Think the best strikers in this league in recent years have been

Chris Martin
Benik Afobe
Jordan Rhodes
Andre Gray
Ross McCormack
Troy Deeney (when he was down here)

All are roughly in the 10m bracket. No offense to Brizzle fans but I wouldn't class Kodija amongst such company. As I said if he can score 20+ again next season then maybe he is up there with the best in the league.
I don't think that matters though Mark. We don't want to sell him, the market is bloated, he's under a nice long contract and we can afford to say no. Hence the expected fee. If clubs want JK, show us the money or do one. Simples!

Bogdan confirmed today and he saved a pen with his first touch this evening. Solid signing really, won't be one of the best keepers in the league but he probably won't let us down either. Glad it's a loan as well, meaning if he turns out to be garbage then he's not stuck on a three year deal.

Liverpool Echo reporting the Brannagan loan is hanging in the balance as Liverpool want a clause guaranteeing that he gets at least 75% of gametime or else we get fined and right now we can't commit to that. One way or another this should be decided tomorrow as Liverpool are set to fly out to the US. I could see a clause like this becoming more popular within top level clubs to be honest.

Here's a few fee comparisons, since the market's gone nuts (the last two years).

Gillingham holding out for £3m for Dack. The same price that Wednesday got Forestieri for last summer, £1m more than we got Tomlin for this summer.

Conor Washington goes to QPR from Posh in January for £3.5m after scoring 18 in 64. Tom Bradshaw goes from Walsall to Barnsley for circa £550k after scoring 34 in 67 in all competitions for Walsall at the same level.

Fulham reportedly quote clubs £15m for 29 year old Ross McCormack, six months prior to this 26 year old prolific goalscorer Charlie Austin went for £4m.

Richard Stearman wins POTS of the season for a side that marginally miss out on the POs after their first season back at this level and goes for £2m to Fulham from Wolves. Meanwhile, Tarkowski goes for £6m from Brentford to Burnley to keep their bench nice and warm.

The point of this is that you can't just say 'well, Gray only went for £9m, you can't expect more for Kodjia' because that's absolute nonsense. For starters, Kodjia scored more goals than Gray did in his first season at this level, in a side that finished 18th, rather than a side that finished 6th. He scored the most goals from open play in the league ffs.

You can't compare transfer fees in this market because of clubs situations and players situations. Obviously there's a benchmark, but that usually works in favour of the selling team and they can hold out for more. Certain clubs get more money for their players, Posh being one of them, and it totally depends on the financial situation of the team. We have absolutely no need to sell; Kodjia's going to be at the forefront of our plans going forward. Of course, if he tries to force a move, that's when it'll happen, otherwise he'll be staying put, but even so he won't be going for any less than he originally would have been. We aren't going to bend over backwards for a player that we took a fairly expensive gamble on and brought him into English football.

As for people saying that Kodjia isn't among the top strikers in this league, based on what? None of us had heard of him before this summer, so we only have this season to judge him on, and he's came in and hit 20 in a side that went through a spell of scoring 3 goals from 19 games in open play. It's nonsense.

I don't think I'm being biased or unreasonable here, I've even made the effort of putting into perspective other transfer fees where clubs have oversold and undersold to prove a point on comparison of other strikers in the league that Kodjia is up there with.

Tl;dr - You can't compare what Gray went for last summer to what Kodjia will potentially go for either this summer, or more likely next summer.

Can someone explain to me why there is 'no way Kodjia is worth as much as Gray was last year'?

Alright, he is a year or two older but Kodjia has a better goal ratio than Gray did.

I imagine he is off though and good luck to him. Those posters on OTIB who think he wouldnt want to leave us for Villa are living in a fantasy.

Joe Allen going to Stoke for £13m reportedly, probably frees up Charlie Adam who will probably go to someone like Wednesday or Villa who will be willing to take on his wages. Still only 30.

Gillingham wanting 3m for Dack puts into perspective how well we've done to get Nick Powell a better player on a free transfer. Loads of fans including myself wanted us to sign Dack as well. Still think he'll get his Championship move though, a club will probably cough up on deadline day or sooner.

I also think he will. Gillingham fans are pretty resigned to the fact that they're going to lose him, but it's not really surprising that no club have been willing to risk £3m on a player that's only proven in L1, especially given that a lot of ours and MK's best players from L1 very much struggled with the step up at first.

I know what you mean mate. When we were relegated from the Prem our two main assets were Steven Fletcher and Matt Jarvis. We didn't have to sell either so we could quote obscene prices on both... we ended up getting 25m for the pair (in reality they we probably worth around half of that).

Not having to sell puts you in a very good position. I used to be able to say the same about Benik Afobe 12 months ago... sadly that all went to shit when Steve Morgan put the club up for sale.

I'm surprised there haven't been many bids, but that doesn't mean I'm resigned to losing him at all. £3m is barely a risk for you Championship sorts these days anyway is it? Thought you were bathing in the cash?

On Nick Powell - if you get the Crewe one, then he's a top player. If you get the one his career trajectory indicates he's become, then it's probably a waste of time.

Bristol City fans are forgetting one important thing, Kodjia is not homegrown, which lowers his price considerably.

It may change what clubs are willing to pay for him, but it isn't going to make us value him at any less simply because he's not English.

I'll take your Powell and raise you a Swift.

Also on a free, only turned 21 last month, just come back from winning the Toulon tournament. 7 goals in 27 for Brentford last season so somewhat proven at this level already.

You rarely get a current England U21 player on a free. In today's market they can go for a million or two on that alone..

Still would like Dack mind, but not for £3m.

Fine, he's French. Bid less than you would for a comparable English born player and we'll keep turning bids down. Suits us. :2thumb:

With Boro signing Negredo today I reckon one of their strikers may end up out on loan at a championship club. Probably Nugent...

Josh Bohui, one of our youth team players who's been playing for the England Under 17s, has left to join Man Utd. Would have liked to see him come through towards the first team this year so a bit gutted.

Another one that will never be seen or heard of again then.

Such a shame that you always see young talent have their head turned by the big clubs and their agents.

He'll be going to United on 5k a week possibly even more, hard for a 17 year old to say no to that and a very cushy lifestyle in United's development squad.

I agree, I don't blame the kid for wanting to go but these moves tend to hinder these youngster's careers rather than enhancing them. This is why they need agents who actually care about that rather than their own bank balance.

Don't think we're seeing much money for it either. Guess that's part of the reason why we closed the academy :(

Glaring omissions from this list are Danny Ings and Jay Rodriguez, who unlike any of the above, are FULL England internationals. Ings scored 26 goals in 45 games in 2013/14 and was named "Championship Player of the Year" that season.

Also missing from the list is Charlie Austin, who bagged 28 in 40 games during the 2012/13 season.

Austin's "low" £4 million transfer to QPR came after a failed medical at Hull, who had agreed a £6 million fee for the player who had only one year left on his deal. Burnley had to cut their losses and sell to QPR the very day BEFORE the start of their 2013/14 promotion season. Ings took up Austin's mantle and scored double figures in the 2014/15 Premier League season before letting his contract run down. Burnley got an £8 million fee, set by a tribunal in April, because Ings was under 24.

Yep, some itty bitty compensation package no doubt.
