Believe it or not but Dean Hoyle is probably one of the poorest (I use this term very loosely) owners in the division. Ours is worth 510m and that is pretty average in this league. According to wiki Dean Hoyle is only (again, loosely) worth 120ish mill.

:surr:

I best start savouring 17th place finishes.

News today is seemingly Gray is on his way to a medical at Hull, we've apparently accepted a bid of £9m.

£11m profit on 2 players in one year is pretty damn good business. Need to sign some quality players quickly as we again look lacking up front and at right back but definitely shows the club is being run the right way. Gutted to see them go, but the way this club is run we will continue to rise.

We paid 4.75M for Ince, who scored 11 in 18 as a winger for us.

Boro paid 5.5m (?) for Downing, proven premier league winger who did well last season.

And Bristol City are paying 6M for Gayle... This league is ridiculous.

Dyche pulling his beard out as we speak.
Who has done relatively well in the PL.

Palace fans rate him highly, he must have done something right in his time there.

Anyone reckon Brentford will enter the fray with their Gray money?

Aye, alright then.

Why on earth would I allow bitterness, as an emotion, to take hold of my brain, because another football club are spending £6m on a football player?

Sausage.

Answered your own question.

If it comes off, it's a great signing.

Few niggling doubts, could it be better spent throughout the team, would be our 3rd signing up front when we're short of defensive and midfield cover..... oh and 6 (SIX!!) million...

But it's hard not to get majorly excited about this one - he's absolute quality.

Got to agree personal terms yet though, still expecting someone to nip in at the last minute

The reality is £6M will sign a player to improve our squad and make a difference - crazy, i know!

I'd say that if/when he signs, there'll be more still to come.

We're just lucky to have a guy who'll pay for our stadium revamp and do what's required to push us upwards! That's the plan, anyway.

You miss my point.

I don't like football enough to get 'bitter' over other clubs spending money on football players.

It's a good signing for Bristol City, that goes without saying but, £6m is madness in my opinion.

I would think Keith Dawe (Chairman) is pretty wealthy in his own right as well as SL / JL.

Why fans get concern themselves about transfer fees amazes me aslong as fees are not putting clubs in danger financially then it makes 0 difference to us as supporters, all they do is give us something to talk about.

It is odd to me why people are still surprised by these transfer figures. It's the norm now rather the rarity it used to be. I'm more surprised when I see a low transfer fee!

Yeah as awesome a signing this would be, I'd hope we're still looking at getting a CB/LB and CM as well or we'd be very top heavy.

Just trying to keep my emotions in check really, my first post was more of an accurate reflection of what's going on in my head right now at this news! :2thumb:

It does however show how ridiculous spending has got recently though, you're a newly promoted team with a potential almost 10M strike force. Shows how much the spending has come on recently.

Incredible isn't it? We've spent £0 on transfer fees this season and Bristol City have spent £10 Million on 2 players. No idea how we are supposed to compete at this level.

It's crazy. It was no where near this bad last time we were in the division.

At least Karl can use some facts to back up his small budget claims this season :box:

Lost for words.

As Tom says he's better than players who are going for a lot more.

He won't sign.

Can we join this? Our record transfer fee is £1.3m for Wells which seemed massive at the time!

Not sure what to think these days. Always liked our attempt to self sustain, consistently sell players for good profits and utilise the academy but it's not gonna get us anywhere. In fact it's probably a bit of a stone age approach now.

Pretty sure ourselves and Preston have wealthy owners too. Not picking on you guys individually though.

Haha you guys can definitely join, I think even we've spent more on a player than that! He was shit though and now plays for Northampton:(

Dwight Gayle and Bristol City doesn't go together, sounds ridiculous. Great signing if it goes through, mind.

Anyone reckon Brentford will enter the fray with their Gray money?

They certainly need to do something if they're going to live up to fans expectations this season.

Based on the weekend, credit where credit is due to salvage a 2-2 when we self destructed, but they looked devoid of ideas in the final third and won't trouble anywhere near the top six with their current squad. £11m, however, is a fair old whack to use for investment!

One thing's for sure, Gayle is certainly better than Gray. £9m for a striker who needs 3 million chances to score once is a farcical amount of money!

Chris Eagles has been training with us for weeks and has been pictured pottering about Deepdale today, possibly signing, possibly saying his goodbyes, possibly neither.

I'd take him on a one-year deal I reckon.

Bit OTT.

He'll rip this League up will he? based on what?

For Palace, he's played 48 times and only scored 12.

13 in 29 for you lot.

Good luck to Bristol City but, I bet Palace can't believe their luck that someone is prepared to hand over 6M for this lad.

With all due respect, he got 13 in 29 for a relegated side. Some effort. And with his Palace goals, how many against minutes? His lack of minutes harms it against his apps.

He doesn't play a lot for palace, but has finished their top scorer twice.

Trust me, the kid is clinical and if you supply him, he will score. He shouldn't be dropping down a league, and I'd wager if he does that it won't be long before he's back up, whether that be with City or with another club.
