Just to offer my two bobs worth, I think the deal is a bit daft.

I said exactly the same when we were chucking £9m at Dwight Gayle and Andre Gray, as good as they would've been had they joined it doesn't make up for the fact that the rest of our team was sub-standard and I think it's the same for Wolves. At things stand you've supposedly one of Europe's hottest prospects in midfield but you've still got Danny Batth and Nouha Dicko behind and infront of him as things stand.

We'll see how he gets on, I just think you'd have been better off spending £15m improving your team as a whole rather than just filling one position.

This.

I remember when we signed Dani Parejo from Real Madrid. He was their next big thing and we got him under the Flavio Briatore era. He came in, couldn't settle in the championship as he didn't get the space and didn't have the players around him to make the runs etc that he needed.

Whilst I agree with most of what you say, I think (rightly or wrongly) players like Dicko and Batth will be sold. It seems the approach Fosun/Mendes/Nuno are taking is a complete overhaul of our current squad, and bringing in their own players. Feels like when you're picking a fantasy football team almost. I think you'll see a lot more outgoings of our current squad than incoming within the next week or two.

Sunderland Echo reporting that they're in discussions with us about Maxi Gradel for 3m. Has a huge amount of talent, especially if he drops down a level. Fitness and consistency is the reason he's not making more appearances here. Would be sad to see him go though.

Spot on, both of you. Although I bet I'm not the only one who is having to Google Dani Parejo.

I think our favourite dream right now is the look on Neves' face when he's got Lee Evans on one side, Edwards on the other and Iorfa hoofing it over his head behind him. Well, I tell ya, there's no fucking "satisfaction or your money back" clause. You should have Googled "Wolves 0-0 highlights" before you signed.

Reminds me of the story that Darren Ferguson once interested Lazio. I think it was Lazio. Anyway, they flew him over to Rome and when they met him at the airport, they said - in halting English - "We thought you were taller, Barry". Apocryphal, no doubt (partly because they are the same height) but funny anyway. Maybe Neves though he was signing for Wolfsburg.

I think I'm starting to realise why everyone was getting pissed off with Bristol City fans taking over threads
We can take this one over if you want Mark? We haven't signed anyone but can waffle about any old shite if needed. We had a ten pager on our official forum which started off talking about Dicko possibly signing and descended into pages of discussion about the difference between trainers and daps! :2thumb:
Gotta love the summer!

I seem to recall being told (this was before my time) a non-league but localish team that was aiming for promotion to the football league who signed 2 or 3 former first division (old money) players for their midfield.
These players kept giving possession away cheaply because none of the other players had the quality to anticipate these passes/spot the space/make the runs.
I'm sure this signing will be a good player for Wolves, but the players around can be just as important.

The other bloke (loanee, signed in Jan) is quality and Wolves don't have a totally crap squad so their shouldn't be the issue like the one in the story above.

Whilst I am still undecided on how I feel about this latest signing, Wolves have now signed 3 cbs, a lb and a rb. Add in to that Graham and Zyro returning who both looked decent to very good in the prior season before injury and we have already got a vastly superior side.

Difference is a our manager has already worked with Neves too so should know what he is getting into.

Rumoured to have had an £8m bid accepted for Norwich striker Nelson Oliveira.

That would smash our transfer record by quite a distance, around 3 times more than we paid for Ilori in Jan

The league has gone mad.

Apparently in for both Lawrence and Jota.

Both would be superb additions, cost an arm and a leg though.

Both Brentford and Jota have said he won't join a Championship side, he'd rather stay if he can't go to the PL

Which is fair enough but we all know money normally talks, whatever the player, unfortunately. Would be nice to see a bit of loyalty in the game again so no issues if he stays put.

The Wednesday
Max Gradel linked per some "agent" on twitter.

Rumours we are preparing to counter Derby's bids for Lawrence and Jota, they want Forestieri still and have been laughed at.

£8million for Nelson Oliveira? Hahahahahaha what the actual fuck
Even funnier baring in mind they have Kermorgant for another season. May as well buy a young back-up player or wait until January (or even the summer) to buy a first-team striker.

Or do they play usually play with 2 strikers? Always thought it was just the one.

Now some fairly reliable Norwich sources are saying that the £8m was rejected.

Sadly this is the going rate for decent Championship strikers now - and we probably need two of them :/

Looks like we will be playing how we ended last season, with a 3-5-2 formation. We were playing Kermorgant and Grabban.

We only have two senior strikers in our entire squad. A 35 year old Kermorgant who is retiring next Summer, and an unproven Mendes whose contract expires next Summer. We are certainly in the market for strikers, first team ones ideally too.

It leads to the question, how on earth do Preston and Barnsley manage to prosper on a budget (fair play to both) and how do Burton survive? There are obviously ways of doing things differently but the money currently being spent in this division is obscene and surely cannot be sustainable?
Would you go back for Grabban maybe?

Sounds like the Lawrence deal is quite far advanced, hopefully get it wrapped ASAP.

I do hope it's a reasonable fee and not the astronomical one I'm expecting. (If he does sign).

Fake news, you could get much better value for £8m than signing Oliviera.

Set to sign Lewis Baker and Karl Darlow apparently.
Quality pair of signing if true.

We only have money to spend as we have new Chinese owners, and have spent the last couple of years cutting costs due to losing Parachute payments. Even then it seems we will only make 1 or 2 decent signings.

Grabban was ok but would cost just as much as Oliveira without anywhere near as good record, and much older.

We have a young midfield and defence but nothing upfront and in goal. So I think we will make two 3m+ signings in those positions

Grabban would be available for much, much less than this Oliveira. Grabban hasn't even traveled with with our squad to their pre season camp thing, when several youth have gone instead. Perhaps leaving Grabban here to find a club.

Loads of people linking Wolves with Afobe, although he has travelled hasn't he? Not seen anything concrete about it though just twitter reporters linking to vague articles.
