Anyone remember me saying how Bristol would get desperate? hahahahaha.

As Rotherham are close to making another astute signing in Tom Lawerence who was brilliant for us last year.

To me, Greg Halford screams desperation.

Anyway, Kodjia was superb on Saturday, can't believe anyone would be foolish enough to write him off after one game.

Also, BBC reporting we've had £9m accepted, not £8m.

Bristol City have a tiny squad, £10m transfer budget, and then use the whole budget on two players?

I'd much rather buy 5-10 £1m+ players then put all of the money into a guy who has one year of FL experience.

If we have a £10m budget and sign Gray, we've already overspent it.

How could we turn down 8M for Gray? We're not willingly letting him go, the fact we're holding out for so much and that we've already rejected a load of big bids for him shows how much we want to keep him. Odubajo had a release clause so there was nothing we could do if someone bid that amount for him. Dallas is the only one that could be argued we have let go a little bit easy but if you look at the facts 1.25 million for a squad player (albeit a very good one) is good money.
Especially as Dallas only had one year left on his contract and told the club he was unlikely to sign a new one.

If we lose Gray for £9m, I'd expect to see almost all of it reinvested before the end of the window.

Yep, i'm glad we're not interested in any Brentford players' this Summer.

Seem to be pulling everyone's pants down with the fees they are receiving. Ridiculously good sales.

Only negative is finding the players and getting them to gel, which might mean a slow start. But they should come out of this long term with a far better team.

Going off last season, we're paying £500,000 per goal

Yeah I was gutted when Dallas left, but we actually got a pretty good deal in hindsight.

On another note, don't really like how City are going about all of these attempted deals for strikers. Cotterill talking about the players all the time in the press, and news outlets all reporting when fees are agreed etc. Doesn't take a genius to figure out where the information is coming from.

Same can be said with Hull, much prefer dealing with clubs who do their business quietly and decently.

Captain Greg is a classier Aden Flint.

Yeah, I think he'll end up being worth more than that one day, got all the raw materials and had begun to show some real form. Shame we couldn't keep hold of him but it paid for Vibe. Early signs not great form so far but once he settles down I'm hopeful he'll be a real upgrade.

Apart from Gayle and Gray you generally wouldn't find a club that does business quieter than us. The only players we've ever signed that weren't undisclosed were Maynard (record signing) and Kodjia (due to currency exchange).

Agreed. One of the main reasons we did well last year was not because of one star player, but the collective team really worked amazingly well. A lot of the credit for that can be given to Warbs.

I have no doubt man for man we'll have a much stronger squad this season. My main question is will it work better as a unit. I would have said yes up until August 1st. We'd bought early, had a bigger squad and looked pretty much ready for the season already. Now we've had a few bids we can't turn down, lost about 6 players to injuries and sales, and will likely struggle compared to last season for the first couple of months. I think our true progress will be shown second half of this season.

If we get £9m for Gray, throw in the £3.5m for Odubajo and £1.25m for Dallas, that means we've hit returns of £13.75m for players who cost us £1.675m (not taking into account sell-ons). Quite an awesome feat for a team one season out of League One.

I personally felt the 4-2 win at BCFC on Saturday papered over the cracks quite a bit. They were massively on top before the red card, and although I'd rather keep Gray, the money received could go a long way to reinforcing the squad in essential positions given our injury crisis. A new centre forward, a defensive midfielder and potentially an experienced centre back (although not essential) would be high on my list.

Doesn't benefit us either to have fees etc in the public eye. Obvious answer is agents, we're not a big draw in this league so agents release the fees so another bigger club joins the race, Cotterill has only answered questions directly relating to when a player has been named and even the doesn't say much, its not him telling the media first, they're the ones going to him with it.

As said above, since Cotterill has come in the Gayle and Gray deals are the only two to have been public knowledge really, Freeman got a little bit of attention but not much and no fees were released, so like you said, not hard to figure out whose responsible when the price is jacked up.

He refused to comment at the presser today.

Is the chairman of Bristol City on crack? I'd be fuming if that was PNE offering 9 million for 1 player.

You could build a fantastic championship squad with that

We got Garner, Gallagher, Daniel Johnson, Beckford and Cunningham for 50 grand. Cotterell has lost the plot or is absolutely woeful at astute signings.

Could have had Edin Dzeko for 14 million

I think we take the prize for quietest club doing business.

No one know who's going to sign. Pickford and Keane were complete suprises.

Might be wrong but pretty sure he was on a free? Even if he wasn't we would not have paid more than a couple of hundred green for him at the very most.

Out of the players above,we only paid for 1 player,Daniel Johnson who has so far been immense.

The point in trying to make is that you don't have to go and splash stupids amount of money. He was playing non league only a couple of years ago.

Baffled by it to be honest

We've left it too late now, and I'm pretty sure you wouldn't have got Cunningham for a 5 figure fee.

Whereas Cunningham was known by many 2 days before.

Last summer none of our fans ever knew till pen was put to paper. Don't think Gray, or Jota were really mentioned before they signed.

We only tend to find out this summer because it comes out in the foreign press. The guys in charge at Brentford are very quiet about their business.

You could spunk all that on a Ross McCormack...
