Cian Bolger eyed as a replacement for Flint if he goes, 'kin hell we're going down.

Also we've offered Josh Scowen a deal but I assume he'll have better offers clubs wise, maybe not wages. Doubt he's too fond of Johnson either given he shoved him at right back whilst he was managing Barnsley.

Cian Bogler made 42 appearences in a team that conceded the joint 2nd least goals in League One last season, can't be too awful surely? Played for the wankers down the road for 3 years (on loan) though, needs his head checked out before we sign him. No chance with Scowen in my opinion.

May well be decent but Flint is so vital to us, we can't lose him for multi million pounds and then sign Cian Bolger and expect him to fill his boots.

Fair enough, I agree we would most likely need to spend as much money as we sold Flint for (possibly more) on his replacement.

I'd be very happy with Bolger as a potential replacement should the worst happen. Mentioned it on otib a couple of weeks ago. Dominating centre half, chips in with a few goals, a very similar type of player to Flint. As Josh says, an integral part of Fleetwood's impressive defensive record. How much have you seen of him to completely write it off, JJ?

Couple of times last season mate, that's about it.

If we lose Flint we're going to get big, big money by this division's standards for a defender so I expect an established, proven replacement. We shall see, I'm praying he stays. Just signed a four year deal but contracts are pretty meaningless in football nowadays.

An established, proven replacement will also cost a fair whack, not to mention wages. And it doesn't bring any guarantee of success. The so-called 'proven' players we signed last summer (Tomlin, O'Neil, Matthews) were the ones that didn't work out.

Someone like Bolger has the potential to be an excellent player at this level and would also allow us to invest the money in other areas of the team and strengthen as a whole. Signing players before they're worth crazy money, developing them and then reaping the rewards is the way to go, for me.

Look at Flint. Got him for £300k (remember when Swindle thought they were ripping us off ) he's become a crucial player for us over several years and we'd be looking at way more than 10x that now should he go. Or Kodjia - 20 goals and quintupled our investment in one season.

I agree, in an ideal world we'll be able to keep hold of him and this will all be moot. But if we do lose him I'm glad to see we'll be looking to find the next Aden Flint

Bolger played as a right back against us at the gate, is his main position cb then? He was a stand out performer against us anyway.

Am I the only one that thinks Flint is overrated? Decent defender at this level, nothing more.
I agree actually, but he's still probably one of the best players in the squad, and plastered all over my profile (mainly because he likes parties and saying no).

A couple of lads I work with who both have season tickets at Fleetwood, rate him very highly and say he's been a standout for them this season.

What with our need for defenders and him being Irish and cheap, it wouldn't suprise me if we've had a look at some point.

He also managed 7 in 33 for Accrington, which doesn't sound so prolific.

3 years ago? Hugill was pouring jagerbombs in Revolutons when he was 20.

Barkhuizen scored 10 in 40 for Morecambe season before last and he's class.

I would expect Magnusson to come in for Flint and Wright to move over to the right side of cb.

At fault for a lot of goals and has scored a high number of OG
He's decent at this level, as David said. He hasn't had the best of seasons but there's a reason why Premier League clubs are supposedly interested in him. Oh, and he's scored 1 own goal this season. That's like saying Korey Smith scores a lot of own goals.

Magnusson and Wright wouldn't be great, we would have no tall and commanding centre-back so we'd just get bullied in the air to be honest.

Don't let your agenda get in the way of the facts.

Decent?

The only reason people like him is the Swindon thing

Over half my post was fact  the facts are that top-end Championship clubs and possibly low-end Premier League clubs are interested in him and he's only scored 1 own goal this season, contrary to your claim he scores a high number of own goals.

Thanks for that opinion but as someone who watches Flint every week he's a good player at this level.

Again, there is PL interest as there was last year, but SF_ said he's fucking shit so....

My opinion, for what it's worth, is if teams play a certain way (based on a passing, or quick passing game) it's very easy to target Flint and cut through. We've had an awful lot of success against Flint over the years for Swindon and Coty. But against a lot of the long ball teams at this level (which is the majority) he's probably quite effective. He's got a lot of starts at this level now, and Bristol City wouldn't have kept him for so long in their team if he was useless.

I don't think he'd start for us, but Bjelland and Dean are both very good CBs, especially for the way we play. Not sure I'd have him over Barbet or Egan either, again partially as we push quite high up the pitch most of the time, and that is where Flint would be most exposed.

I agree with you there, he's not the quickest or the best footballer but he's a damn good defender. He wouldn't fit into your system, but we play to his strengths naturally with him being one of our better players, and when teams play to his strengths (i.e long ball) he doesn't miss a thing in the air.

Anyway, back on topic - Wolves eyeing up a move for John O'Shea apparently. Welp.

It was the high ball over him and the pace/strength of Che Adams that lead to our goal at Ashton Gate. He got exposed twice in the same match when we beat you back in 2015 as well. In fact, he has looked poor every time he has played against us.
