Lack of scouting ability, or lack of confidence in scouting maybe? I don't think Gray as an individual is worth that much, but he's probably worth that much to our promotion chances.Jesus Christ.
As mentioned on the previous page, why not just invest on a top end L1 striker who will more than likely transfer his form up a division? Tom Bradshaw would have been perfect IMO.
Afobe cost us 2m, now look at him.
Gray cost Brentford 600k from the conference.
Many other examples listed earlier too.
Paying insane prices for an already proven Championship striker is madness, look at McCormack, 11 fucking million. Everyone going for the prem this season but only 3 can make it, will end it tears for many teams.
Based on?
I'm amazed we've picked up as many as we have considering most clubs with this amount of bad luck, plus losing their only proper right back, would have folded completely. Sure we've had a bit of luck in both games, but we've created more shots in our first two league games this season than any other side. He's played a game and a half so far this league season, and during that time he's had a hand in 5 of our 6 goals. Effective.
Obviously we'd need to give a chunk of the fee to Luton, and even though I'm hearing £8m plus add ons, the payment schedule for that £8m would likely be 2, 3 or even 4 years. That said, we need reinforcements. With Jota, McEachran, Bjelland, Hogan and McLeod all injured for lengthy spells, our side is looking severely depleted despite picking up points this season.
Our problem when we were last in the Championship was giving big wages to overaged journeymen on long contracts.Just reminds me
Based on watching football for longer than you've been alive mate, I'm sorry but no club in this league should be splashing £8m on a single player, it just show's how fucked the game is, you're effectively paying more than Man United did for Andrew Cole, for a lad that has made just 40 odd appearances in the Football League.
Clubs on gates of 25/26k don't have the resources to splash that sort of cash ne'er mind ones on 10k less than that and one of the cheaper ticket prices (see Blackburn too), You went through the mire a couple of years back for over-spending too, just seems farcical.

I have no idea where that came from. Only Moose reported it, and I struggle to see how we get onto personal terms with the lad if a fee hadn't been agreed? As far as I'm aware, this is just repetition of the story from a couple of days ago where he had already turned you down, so not reading much into it at the moment, unless you have gone back in with a better contract offer.

Signings like Gray, who is raw, young and has room for improvement don't concern me. There's potential re-sale value there if he develops.
It could go either way, it may well end in tears, but you can't make a solid prediction that it will before the player even puts pen to paper.
Believe me, an £8m price tag who has only had one season in this league is scary, but football is about risks, and this is a big one.Forums are about predictions and opinions fella, I will make a solid prediction here and now that you will lose money on Andre Gray in the longer term and he won't fire you to the PL in short to medium term.
He just smacks of a flash in the pan signing, granted I only saw him twice last season live and on TV but he never impressed me.
Bloody hell, guys. Cotterill better be right about this one, plus whatever an £8m player's wages are.
That's serious money for a club with no parachute payments. Seems crazy to me - but that comes from a fan of a club that's playing hardball over buying a player for £50,000!

Having said that, he's less of a risk than Kodjia, despite the financial difference. Kodjia doesn't even speak the language, yet we chucked £2m at him. At least Gray has done it here before.
So starts the argument of British players being over-inflated, which they are, massively, if this is what you have to pay for a decent (not outstanding), decent Championship goalscorer.

Mate he's had ONE season in the entire football league....that's even scarier.
Oh well - we'll just go and bid £11m for Leon Clarke...
Tyone Mings commanded £8ml + Brett Pitman Free Exchange + Fraser Season Long ,a LB who played on full season in the gaugeable.
Bringing back to Grey, he is a good attacking player (espec. in Champ) but I cant see him thriving at Britsol.

Yeah he does tend to be ITK. From what I heard you guys actually agreed a fee before the game, and he was allowed to speak to you and turned you down. No on reported it, until now, I'm just suggesting the TalkSport story is a few days late.I have no idea where that came from. Only Moose reported it, and I struggle to see how we get onto personal terms with the lad if a fee hadn't been agreed?
In hindsight, Gray's performance against us on the weekend probably wasn't a bad thing, our owner was sat about 20 seats away from me, and it's probably removed any doubt in his mind.
Also, is Banana on your forum ITK? Everyone seems to be gutted that he's put sad faces about the situation.
Trouble lies ahead for Brentford, surelty with this being accepted they must have plenty of irons in the fire.
TB
Yeah it seems strange they're so willingly letting the best players from last season go.
