I don't understand why he would end up at Bristol City. He was doing a job at Palace and surely there are 10 bigger and better clubs who would take him!
Guaranteed to play every game with us and that could easily then put him back in the sights of bigger clubs again. At bigger clubs he may get rotated around more etc and not be the main man. Main thing that sticks out to me.

Palace won't take a loss on him. They paid us £6m upfront rising to £8m so

Maybe. Would probably get a Prem club anyway though and not need to catch the sights of anyone!

Just seen someone put on OTIB, whether this has anything to do with our clause on Bolasie making us first choice, basically sell him to us and we reduce it/get rid of it.

None of whom have 6mil to splash.

If you're talking about Championship clubs that is.

Expecting a new kit deal to be announced tomorrow where Bristol Sport's contract to make our kit is worth £6m :animatedf:

Where are you all getting this money from?!

I can just about understand the likes of Boro and Derby throwing big money offers about because of the potential reward they could well get, but Bristol City? Is it really worth spending that kind of money for the club?

£6M?? WTF??
This HAS to be to do with Bolasie's sell on clause. Either that or SL is playing the 'Bristol Sport' thing to the max!
We don't pay that sort of ££££, we just don't!

Hundreds of people on Twitter asking this. Billionaire owner helps.

Our owner is stupidly wealthy and a City fan. He has formed an 'umbrella' company in Bristol sport and keeps everything in house. I can only assume that Bristol sport have suddenly found an extra few quid to put into the football club. He DID say we would compete during the summer and we have a sell on clause for Yannick Bolasie which may have some bearing on this.
Bear in mind our record transfer fee is £2.25M for Nicky Maynard so I'm not sure this is genuine TBH.

Our Chairman, and Bristol Sport.

With Bristol Sport, he has basically got around FFP, in that he can pump as much money into the club as he likes, without it coming directly from him.

We're gifted in that Lansdown is a massive City fan, and is in all honesty one of, if not the richest Chairman in this division.

I'd be over the moon with this!!

A lot of clubs going for promotion this season to secure the huge financial package that is the Premier League next season. Problem is there are a good 10-15 clubs with promotion on their minds this season, with only 3 places available. Suspect that this time next year there will be many financially fucked clubs in this division where the risk didn't pay off.

He's a proper strange looking fucker though, isn't he?

Dwight Gayle that is.
I couldn't care less if he looked like the elephant man, he scores goals!!
I assume that's our £10K max weekly wage blown out of the water then?

He is worth every penny.

The kid is an unbelievable finisher, and has been Palaces top scorer most seasons despite barely playing.

He will rip this league apart. Trust me.

Bit OTT.

He'll rip this League up will he? based on what?

For Palace, he's played 48 times and only scored 12.

13 in 29 for you lot.

Good luck to Bristol City but, I bet Palace can't believe their luck that someone is prepared to hand over 6M for this lad.

Away from the Bristol City love in, we've confirmed the Martinez deal. He's set to make his debut tonight.

And onto Bristol City related matters...

We won't though Cha. When players leave City, we generally put at least a 20% sell on clause in. We sold Bolasie for £300K (I think) so 20% of any profit when he moves will be a lot of money. I can't believe we are spending this kind of money without taking that into account. Say Bolasie leaves for £15M? Suddenly we are paying less than £3M for Gayle!

Exactly, and I bet they've realized they probably had their pants pulled down by posh.

Hence them being chuffed to bits when Bristol City came along with a deal that matched what they paid.

I've absolutely nothing against Bristol City but, 6m for Dwight Gayle is mental. You could have got 2 players of equal quality for that, I reckon. Assuming of course that you've stumped a fair wedge up upfront.

Just us and Mk Dons left in club poor then..
Incredible isn't it? We've spent £0 on transfer fees this season and Bristol City have spent £10 Million on 2 players. No idea how we are supposed to compete at this level.
