Villa have supposedly bid £500k for Alan Judge as well. Steal that would be.
He won't go for that little, we'd rather hold onto him (and he'd command a better wage with 6 months of injury free football under his belt)

I would hope for £2m, reckon we'll sell for £1.5m and a sell on. He would have gone for much closer to £7-8m if he'd been fit in the summer :(

I'm not saying no comparison I'm just saying a one off transfer shouldn't be used as a bench mark against other transfers (ie McCormack, Gray and others). If you get to the final days of the window and have a team is desperate then yes you match the circumstances we sold Kodjia in. A player is only worth what a team is willing to pay for him, you suggest Hogan will definitely be off this window but won't entertain the idea of a price below £15m, the two ideas contradict each other, if you want to cash in you may have to accept what a team is willing to pay whether that be £9m or over £15m. Hogan's injury history will also potentially lower his price, just because he's had a good 10 months it doesn't take away big question marks teams will have, again if it comes back to desperation and time restrictions teams may gamble on it.

That's the point though, we don't want to cash in. Ideally we want to keep him. We know his worth and he'll only leave for that amount. With more than one bidder, crazy January prices and us not wanting/needing to sell, then we're in a healthy position to negotiate. We got just shy of £6m for Tarkowski in the January window last season, and a total of £9.5m for Gray towards the end of the transfer window in August of that season. Gray had scored the same amount of goals in almost twice as many games.

Markets are guided by other prices and similar transactions. Whether that be Kodjia, McCormack, Gray or any other. There's an upward trajectory in transfer prices, and it's rising worryingly quickly. We should be able to get a very healthy amount for Hogan and would probably cite the Kodjia transfer as relevant when discussing fees with bidding parties.

Can't wait for Transfer window just so we can have our regular "Nugents signing on Friday" rumours and this time them maybe actually be true.

So much for the Reading fan who said they don't spend any money
The club are specialists at making me look like an idiot.

Seems like our Chinese takeover is due very soon, expect us to have a similar January to your Summer window.

The club nearly came close to not paying wages in October, I'd imagine the new Chinese owners will be looking at shoring pertinent issues like that up first.

Oh if you have money you can have Ola John back, he has made exactly 0 league appearances for us so far.

You do make it sound like there wouldn't have been any question marks over Kodija either? He also only had a good 10 months, so there doesn't seem to be much of a difference here. You have to weigh up an injury record (none of which are "recurring" injuries) against the facts that his goalscoring rate is over 50% better than Kodija's was in terms of minutes per goal, Hogan is younger, and British, which always pushes the price up. By most measures, you would have to agree that Hogan is a better / more valuable player.

As toshj says, ideally we'd keep him around, we aren't looking to cash in, and we have a history of getting incredibly good transfer fees for players, so there is no reason we shouldn't be able to get a good fee this time.

The only reason I'm sure he'll go is that there are so many teams "interested" in him and a lot of teams around with money who need a goalscorer. The fee we'd be looking to expect is drawn from the number of goals he's scored, the rate at which he's scored them, and the kind of fees other strikers have gone for. Those are the only ways you can estimate what you might get for a sale, rather than your tactic which seems to be "assume any team other than Bristol City won't be able to get as much money for it's good players" as you seem to be happy for us to compare against any other sales, but not Kodija's.

Just because our name is Brentford doesn't mean we'll get screwed around, I think we've shown that before.

In a change of topic, we've been linked with Loftus-Cheek (loan) in the local press. Would make sense considering Shelvey's impending ban and the AFCON that'll take Diame out of the squad for a few weeks in Jan.

Linked with a move for Judge as well but I don't think it'll happen till the summer

Aye we were quite close in Summer had it not been for his injury unless I'm mistaken? Problem is at that point though is I'd be pretty disappointed if we weren't preparing for a return to the PL next Summer. Reckon he could make the step up having just come back from said injury having no top tier experience?

If you look at the time he's been fit, he's the top assister in the Championship, by some distance, and he got a lot of goals last season (came second in the player of the year ranks overall for the league).

I think he be a starter for 5-6 teams in the PL, but Newcastle already have a lot of strength in depth in attacking positions so he might not be so lucky. If fully fit and given license to play his game, I'd back him to do really well up there.

Personally, as I also follow Newcastle, I'd love Judge and Hogan to end up there rather than anywhere else if Brentford can't keep them.

Bristol Post have finally picked up on the story.

He signs and we'll be going back to 3-4-3/3-5-2 imo.

No fair enough, it's a great point. I think there is a massive jump and the quality in the majority of our current squad are somewhere in between the two divisions any way.

I also think it's looking likely that Mitrovic will be leaving, whether it's in Jan or the Summer.

Would've thought Taylor Moore would have been worth trying in a back 5 with wing backs.

£9m bid for Hogan rejected, falls "well short" of the clubs valuation, we're telling interested clubs it's £15m plus add one we'll need.

West Ham apparently also interested now.

In talks with Jota to bring him back now too. Would love a forward 3 with Hogan, Judge and Jota, back to what we had a couple of years ago, and much better than anything we've had since.

Apparently our bid was not true / lower than the £9m quoted.

I think holding out for £15m is ludicrous given his contract situation and injury history. His transfer fee will fall considerably by the Summer, and for what? a midtable finish?

7 points off the play offs, with Jota, Judge and Rico Henry to return in January (3 players who would easily get into our first XI and make it a lot better instantly)

However, I do agree we'd be unlikely to make the play offs. It's less holding on to him to make a proper push this year, than holding him to a market value we've seen many similarly talented players go for in recent windows.

And the bid was £9m with add ons on top.

Depends on how much you believe the papers..

On Wednesday reporting that we made a £9m bid for Scott Hogan. Friday reporting that we've got massive financial problems and are set to become the next Portsmouth.

We've been linked with...

IN

Sam Johnstone (Man United) - GK - Loan with view to buy
Alex Smithies (QPR) - GK - Permanent - no fee mentioned
Carl Jenkinson (Arsenal) - RB - Loan
Robert Snodgrass (Hull) - RW - Permanent - no fee mentioned though seeing as he's not long signed an extension, VERY unlikely.
James McCarthy (Everton) - CM - Permanent - no fee mentioned
Conor Hourihane (Barnsley) - CM - Permanent - no fee mentioned
Scott Hogan (Brentford) - ST - Permanent - no fee mentioned

OUT

Jordan Amavi - LB - Permanent - Liverpool and a couple of French teams
Tshbiloa - CM - Loan - Reading have been mentioned

That's about all I've seen recently.

We've been linked with some right back at Walsall who's on loan from Southampton. How inspiring.
