Come from Leigh Curtis on Twitter. He used to cover us until he moved to the Nottingham Post a few years back.

It'll be 100% if he's put it.

Looks like we may have signed Shwan Jalal. Not seen confirmation yet though.

A bloke wearing an Arsenal shirt in the middle of Ruabon told me we had signed Carlos Edwards today.

Also told me that Bruce Lee would easily beat Muhammad Ali in a fight and that Karl Connolly was good enough to have played in the Premiership. Both obviously true, so I have no reason to doubt him.

Welcome back Carlos.

Jalal's a typical top-half Non-League keeper - prone to the odd howler but generally solid. A Top Lad pretty good guy too.

He didn't make a mistake for months, and people were starting to say he was as good as Taylor, but then around October to February he started making them far too frequently, and actually lost his place in the team for a while after he had missed a game through injury. In his poor period, he made mistakes against Dover, Braintree, Woking, Southport and Kidderminster off the top of my head which all directly led to goals, four of which having a bearing on the result. Strangely, all the mistakes were made away from home, although I expect that just happens to be a co-incidence. He got injured towards the end of the season, and didn't get his place back for the last few games, probably because Askey knew he wasn't going to accept our contract offer. He's definitely not a bad keeper, and I would be happy enough if he re-signed for us, but he won't be a massive loss, like losing Taylor was the year before.

I wonder if Matt Fry to Maidstone could be an option.

BBC Essex has stated hes had an offer from a full time team and one local to home..... Well he lives localish (Gravesend area) and its known he's friends with our management team. Also we just released a defender (Manny Parry) who only a few days ago our manager stated he wanted to keep.

So you never know ;)

According to the Echo, Alex Woodyard, Matt Fry and Sam Haberghan are all close to joining us from Braintree.

Didn't think we'd be in for Fry for no other reason that we have 2x CB's under contract (McCombe and Waterfall), 1x triggered another year, although we're yet to here if that went through (Chris Bush) and 1x offered a new contract to (Callum Howe). Then there's Lee Beevers who can also play there if needed.
Howe and Bush have been offered or triggered a new deal no guarantee they will sign and like you Luke I think at least two of the 5 you mention will be moved on as I just can't see how they will cope with their style. They're not quick enough imho.
Hopefully some player news from us soon.

Looks like my prediction of Steve Arnold to Woking could well be right.

Seems to be an unsubstantiated rumour that Orient and Peterborough have offered Woodyard and Southwell something, respectively.

apparently we've had a bid turned down for Chorley winger Darren Stephenson, know nothing about him.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Southwell not join us, as for Woodyard, with the Cowley links from the past I think he is more likely to join and I see him as a key signing.

I struggle to see Southwell as a L2 player, let alone L1. 90% certain both will come.

If Southwell is L1 standard, I would be astounded. He's obviously improved since we released him but the standard is so much different, as you don't get defenders as bad as the Conf North. Just ask Bogle.

Lincoln would be a good fit: local, style of play to suit him, nurturing manager.

Watch him sign for Scunthore now.

Southwell scores plenty of goals but the only thing that puts me off about him is his injury record missed a chunk of last season and had injury problems the season before.

BBC reporting that Barrow are "unlikely" to pursue a move for Rhead.
Not sure what pursue means here, when Cowley said that he's had no contact and no bids from Barrow - seemingly people putting 2 and 2 together...

Well that's a relief. A one season wonder (or half season wonder), and not the sort of player we should be after really.

^ I think Cowley's telling a porkey about no bid, tbh. Matt Rhead doesn't put a transfer request in and then Barrow made no bid for him.

Alex Woodyard and Sam Habergham nearly done for us by the sounds of it and potentially confirmed in the next 48 hours. No mention of Fry, though.

Apparently we have a Goalkeeper and a midfielder/striker (?) verbally committed who will be signing next week or the week after.

we're close to 2 more signings - hopefully one is Beckles/Heneghan
the other 2 getting mentions are last seasons loanees Sutton and Tomlinson, both of which I'd expect to sign if deals can be done...

With no disrespect to Barrow Beckles and Heneghan should be doing better.

We're going to make 3 signings next week apparently a CB and a Striker being among them and James McQuilkin is going to sign a contract after his holiday.

Why not? You had Adebola and Ormerod. Heskey's better then those two. And he's still in his 30's.

We've also had Ian Rush when he was past his best. I naturally shy away from these old has beens.

Ormerod was decent to be fair. But he's got unbelievable stamina. Glen Little was great too, could only play 15 minutes a game though.

Adebola was horse shit. Worse than bad.

Darren Stephenson is ace. He's Chorley's main attacking player and will be a big loss to them if you do sign him.

Hope the deal goes through! :2thumb:

Heskey is miles better than those two, he's been a proven goalscorer in the premier league. I'd definitely take Heskey, but he'd never drop this far down yet. The thing with this league is you need to built for it, Ormerod never has been and Adebola was but he couldn't control the ball and he's never really been a good player, unlike Heskey..

Sounds as if Eastleigh are ceremoniously unveiling Scott Rendell as their new signing at six o'clock this evening...
