A club who are entirely dependant on themselves to generate money need to be a bit more prudent in their signings. Sign a young up and coming player with resale value. Not a 38 year old who played well.in the premier league a dozen years ago.

Another way to think of it though could be that someone of Heskey's calibre could sell more season tickets or fill up more seats, therefore generating more income. I'm sure some will have your point of view, but I think the majority would agree that he must be way too good for this league! He's on another level from Ormerod who did the same jump in leagues..

Heneghan reportedly had three or four Championship clubs looking at him so I'd be surprised if he signs for anyone in this league, but given our luck at the moment....

I don't think he's up to that level at the moment, Shrewsbury were being mooted last week, that would be more realistic.

You're probably right, a signing like that may stir up some excitement (not sure why though, it's Emile Heskey not Franz Beckenbauer)

I've not seen him play for a few years so no idea what he's like now. A 38 year old forward whose never been known for his goal scoring exploits just doesn't excite me much!

So whats your opinion on SR's abilities?
Good/bad/injuries...?
Proven goalscorer, good all-round player who works hard at shutting defenders down, strong in the air, decent on the ground, defends well at opposition corners and free-kicks. His only real weakness was a lack of pace, so he plays best with a nippy little striker alongside him. Don't really see him playing alongside Constable, to be honest. Of course, the big question with him is how well he has recovered from his injury. But for a club with money to burn, it's a risk worth taking.

we're close to 2 more signings - hopefully one is Beckles/Heneghan
the other 2 getting mentions are last seasons loanees Sutton and Tomlinson, both of which I'd expect to sign if deals can be done...

More importantly, how tall are they?

Southwell scores plenty of goals but the only thing that puts me off about him is his injury record missed a chunk of last season and had injury problems the season before.

I think you will have bigger problems than that as the lad has no pace and rarely takes players on. If you are Rhead, Parkin style player where the ball glues to you and you can use that forte to bring in others then fine, Southwell isn't and would be amazed if Posh or any league side went anywhere near the lad. That said on the flip side he certainly knows where the goal is and I have seen him score some corkers and If Rhead stays and he plays up with him, it could just work, but personally think he would struggle (pens apart) to reach double figures in the NL. Wouldn't you also need to pay compensation or is the lad over 24 now?

22, so compensation required. Doubt it'd be much.

Sounds as if Eastleigh are ceremoniously unveiling Scott Rendell as their new signing at six o'clock this evening...
Well you got the Scott part right, but it is Scott Wilson from Weston Supermare!

I seriously doubt Beckles will be going to Barrow (Dover have offered him something too). I reckon he's got a FL club lined up as there was plenty of interest in January. He can get fucked if he rocks up to Barrow though.

Mention on one of our forums that Sutton may be staying. He appeared to have a fall-out with Brabin, but was on a 2 year deal and we are thin on defenders so who knows...

Yeah, I know that of the 2 players confirmed to be on the way, Sutton isn't one of them. Barrow have definitely spoken to him this summer, but no deal has been struck. A young full-back is reportedly on his way next week.

A young right back who can throw the ball to the back post from the half way line apparently... there can't be too many of them around - but given that we already have 5 players at 6'3" or above waiting for those throws we know what's going to happen next season....

Who would have thought a management team of Cox and Simpson refusing to play the beautiful game. Maybe you should change your nickname to the Barrow Globetrotters.

Well I saw his Mansfield side smash us 8-1, and they played pretty decent football... There's still some very good footballers in this side, especially down the flanks, so there's no way it'll be route one.

Sorry to disappoint,not sure about who you have has players and could get promoted but one thing is for sure any team managed by Cox means fans will have neck ache,I think York manager is truly awful but would not Cox in charge,also you are saying you are good down flanks have you seen MIEKLE play yet.

Have you seen Jordan Williams yet? We're not gonna waste him by booting it long to the strikers every 30 secs.
We played some decent football from about February onwards, and I'd expect us to carry on that way.

We would like to thank Sam Habergham for his time at Braintree as he now moves on from the club.

4 I think - Akinola, Cheek, Isaac and their new signing.

Suspect Akinola would have been off as well had he not been under contract.

Also with League experience. If it's someone in our division it could be Berry, who he had at Torquay?

Would hate to have Cox as manager.

Next season it will be
Barrow = Anti Football
FGR = Total Football

For the good of the game, I hope our style proves more successful.
