Are you really trying to compare Dwight Gayle (ability & potential) to Garner and Beckford?!

Or maybe he is highlighting the difference in spending?

Not that it matters, see how many goals Dwight Gayle scores when Joe Garner has taken his chin off with an elbow.

Who would you rather have up top?

Garner AND Beckford, or Dwight Gayle on his tod?

Bullshit scenario.

In all seriousness, £6m is a fair whack but we rebuffed close to £5m for Murphy. Go figure. You can all keep saying 'crazy league' , 'crazy figures' but they won't be going away. These sums will be the norm within a season or two for the vast majority of championship teams.

No offence but I don't think any of the 23 teams you play this season will be losing sleep over PNE or Garner.

One thing's for sure, Gayle is certainly better than Gray. £9m for a striker who needs 3 million chances to score once is a farcical amount of money!
Not sure how you figure that, Gray scored more goals (18 vs 13) than Gayle did in the Championship.

I know I'd rather have Gray than Gayle right now

Why is it a bullshit scenario?

The lad was just highlighting what you could have in comparison to paying £6m for Gayle, and you thought you'd try and ridicule him.

It's a very valid scenario.

Apart from the Middlesbrough journalists writing articles on him already.

I think someone is still a little bitter over the hatrick he got against Ipswich :bg1:

Good, I want them to lose sleep after we've played them.

Not sure where I've said anything to even prompt that post to be honest.

Why the fuck are they having to play him up their on his todd in your scenario?

To answer your Q, I'd still take Gayle. Garner & Beckford aren't in L1 anymore.

When the increased PL deal starts next season, for any Championship player a PL club targets the asking price is going to inflate in line with the newly increased riches. As a result there's going to be Championship clubs with big chunks of money after selling a player each summer. And thus the asking prices for replacements increase. So these fees from Champ clubs are here to stay and will probably only increase as the money from the new deal flows into PL and then Championship coffers.

I know the situation with Gayle is in the opposite direction so it's not strictly relevant here, but I fear in 2-3 years we'll look back and think of 6m or 8m at this level as nothing special, perhaps even routine.

Gray played in a team that finished in the play-offs, whereas Gayle was in a shit Posh side.

Garner scored a hat-trick against Ipswich 19 months ago. He's got better since then.

Has this become a Bristol City PNE shitfest simply because there aren't any Rotherham fans around, or are there deeper reasons?

In an FA Cup tie against a weakened Ipswich side who are notoriously shite in any cup matches? Woahh calm down.

To be fair, he may have got better since then but he's also moved up to the Championship since then. Good luck to the lad.

Anyway, lets move this back towards the topic of transfers. I'm guilty of a little thread derailment here...

Question is would you expect Rhodes to score over double what Gayle would get, McCormack to get just under double and Gray to get a third more goals? That's what their values are compared to the speculated Gayle fee. McCormack was about 3 years older when he moved to Fulham, Rhodes is the same age and Gray a year younger.

Dwight Gayle and Bristol City doesn't go together, sounds ridiculous. Great signing if it goes through, mind.

They certainly need to do something if they're going to live up to fans expectations this season.

Based on the weekend, credit where credit is due to salvage a 2-2 when we self destructed, but they looked devoid of ideas in the final third and won't trouble anywhere near the top six with their current squad. £11m, however, is a fair old whack to use for investment!

TB
I wouldn't say our fans expectations are particularly high, but any team that sells £12m worth of players in the week the season starts is likely to struggle! We were in the play offs on merit last year, not through luck or being underestimated.

There's a lot of things that could go wrong this season, new manager, some key players have gone, but we've made some very smart buys, pocketed an absolute fortune, and could well still end up with a squad stronger than last year's.

I think your report on us from Saturday is well off the mark as well. We were the better team until you scored your first, and as the long ball and counter attack kings you guys have consistently done well against us in the last year. Delighted to get you out of the way early to be honest! We'll be fine, and have more than enough to trouble the top 6 again, even with departures.

If it has, it doesn't even seem like City fans are involved, its more TB (representing City) vs PNE Shitfest

I've said openly it wouldn't surprise me if Brentford finish either top 6 or bottom three to be fair and if you invest some of that £11m I don't deny you could feature. Comments about Saturday are a little tinted from your perspective though, we kept you exactly where we wanted you for 92 minutes- if by better side you're referring to having more of the ball but doing next to nothing with it, I'll give you that.

I wouldn't say our fans expectations are particularly high

Gayle is a great player but £8 million for them two is a hell of a lot of money.

I'm banking Garner and Beckford score more than Gayle and Kodge do.
