Not sure if O'Dowda is any better than Wes but regardless, it's been a cracking couple of weeks transfer wise for us yokels.

Huge credit to Lansdown for pulling his finger out, was worried when we retracted our first offer to Tomlin with him ready to sign.

Likewise, but both are fantastic prospects. O'Neil touted O'Dowda as 'the future of Irish football' so he must have something about him. Both absolutely rapid as well, delighted we have both.

Massively pleased with Kalas in. Obviously our defence needed massive surgery. We will have two new full backs as well Dennis Odoi from Lokeren and a left back from somewhere. Anyone has to be better than Garbutt who was dire last year. Rumours are its Malone from Cardiff where I know Cardiff fans will be celebrating in the streets about. Jazz Richards is meant to be going to other way which is a right result for us too.
Only people celebrating Malone possibly leaving are the same idiots that think we're good enough to push for the top 6. If he goes it means playing that useless fuckwit Fabio who I don't think has ever tackled someone. And as for Richards, quite why we would need him is a mystery to me. We have Peltier who is a solid Championship full back, and Connolly is more than capable of doing a job there as well. Unless we're planning on flooding the right side of the pitch this season...

Very happy with John Swift. Can't complain with getting an England u21 international, who had a good year in the Championship last season, on a free.

Don't worry SERNWA we aren't signing anyone either, except for some goalkeeper to sit on our bench

Absolute shithole.
Yep,
Tried living and working in the capital for a while a few years ago and hated it! The City of London and Westminster are very nice but full of tourists. The greater city is an absolute tip apart from a few places.
I couldn't wait to transfer back to the beautiful West country.

London for the day to watch City is more than enough.

That is piss poor from Rotherham if they've missed out on Bradshaw over the sake of 100K.

He'd probably rather join Barnsley anyway, if given the choice, and the finances were similar.

This is the most pro active I can ever remember Barnsley in the transfer market, making some good signings and maybe they won't be in for the usual season of struggle. For the price they've got him Bradshaw is a bargain, if he settles at this level they will make a killing on him.

Don't understand why Rotherham fans are so upset about not signing Bradshaw or Gregory. Neither will make much difference to them staying up or not

Apparently they are interested in Dean Whitehead from us. He would be an excellent signing, was outstanding in the first half of last season before his injury. A bit down the pecking order here now with all the players we have signed this summer

Hope he scores an absolute shit load at this level so we can earn a hefty sell-on for once.

Not sure how he will go on to be honest, he isn't the quickest and he needs his chances creating, but he is clinical, decent with his feet and he finds space/pockets to poach in. If Barnsley have a good season, I can see him getting 15 odd. Providing he actually plays every week anyway.

Barnsley aren't gonna be overly blessed with great pace up front TBH. Winnall and Bradshaw, good as they are, aren't the quickest and wouldn't scare too many in this league. Pace is the killer at this level IMO.

Agree, Andre Gray misses more than he scores but he's rapid and with a good Burnley midfield behind him he had chance after chance playing on the shoulder. Benik Afobe was the same, I wouldn't say he is a particularly great player but his pace means chances come by his way regularly.

Kodija at your place is probably another.

I'm quite happy to have Winnall and Bradshaw up front supported by goal scoring midfielders in Hourihane and Moncur in the centre and a couple of pacey wingers out wide in Hammill and Williams (or a new signing).

I don't think pacey strikers are something we have cash for so we'll have to work with what we have.

The Wednesday
Lewis Price to Rotherham, seemingly prefers being their back up instead of our third choice keeper.

Linked with Charlie Mulgrew

10 clubs supposedly want Sam Johnstone on loan for the season.

I understand us not getting wanting to get stung by a January recall again but i'd still much prefer Johnstone to Anders Chocolate Firegaard.

Bradshaw isn't slow at all. He certainly isn't fast but he's no slouch, in fact with his hamstrings a touch less speed probably will help him stay injury free. He'll stretch back fours in any division.

Where I think he will struggle is that since he joined us originally from Shrewsbury we bulked him up (he gained a lot of muscle) and made him into a jack of all trades striker. He is strong, relatively nimble, a good finisher, can get in behind but can also come short. When played up front on his own he leads the line and creates space for the midfielders, he's great.

However whenever we played him in a 2 up top he seemed to be invisible and his influence on the game was much less pronounced. He was just less useful in general, so if Barnsley want to play him in a 2 I think he may have a tough time adapting quickly. To me his style is suited for being a lone striker and not part of a 2.

It has been suggested that he will be playing as part of a two man strike force.

Jonny, I wasn't criticising Bradshaw or Winnall for that matter, they're both fine players. It's just my opinion gleaned when we came up last year, that those type of forwards aren't as successful at Championship level. Most clubs have the same powerful forwards but they have serious pace as well. The speed of forwards in this division seems to be more of a weapon as the power is negated. Using my club as an example, in L1, Wilbraham scored 20 but he wouldn't do that at this level while Kodjia who is powerful (not as powerful as Wilbs) and very quick did score 20.
I wish them well if played as a pair and am quite happy to be proven wrong.

Oh I know and I wasn't trying to prove anyone wrong or right, just interjecting that he isn't as slow as people seem to be making out. Strikers at this level with similar levels of speed have scored goals though (Billy Sharp, Ross McCormack, Jordan Rhodes).

Not trying to compare those to Tom of course though, just that pace isn't everything.

I was also going to mention McCormack as the exception, quality player!
I am certainly not saying Bradshaw won't be a success in this division just that he may find it a lot more difficult as he won't be able to use his undoubted strength to his advantage so much as he has previously and doesn't have the pace of many up here. It could be the making of him as he will have to find another way. McCormack is a very intelligent player and uses his movement to pull defences all over the place. Maybe Bradshaw can do the same.
