Let's be honest we've all witnessed the gulf in class between league 1 and the Championship this season

Absolutely.

Also, watching the playoffs this year, I couldn't help but feel the PNE & Bristol City teams of last year would wipe the floor with anything League one has had to offer this year. Including Wigan and Burton.

Big improvements needed by all the promoted teams.

I expect Wigan to spend a decent wedge over the summer though.

Yes, but if you pick the select few best players and they're played correctly they can make the step up - as most of PNE's players did, as well as Flint, Pack, Bryan, Smith and even Wilbraham to an extent.

Mawson is supposed to be excellent. Was very highly rated here and we wanted him to stay but he left to get first team football at Barnsley. No idea how he's got on this season mind.

The only player to cut it this year were Smith really.

The rest were pretty much awful, Cotterill was to blame for the formation and tactics but I honestly can't say that I found any of last seasons champions that good.

I felt for Williams losing his place

I used to moan about Williams in L1 - he was a weak link in a good side. Very poor defensively.

Flint won our player of the season and Pack was fanastic under Johnson. Even Reid has excelled under Johnson and I'm quite possibly his biggest critic.

Bit harsh on Pack I'd say, yes he wasn't great to start with however he grew well as the season went on and ended up one of our best players and very capable at this level.

If the link is genuine, and after the Dack situation in January, the club would have already known they'd have to pay a lot! Hopefully this is the start of change in apporach?
I think we'll pay fees for a few players this summer, but I can't see us really spending big. The impression I have is that both Evans and McCarthy want signings that are good value for money so, given Peterborough's previous successes in getting big money for their players, I can't see this one happening.

I wouldn't be disappointed with Mawson at all. He's arguably the best centre half in L1 at 22 years of age - £500k would be an absolute steal.

My comment was in reference to having 5 Barnsley players in our team next season. I agree mawson looks a good prospect. Just a bit bored of being linked to all their players.must be driving tykes fans mad with their massive game coming up.

Pack problem is he to much like Kilkenny, the team will break and Pack decided to pass it back to the keeper.

Doesn't shoot or really do a lot.

I like Williams he puts the tackles in , can run just sometimes ends up lost

Very harsh that, Pack is far better than Kilkenny, his range of passing is much better as well. If something is on Pack will often try and go for it, however if there are no options he will choose to retain possession rather than make a risky pass, as seen by how much less over the season he would try his 30 yard balls. Would much rather we kept the ball then play risky and keep giving it away for the 1 in 10 or so times the pass worked.

Williams is fine as back up, however I'm not quite sure he's up to standard, however we were very lucky to have Baker which showed the quality difference.

Baker was temperamental though and at times couldn't be bothered.

You don't win games playing it safe Pack has a lot to do I don't think that he is up to it.

You don't win a game with 1 player either, we'd miss what Pack can do if he weren't in the side, you just need a creative player or two around him. Yes Baker was sometimes a liability to get booked but his quality was there to see, as for the 'not being bothered' can't say I saw that in the games I went to watch, maybe an element of him being on loan too.

I think that we will have to agree to disagree on Pack.
I could be here all day on him.

Baker if it wasn't a injury it was trying to get a red or enough yellows for a ban, quality might be there but he wasn't interested in doing it for City in all honesty

Supposedly we've got a decent sell on fee (thank you tribunal) but yeah, massive shame he didn't get through with us. Then again he wasn't going to get past Dean or Tarkowski.

He obviously wasn't trying to get red and yellow cards, it's just how he plays...

He got better as the season went on tbh.

Leeds away and the Blackburn home game he was lucky not to get arrested for assault.

He performed when He wanted to or like against Middlesbrough when he wanted to impress.

Most the time he wasn't worth the wages and I thought that he was a goner towards end of Jan he was that bad

Dean's out of contract isn't he? That's another centre half I would be happy with alongside the collossus.

£500k Barnsley want supposedly.

Was having a look through your squad earlier - going to stick some money on you lot making the top six if you can keep hold of most of your players, especially with the way you finished the season. Bjellend (sp?) and McEachran expected to be back for the start of the season?

Wipe the floor is going a step too far. The chasm seems to get bigger every time the League One teams demonstrate their worth. We're going to be 'no better than most league two sides' by the time the play-off final is over.

Didn't see either of the games mentioned in the first sentence, so can't talk about those. For me for most of the season he wasn't bad at all, played well and his quality was there to see. Got better as the season went on and in the end Baker and Flint weren't that bad of a center-back partnership, played fairly well apart from 2 games (Hull and Brighton). I didn't see any really bad performances from Baker all season tbh.

What's the finances like at Millwall nowadays Jockney? I ask because, after watching both play off games, you would, with all respect, struggle in the Championship with that side as I'm sure you know already. Would you have the £££ to make a couple of decent signings if you win the PO's?

Barnsley battered us, but they were better than any side I've seen us face in League 1, especially at home, for a good 2-3 years. That includes last year's Preston, Bristol City in the home league game etc. The gulf isn't that massive to the bottom half of the Championship. The top end of the table is where the whopping gap comes IMO. In terms of structure, pay, wages, expenditure, all round.

You don't think? I thought it was a huge gulf in quality to be honest when we came up. Bear in mind what we did to L1.

TBH it's one of those you only notice when you see your side play in both leagues. It's a big gulf, that's for certain, just look at Freeman, Agard, even Flint for example.

Eh? What am I missing?

Like I said to Charlie Adam's agent earlier, Flint was voted POTS.

honestly it is huge and you won't know what hit you when you get up there.

PNE made a few decent signings and had a experienced manager that the reason they done alright.
