Weren't you in the same position as us, sold your star striker Kodjia (Afobe) and then desperate to replace him with anyone before the deadline? In the process you then pay over the odds because clubs know you'll be desperate for a striker before the window closes.
It's why we've still not replaced Hogan. Been down to 1 striker since Jan, thank fuck he didn't get injured.

Not sure why they sold him to Forest and bought Graham Dorrans for nearly treble the fee...
Forest have made a couple of good cheap signings, would have loved McKay and Cummings here for the prices they paid.

In the long term it's a good thing you didn't, January transfers always seem to be inflated compared to summer ones. Also it helps when you have someone like Jota scoring for fun, takes the pressure off Vibe.

Yeah it was desperate attempt at a last minute bid. We sold Kodjia, brought in Engvall for £2.5m and he's played once in the league, so they knew he wasn't ready and tried getting in another I assume. Engvall has scored 7 in 13 for some Swedish side in the top league but I doubt he'll ever make it here.
If we're not going to play him (would hope he's going to at least get a good chance pre season to show what he can do) best bet is to try and fob him off back to Sweden and make as much back on him based on his good form out there.

Are refunds available?

I'm sure he'll come good, but whether he can play in Bruce's system of feeding on scraps and having the ball lumped to your head I'm not convinced.

Didn't want him to sign and have been justified in saying that at the time despite others claiming I was wrong to say he would do nothing for us, he isn't really anything position wise, not good enough in front of goal to be a striker, or clever enough to be a 10 or inside forward type. Misses too many chances, not good enough in support of another forward but scores the occasional well taken goal or gets a few in a row so people talk themselves into him.

He reminds me to what I used to think about Jay Boothroyd when he was with us, clearly got some talent but never seems to produce it consistently enough.

I don't agree. I like Mason and think he's not had the chance to settle in. We've been so weak at the back in the last two seasons that it didn't really matter who we had up front, they weren't going to get much service. Mason will kick on somewhere and I, for one, will be sad to see him go. It was the same with ALF. Even Dicko, when he goes. Which I am sure he will.

Totally agree, though if we lose Jota now and have to effectively replace both it'll be really hard. Contract talks are apparently progressing well, but I'm still pretty certain he'll be sold this summer.

Trust the board to get it right. They had a bit of a shocker of a window a couple of years ago but most of our transfers since then have been golden.

We'd probably pay £3-4m? Trouble would be that you'd have to subsidise his wages for us.

Malone joined Huddersfield, another good signing.

Hull interested in Zohore, think anything over £10 million might make us consider selling.

Scott Malone signed up from Fulham. Looked decent both times we played them.

Apparently has a decent chant?

Best full back we played against last season, though I would question his discipline in the Prem - could have easily been sent off twice against us, got away with so many possible yellows. Though we may have just caught him on some bad days.

Malone was shit for us but then again we never gave him a chance, just like Winnall. The decision to release him turned out well.

Ruben Neves and Willy Boly to be confirmed before the end of the week according to Nuno.

Also he says we're playing 3 at the back this season, anyone else do that and how has it worked out in this league?

Zola did

But you have a far superior manager and will probably have the players to fit that formation. Redknapp has said that he may go with 3 at the back as well, depending on who else comes in.

3 at the back is our best formation, we were playing it a fair amount last season including in the play-offs, and looks like we'll be sticking with it next season.

Steve Cotteril did and City got spanked every game

Bruce did it for a few games...

Notts Forest 2-1 Villa
Villa 0-1 Ipswich
Villa 1-3 Reading
Fulham 3-1 Villa

So yeah, that went well.

Still think 3 at the back with wing backs would be our best system, there's no way a rigid 4-4-2 will get the best out of players like Abdi and Forestieri.

Yeah we did under Cotterill, it's more than manageable but it depends how you play it. We were far too expansive with it and kept getting picked off, yet Reading found the right balance with it and Watford got promoted playing 3-5-2 a few years back.

Bit cheesy but I don't mind it. I like that they have been promoting fans work on the twitter feed. There's nothing else to talk about at the moment.

He's making space for Jack Price and Lee Evans in the middle. Willy Boly sounds like a porn star. All in favour of that.
However, slightly less encouraging is that Boly played just 4 times in the league for Porto last season. This loan sounds a little bit like a favour to get a fringe player off the payroll for a year. Would rather have had Felipe.

I guess this means Doherty, Iorfa and Krause will all be on the phone to RadioCabs.

I understand we will be loaning players in from top PL clubs. I know this because it was cunningly hidden in a press release saying "We will be loaning players in from top PL clubs". ffs. I miss the days of MM and Kenny Jackett when they would say "Nothing in sight" and next thing there's a new player. These days, we seem to let everyone know our business.

It's a sad state of affairs when I'm more enthused about Birmingham City's possible signings than ours.

Yeah I'm not a big fan of the Willy Boly transfer to be honest. He doesn't seem that great and he rejected the chance move here last season too. Even now he seems to be waiting on a more attractive move to come along before commiting to Wolves.

Being honest do you think any of your big names saw Wolves as an ideal destination? The Fosun/Mendes mafia have a lot to do with it and ridiculous wages.

Shame football is this way but we are all culpable as fans and clubs.
