Bond has been past it for years. As for hardy, another player I wanted us to release. Technically superb. I would go as far as saying he will have the best feet at this level but he's far to lightweight and probably has one good game in 5. He might be a mistake in the long run but definitely the correct decision right now
Decent goal to game ratio for a past it midfielder though. I don’t remember Hardy playing against us, but then again none of your attacking players catch the eye when you visit us, as it always seems to end 0-0 because Danny Rowe sends his twin brother.

Still wouldn't surprise me if Bond returns to Barrow - the last "past it" player we signed (after being released by Fylde) was Taylor who got player of the season last year. Another member of the 2010 FA Trophy winning team, who then left to go into the EPL.

Have a feeling that we may be signing a certain GK formally of a North-East club... decent signing if so

Loach I assume?

Excellent keeper at this level, fantastic shot stopper but petrified to come off his line for anything in the air, earned the nickname Super Glue by the players because of it, I would’ve loved for him to stay, we offered him a new deal on reduced terms so he left, you’ve got a good one there if it comes off.

You support a team that was founded 9 years ago, please be quiet.

Oops touched a nerve there. To be honest I'm not sure if the above is true. Semantics is the last resort. Btw way it wasn't meant to offend.

What's (ex-Wrexham/Chester) Johnny Hunt like at this level? Signed up with the agent that deals a lot with us and Fylde, and fits the bill for us at left-back.

Would imagine he’ll still be very solid at this level. Played mainly in midfield for us and can get a goal.

He's still a decent player and I would be quite happy if we had him back.

Johnny Hunt was great for us but the fool Jon McCarthy inexplicably released him and Elliot Durrell 2 seasons ago.

He's a player who splits opinion on RP. Some people seem to absolutely hate him. I'm not sure why as he always put in a lot of effort for us. He's not the best player you'll ever see but he's perfectly adequate at this level, solid and reliable.

I remember there was a season where he scored a load of goals and he impressed at our place. I think we'll be one of a handful of clubs in for him - but we'll probably have to stick him on a long contract to win the race!

The “He always gives his all and that’s all fans ask for” saying goes over the head of a lot of Wrexham fans, that’s why. It’s like Rutherford, always gives his all and never stops running and he’s the one who always gets the most flak, it’s ridiculous. Players like Rutherford and Hunt will never be the most talented players in the league, but you can guarantee that they’ll always give 100% no matter what position they’re told to play. A dying art really in today’s game.

I agree. You need a core of these sort of players. Same with Carrington who still gets criticism from a few despite being solid and reliable for years now.

Rutherford got the same stick here, mostly from a group of stupid old codgers who stood down one of the wings. Their main complaint was that he'd often check back instead of putting a cross in - regardless of if there was actually anyone in the box to aim for. He said that the constant criticism affected his game. If Hunt was gonna get the same stick, I'd tell him not to bother!

You just have to be careful with that core. A core of ten of these types and you're suddenly stuck in the Vauxhall Conference for twelve miserable years. I've never understood the criticism of Carrington; he's actually a pretty good player at this level. I certainly wouldn't be concerned if he was our number one right-back.

But I concur; a team full of flair players gets you nowhere. You need the donkeys to carry the luggage. Johnny Hunt is as unremarkable as he is solid and dependable. He'd be a good signing for any team in this league, including Wrexham.

The failing of the last two seasons is that we haven't had enough of the 'flair'. So we are solid but unspectacular and we will always fall short.

That said in Gary Mills second season we had neither flair nor solidity so it could be worse!

Hunt would be a good signing for any team top 7 down. He's the type of player we don't need, for the reasons you stated!

That is literally what gets said on Red Passion. If Rutherford put the ball in the box every time last season, he’d get accused of wasting possession because the chances of picking out a red shirt among the opposition, were very slim. He gets accused of not creating anything, but a few seasons ago, he got over double figures in assists, but we don’t mention that. Granted, he’ll never skin a full back from a standing start, but if he gets a yard on them or gets on the shoulder, he has enough pace to keep them at bay. Personally I like him in midfield because he gives you energy and a press and that’s what he did when he changed the game vs Eastleigh in the play offs. It’s become a little bizarre on there now because whenever we sign a player, someone sarcastically says “does he work hard though?”, like a jibe at Rutherford, but it’s like “um yeah I hope so? I hope they do work hard..?”, but RP is an odd place.. just ask Chipmunx.

I was surprised to see Bond and Hardy let go. The former always seems to pick up key goals and wasn’t the latter being watched by football league clubs?

Hardy has been unlucky tbh. He's spent alot of his time with us being injured. We then signed Haughton who is a very similar player and is probably better. There both small and lightweight so won't get into the same side. So only fair to let Hardy go for the chance of first team football. He's very talented and if he can get a run of game he will be a cracking signing for where ever he ends up.

Bondy prime example of got such an amazing football brain but the ability just let's him down massively. Been a decent squad player for us, but if we want to go up. We need better squad players. He's just a victim of our success/ambition.

Hardy probably could okay in any team in this league. I heard Bondy has interest from Chorley, Chester and Barrow.

Just for clarity, I meant as a replacement for one of our existing hard workers. I'm not for one moment suggesting we're a bit light in the Working Hard Department. Our vacancies are definitely in the Not Being Shit at Football Department. (third door on the right, next to the Hedi Taboubi statue)

I like Rutherford as he is the most hard-working and dedicated pro you could ever get but we need better than him. Whilst we were hardly the most attacking/creative of teams, he only scored 1 goal in 48 games last season, that is simply not good enough for any wide player. And he was hardly a goal machine anyway, he basically never scored for his other teams either.

If he has to play then I don't mind seeing him in the 3 in midfield, actually think he looked good in a central position and his first touch and close control is actually good, he rarely messes up when on the ball.

Bond has been mooted from our side as well. He was with us a few years ago so know what to expect and all that. We're already overstocked in that position though so can't say I understand it myself.

we're (hopefully) due to sign 2 more this week;- one apparently should be sorted Monday and the 2nd a long term loan should be later in the week. With Middlesborough, Notts Forest, Sheff United and Blackburn keen on us taking loanees the loan player is likely to be a youngster from one of them. Don't be surprised if the permanent signing is someone Monkey Tennis has mentioned?

I haven't got a clue who we're in for - hopeful though that our loanee is of the standard set by our previous loan players from Forest/Sheff Utd/Blackburn. If Nozza came back, I'd be delighted.

me 2 - but i think he'll be in league 1 this time round as Evo said a couple of weeks ago League 1 teams were ringing him up for his opinion on RND and Tyler Smith after their loans last season.
