Amazes me how highliy Bristol City fans value Flint.

He's a bottom half defender in this league who seems to cost them goals every week. Daylight robbery if they get £5m for him.

Nathan Baker is a massive upgrade, Ripley looks a good keeper too.
For me, it's not about just the player SF, I totally agree there are far better around. I / we will really miss his drive. On our forum, he's getting slagged off as usual but some are calling him the 'heartbeat' of the side. I agree with that and we will miss that aspect.
Good luck to the bloke TBH and he'll get a great ovation back at the Gate.
There aren't many of the L1 winning side left at our place now, just 4 off the top of my head ( Frankie, Pack, Smith and Bryan). I don't count Wilbs as I can't see him playing very often.

Wednesday were the club Baker was set to sign for, fucking hell

Glad we're not afraid of handing out big wages still after how Tomlin and O'Neil went, for all the decent youth players that aren't on much you need a blend of experience and Baker brings that and he's still at an age where he'll improve.
Where are you reading that we've signed Baker son?

I'm well versed in the M6, it's why I'm leaving in half an hour and not later.
I use it twice a week going to Manchester for meetings. It can take 3 hours but can equally take 5 or 6 as you well know. Those roadworks go on forever!
Have a safe trip mate.

We've only got Dean & Yennaris from our promotion side now (and even then Yennaris wasn't playing at all), everyone else has moved on.

In the squad or who start? Wolves have Ikeme, Batth, Doherty, Price, Evans, Edwards, Dicko, who were all in or around the side/match day squad last year. Which shows how desperate for an overhaul we were this summer.

Possibly others I have forgot too.

We've still got a few; Clarke, Woods, Huntington, Welsh, Johnson, Gallagher, Browne, Robinson (was on loan) & Hugill off the top of my head.

Although Hugill was on loan at Hartlepool and Tranmere towards the end of our promotion season. Ben Davies was also here but would have been out on loan somewhere.

6 of them started the play-off final, with 2 on the bench.

Didn't you sign our left back during our mutual promotion season? Irish fella.

Suspended for the first league game by all accounts but get him in.
I guess, with Baker being left footed, that will release Bailey to play on the right side of the 2 centre halves which is his natural position IIRC?

Signed him that summer after we were promoted.

I think it is.

If the Flint/Ripley deal is true, and we get Baker then we are a lot more solid.

We'd lose Flints aerial prowess, but I'm told Ripley is dominant in the penalty area which would counteract that to a degree.

Baker's no shrinking violet with the aerial stuff though and he's a big lad so if all this is correct, we should be ok on that score and may well see the best of Bailey too. Fair play to him for not looking a total camel playing on the wrong side IMHO.

There is a reason owners don't give Mick McCarthy decent money to spend. The first, and only time we did he spent it on Roger Johnson and Jamie O'Hara. Last anyone saw of those two was Charlton's Reserves or the Big Brother house.

Well then, Baker confirmed.
At this moment, Flint probably the better player.
Baker has the potential to surpass him by a fair bit though.

That's a debate and a half! Without Flint there, Baker may well become a far better player. I think his skills with the ball at his feet are better now but can he become the colossus in the air that Flinty has become? He's got all the attributes.

Well that f*ckin sucks! Was one of our best players last season IMO. Was only expecting him to go out on loan and come back in when Terry had left next season.

Good luck to him though, Very underrated defender.

Is he still prone to 'hot head' moments and lots of injuries? I saw he played 38 games last season so it would suggest he's over those issues?
He was good here when he was on loan so we're happy with this even though it probably means Flint's off but NB will get game time here, if he stays fit and he probably wouldn't have got that at your place, certainly not this season anyway.

Yeah he still loves flying into a tackle but his timing seemed much better last season. Think he had one injury last season but was only out a few weeks.

Your right, if he had stayed he was behind Terry, Chester and possibly even Samba (who's had a decent pre-season) so it is the right move for his career, wish him all the best at your lot.

Pissed at the sale of Baker. Was just coming good, and now leaves us with Richards and Elphick as backup if we do go to the much rumoured 3 at the back that Bruce wants to play. Ridiculous decision to sell one of our better players of last season, Samba and Terry aren't going to play every game, it also leaves us without a left-footed CB. Not to mention that when Terry and Samba leave at the end of the season it leaves us needing a new defence all over again. Not been this pissed off at a sale for a while. I wish him luck nevertheless, I'm pissed at Bruce in all honesty.

You just know you're gonna sign Bruce Jnr don't you, if he's still playing?
With all respect, it sounds like your loss is our gain for a change.
