Fuck off Mark, you've whinged like fuck in the past about the direction football was heading in.

Now your club's at it, you can't wait to tell everyone just which ridiculous deal you're lining up this week.

You think you're Tony Montana.

Here you are PrestonCha. A quick search and I found these posts from young Tony.

God forbid poor old Derby might need to spend another 6/7 million on a another midfielder. It must be a hard life supporting Derby.

Didn't know those stats, fair play.

Just hard to adapt to transfer fees and such these days, especially in the Championship. Derby spending 25m this season, Ross McCormack going for 11m, QPR's crazy spending a few years ago, etc...

I suppose it just shows how dominant money is becoming in football more and more so every year.

Are Derby really going to throw money around again? It's an insult to nearly every club in this division that you get away with it every year. It's made even worse in the sense you seem to bottle promotion in dramatic fashion, considering how many millions you waste in the process.

Amazes me when you say players like Butterfield, Bradley Johnson and Hendrick are all fighting for one position... at a Championship club. Most of us would give anything to have either one of those players at our clubs.

Nah, not having that at all. What did Scholes do that was so vastly superior to that of what Gerrard offered?

I'm not assed what the press said about him, I'm basing my opinion on what I saw of him with my own eyes.

As a CM, he had everything.

Erm won the PL time and again and every fucking trophy going at club level.

I'm basing it on watching both live and on TV, Scholes was just simply better.

We conceded 10 less than your lot and 16 less than Birmingham, so I'm genuinely curious as to where your conclusion comes from? Defence was never the problem last season, the problem lay in creating chances... That's about it. Kodjia could put the ones we created away, Hogan needs to settle, McBigMac speaks for himself and then you have Agbonlahor....
I think we had one of the best defensive records up until Rowett got sacked. And only conceded one in the last three under Redknapp. It was only because of Zola who played with wing-backs alongside Dacres-Cogley, Grounds & Robinson that we conceded so many, all three should have been nowhere near the starting XI. If we can get Mitchell Dijks in from Ajax then we will have our best defence since we got relegated.

Nsue - Shotton/Morrison - Roberts - Dijks(?)

I always remember an interview with Sir Alex before an England game where he was praising the virtues of Scholes and Gerrard, years ago. Although he thought Gerrard was a fabulous player, he said something like 'Gerrard will win you games, Scholes will win you titles'. In hindsight, he was right.
Although they're different players with different attributes, I would also pick Scholes out of the 2 although Gerrard was some player.

I'm sure Gerrard would have those Prem medals round his neck too, had he played in the same United team.

Anyway, I'm not gonna fall out wi' ya over Gerrard and Scholes.

Opinions, innit.

Did Man U ever try to buy Gerrard? What a midfield that would have been if they did! 4 from Beckham, Scholes, Gerrard, Keane and Giggs.

I think most of the giants tried tempting him away from Liverpool at some point, but to no avail.

Even though Liverpool themselves are one of the worlds biggest clubs, they never quite had the squad quality of United, Real Madrid etc.

Has it gone tits up at Derby or something? Couldn't imagine them cashing in on players like Hughes and Ince a couple of seasons back.

Not really, it's just not sustainable spending X amount every summer without bringing some cash back in. We had a go for a few years but we're paying for not taking our chances now.

Disappointing to see both Hughes and Ince go but also we have to be realistic when you take the manager into consideration. He clearly didn't fancy both players IMO and both wanted to play in the Prem so no hard feelings. The major disappointing thing was the Hughes fee, 8 rising to a potential 11.3 for Ince isn't bad business considering we paid a maximum of 4.5 million (if all add ons have been met) for him 2 years ago though.

Gives him so money to bring his own big players, over to you Gary.

I think personally what we've done is more akin to hiring a second assistant manager as well as player, I know it's been said that there's no coaching etc in it, but Terry will be like another manager on the pitch.

I disagree about Terry at Birmingham, Terry at Birmingham would have been more of a Ferdinand at QPR imo, I mean this could turn out the same way but we'll see.

Regarding your last point, I'd love to know where you got that from considering we had the 5th best defensive record in the league last season without the defensive stability others have talked about with Amavi getting injured, Cissokho coming in, getting dropped when we sign Taylor, Amavi getting another go, replaced again by Taylor, Elphick starting alongside Chester with Baker replacing him but getting injured every 5 minutes to Jedinak eventually playing in centre back, then at right back starting with Hutton, signing De Laet, replacing Hutton, De Laet getting injured, Hutton coming back, signing Bree and those two rotating..... Need I say more?? And we've just added another fantastic defender to that lot.

We conceded 10 less than your lot and 16 less than Birmingham, so I'm genuinely curious as to where your conclusion comes from? That's news to me. Not bad at first then he got scared of the ball... He was/is a little useless if I'm honest. Villa Loyal was a bit nicer in saying he's undecided. I hope he comes good, but he'll now be 4th choice at CB behind Terry, Chester and Baker.
he started off ok, but tailed off big time. There was a lot going on at the club though and I think it might of got to a few players. We shall see what happens next season, but I expect massive improvements.

If he stays. I think if we get an offer for him he'll be off.

Busy few days for us, lots of rumours..

Danny Williams has confirmed he has left Reading, should sign with Huddersfield any day.

Al-Habsi may be about to join Al-Hilal - Rumoured £315k fee agreed. Closer to home, more pay and a longer contract - can see the appeal.

We may have agreed a fee with Millwall for Jake Cooper. Probably around £1m sale.

Middlesbrough met Chris Gunter's £1m release clause, but sounds like has rejected and will sign a new 3 year contract with us.

Williams and Al-Habsi are big losses, will be interesting to see how the new owners react. Heard they put a lot of effort into keeping Stam, hopefully they give him the funds to really build a team to his liking.

We're being linked with Alan Hutton, no idea if there's any truth in it but if Chris Gunter is available for a million quid I'd like to think we'd be going down that avenue.

Fuck off, he did well last season, but then I suppose one of him or De Laet have to leave. Can't have as promising a talent as Bree at 3rd choice.

i like Hutton, he has heart and a pair of bollocks. Not the best footballer, but he's a grafter. Not sure why Wednesday are after him though. Hope we keep hold of him tbf.

I know I'm biased but James Bree has the potential to reach the same level as John Stones. As much as I love Hourihane I firmly believe that in the long run Bree was your real steal from us. So yeah hurry up and develop him some more then sell him for £40million please coz I'm sure we will have put a sell on clause in there somewhere.

Ince and Williams both signed up for us.

Rumours we want Scott Malone at Fulham too, scored against us and got in team of the season. Is he Premier League quality?

I remember when people were talking about Micah Richards being the future England captain to replace John Terry, now they're both at Villa in the Championship :err:

He's going to sign a new contract with us. Was available for £1m last Summer too, after an impressive Euros, and no-one came in for him.

He's not even that good, I would be indifferent if he left as we could get in better offensively or defensively as he's not brilliant at either. Solid Championship fullback who would need replacing in the top league. Would be a risk to sell, but not the end of the World.

Aye, but one is lauded as a massive signing, the other is rotting in the reserves whilst we desperately try to offload him.

Micah Richards' finest moment at Villa Park was when he scored the winner for Man City in the FA Cup in 2006 and swore during his live post-match interview.

Think you guys are going about your business exactly the right way. Buy the best Championship players so that if you do come back down, you are already set up with some of the best players at this level.
