Have a Icelandic international more then capable of filling the role
He really would not work as a LB for us.
We play with the full backs overlapping and pushing forward.
Iceland play the complete opposite, with a rigid and structured back four. Providing they had at least a little pace and awareness they could play with 4 CBs filling the roles.

Go 3 at the back and use 1 of the 4 lw players the club has assembled then.

I just don't see how Bryan is the be all and end all of the role

We won't go to 3 at the back often, maybe occasionally away from home. But its clear the style of play Johnson wants to get us playing and Bryan is a big part of that. Not saying we won't eventually look to replace him but don't see it being this summer now the season has begun.

Sounds like a matter of time for Flint & Bryan. I wouldn't be surprised if £8.5m gets through tbh.

As said before bidding for Flint would start at £5m, we value Bryan a lot more than £3.5m.

Won't be both players, Bryan highly valued, don't want to sell to a Championship club.

For that sort of money you'd think Brum could do a bit better? Don't get me wrong I'd be dissapointed to see Bryan go ( I wouldn't have been at the end of last season, average at best, wasn't even that good) as it's late in the window and if Saturday is anything to go by he's learning. Had a good game and has the attributes to be a cracking player.

Flint can do one, not fussed in the slightest with the options we have now.

Eliasson all but done.
Left out of Norrkopings squad for tonight, they say he is "on the verge of signing for another club".
The 2 clubs linked with him have been us and Lyon, the latter being paper talk, nothing about them wanting him in French media.

From their manager
"It has been quite close for quite a while and now we are basically just formalities from agreeing to another club so we can probably figure him out for the moment,"

Know nothing about him bar snippets and clips but I'm quite excited by this ( possible ) signing.

Same, seems a good prospect- among the best players in the Allsvenskan this season is about as much as I know.
Fee is meant to be around £2m, probably will be a sell on involved.

Not fussed about Bacuna, not sure what's the point in spending £1m+ in backups. Kind of the same problem with Modou Barrow too. Though I guess we actually have some money to spend now, so it shouldn't be so strange.

Not sure I would class Barrow as a backup option. Beerens and McCleary are both very injury prone and Popa and Harriott look bang average quite frankly.

For Flint yeah, doesn't look like Bryan's off.

I honestly wouldn't be arsed if we lost either now, Flint's replacement is an upgrade and Bryan isn't that good anyway.

Hopefully Birmingham panic after Saturday and chuck money at Flint, will just come down to the highest bidder.

Bryan was superb Saturday, you never know this could be the season where he starts being consistently good. He's only 23 after all, he's probably just hitting his prime.

Harry has confirmed that a second bid has gone in for Flint. Sounds like we have cooled on Joe Bryan and the bid for Flint is a 'take it or leave it' offer. Would rather that we hold on to Shotton and sign Ashley Cole than waste time persuing Bristol City players.

Do you think Kuszczak will leave now you have Stockdale? He's too good to be a number 2 in this league, and the reason he left us.

Think it would depend on if he got a better offer elsewhere, he signed a new contract just before we got Stockdale. I would have been happy to have kept Kuszczak as first choice this year. A good option to have if Stockdale gets injured/suspended.

Nixon saying we are ahead of Birmingham in trying to get Vassell, he also hinted we're due to be getting money from Birmingham soon.
Sounds like they might have made a bid worth considering for Flint

Sounds like he was hinting Brum would cool their interest on Vassell should we accept their double bid.

I think El Guapo was right about interest in Bryan cooling off.
Redknapp only mentioned Flint when questioned earlier (as far as I could see). And from recent comments (only selling Bryan to a prem side) I think the offer would have to be the best part of £20 plus a sell on for Bryan in a combined bid. Which, I think we would all agree, is more than the 2 are worth at this point.

Astounded at the fees being banded around here, and the fees some teams are willing to pay. No need to spend that much on relatively shit players, much better value out there, and not that hard to find!

I think the thing is- certainly RE Flint & particularly Bryan, the fees are so high to ward off bidders.
Flint will be £5m plus. In Mark Ashton we have an astute negotiator, we have no need to sell as he has 3 years on his contract.
With Bryan there is, I think, a year less on his contract. But we have only Golbourne (little to no presence in pre-season) and a teenager as cover. It is a position we need to keep hold of, so price driven up there. He is a fan of the club (for the little that means in modern football) and we have said we will only sell him to a Prem club. After doing this with Kodjia, we only sold him after what was very much widely regarded as an over the top bid came in, stands to reason if we let Bryan go to a Championship club it will be the same circumstances. Or he will go to a Prem side, which in itself brings an inflated fee.

Don't get me wrong, I do think the "best part of £20m" I said in my above post is far more than what the players are worth- but I think that is what it would take at this moment for us to accept.
