my opinion. I can only think it's because you haven't done one big eye catching deal like a Mullin, Tshimanga or a Madden.

I was told we had the 4th biggest budget in this league. Obviously Wrexham and Chesterfield are two. I'm fairly certain Notts will be the third.
